Here is the link to the "worktape" thread on this song: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1036929/page/1#Post1036929Folks, Here is my latest song in final demo form.....performed by Greg Shields. I did slightly speed it up, and I also did a few lyrical changes (posted below)...I hope you all enjoy this one. https://soundcloud.com/fredchoatemusic/some-things-daddy-cant-fixSome Things (Daddy Can’t Fix) Fred Choate 2014 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED VERSE 1: A two wheeler’s kickstand A broken wood plane with a rubber band I can make it right when he brings ‘em to me A little glue, the turn of a wrench Guarantees a smile that’s a sure bet But what about his needs not easy to see CHORUS: Like his aching heart down deep inside The sadness found in those dark brown eyes His dreams …they ain’t made of wood or brick The hardest truth when its realized That mommy’s gone and the reasons why I guess theres some things even Daddy can’t fix VERSE 2: I tell him “Son, it’s OK” Other than that I’m not sure what to say She was always there to wipe away his tears I always thought that she’d pull through But the doctors said they did all they could do And I ain’t sure I can take away his fears CHORUS: Like his aching heart down deep inside The sadness found in those dark brown eyes His dreams …they ain’t made of wood or brick The hardest truth when its realized That mommy’s gone and the reasons why I guess theres some things even Daddy can’t fix BRIDGE: I can work magic with my hands But how can I help him understand CHORUS/TAG: That aching heart down deep inside The sadness found in those dark brown eyes His dreams …they ain’t made of wood or brick The hardest truth when its realized That mommy’s gone and the reasons why I guess there’s some things even Daddy can’t fix Now I know there’s some things even Daddy

Fine demo, Fred. Greg does terrific productions and is a great writer in his own right. Good luck with it

Fred,
Is that a coincidence or what-- that I checked out your original version and commented just before you brought in the final version on board? LOL.
Hey, this slightly faster tempo works better for me, as I just thought it was slightly dragging--this is perfect! I didn't even mind the wood and brick in this order with the slightly different delivery. The prosody areas have also now been addressed--great job! I immensely enjoyed this song with the production/performance. The piano works with this tempo better as well, but I still think an acoustic guitar version would be interesting to here for comparison.
Super job Fred!

I thought that too Eddie, about the coincidence Anyway, thanks for the listen and the comment. I think it turned out pretty good, and it is always fun to see how a song progresses. Production wise, I could here several things with this tune, but demo wise, I think the piano played as nicely as Greg did for this works wonderful. We'll send 'er out into the world and see what happens

Wonderful lyrics. And I really like the vocal, too. So, THIS is what a "pro" demo is supposed to sound like? Looks like I'll never have one. Nice work, Fred.

Fred,
A beautiful song start to finish. Solid writing. Like Lisa said.."touching and poignant..." And a melody that keeps you listening.
The demo shows it off perfectly.
