A nice, sad little g/v. Todd on vocal and guitar. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=12160293&q=hiHEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE (verse) Jack's son-in-law got transferred to Nevada So Jack ain't seen his daughter or her kids They swore they would come and visit him at Christmas But something came up and they never did His house has been so empty since Margaret passed on If he could have gone on with her, he'd be already gone (chorus) When he was young, he was afraid of dying So his mama told him of a better place, by and by Sometimes it feels like hell here growing old and alone But he knows it's heaven when you die (verse) Bless his heart, his poor old eyesight started failing And they told him that he couldn't drive no more He used to be so proud and independent Now he has to ask for help to do his chores He gets so angry sometimes when his memory don't work And he hardly does a thing that the arthritis doesn't hurt (repeat chorus) (bridge) His faith has never wavered He's just waiting for the day When that chariot will swoop down And carry him away (chorus) When he was young, he was afraid of dying So his mama told him of a better place, by and by Sometimes it feels like hell here growing old and alone But he knows it's heaven when you die But he knows it's heaven tonight Bill Osofsky, BMI , Todd Caudill, copyright

Hi Bill Wow, I'm with Calvin, this song is really good. Love the story you've told, and you sing it so amazingly, I'm impressed. Love the chorus, yep it's stayed in my mind, so that's a good thing, well done hey. No nits from me. Edit, I just listened again, and at the end when you sing, He knows it's heaven tonight, I went ohhhhh. Hugs Michele

Bill,
Songwriting at its best. Another that ought to be heard by the world. The g/v is all it needs - always an indication of excellence..

Really great story telling here, Bill. You really captured the reality of growing old and alone in this case.

That's a fine piece of writing....and Stevie put it so well about the reality of growing old. And a very effective production to showcase the lyric.

Nice one Bill and friends.
If I were to nitpick some words they would be "independent"
Sounds like a brochure for a retirement home more than a tear jerking ballad, rhyming kid and did, kinda contrived inho.
But the bulk of it is good, effectively makes the point.
Good Work!

Sweet country tear-jerker. Those ballads south of the Mason-Dixon Line don't get better than that.
Well done all around.

Hi Bill,
This is a very tender tear-jerker, and I love the cool way it kept playing with my emotions. He kept sort of wanting to die, and I kept thinking "awww...sad..." but then it kept being followed up with "it's heaven when you die" which would lift my spirits, but then not, because I'd think, "well, he's dying..." And 'round and 'round my emotions went! I liked that!

Lisa Hey, Lisa. Yeah, death is a tricky subject. Some see it as the end, some as a new beginning Bill
