Yes, that's in line with Spotify and others. I guess those customized internet stations could actually be playing the song for only one person.

They're doing it because they can!
Just like organized crime, gangs, steroid use, employee drug tests, one fix just leads to a new outlet. They adapt and a new way to cheat is invented.
I read where Lady Gaga got like 190 dollars for a million streams.
All it really does is hurt itunes and legitimate sales.
If every artist got their music off of it, then they would have no business, so, it leads me to believe that SOME artists are making substantial money from it, they wouldnt stand for 190 dollars for a million streams.
But for an Indie, even if they rocketed it up to .25 per play, it still wouldn't bring in significant money.
It had to have hurt itunes, who the hell would ever buy a song again under these circumstances?
What little money there is in music is still playing live. Guess it's always been that way. Maybe licensing could pay something.
Much easier to play at a pub for 200 bucks, then to try and sell 200 downloads, or get hmmm, 2 millions streams?

I don't do Spotify or Pandora. I have used Facebook extensively to promote my music. I get a monthly check from CDBaby for the sales of my downloads and streams from my songs on iTunes. I think it IS possible to make money from music! I have sold downloads in iTunes all over the world. Write on! Emily

It almost seems that everybody is a songwriter and wants to make money from his or her songs. Everybody writes and records. Nobody listens to or buys anything from anybody else. Competition is overwhelming. It is a stalemate.
