song a week #34...of 52. let the drinking begin. https://soundcloud.com/mac-charles/stupor-man <stupor man> make his problems tiny, make the world soft and shiny, yeah, that's easy- he could've saved the day, if not for timing, he got tangled in his cape- wouldn't it be lovely, wouldn't it be grand, wouldn't it be lovely, if nothing's broken when he lands- he's always fine until, the floor comes up, and hits him in the light switch- warm and fuzzy, lovey dovey, life is sunny there behind those shades- wouldn't it be lovely, wouldn't it be grand, if he didn't spill my wine when he's flying like stupor man- don't try that at home, when you're alone, cause he can tell you're not an hero- leave it to an ameteur, to do it when there's no one else around- wouldn't it be lovely, wouldn't it be grand, if he didn't spill my wine when he's flying like stupor man- stupor man, has no plan, to leave his chair- stupor man, has no plans,.....and doesn't care- (solo) he's always fine until, the floor comes up, and hits him in the light switch- warm and fuzzy, lovey dovey, life is sunny there behind those shades- wouldn't it be lovely, wouldn't it be grand, if he didn't spill my wine when he's flying like stupor man-

stan,
I hear the steely dan comparison a lot.....I don't hear it, but they have been a musical staple of mine forever. I wonder sometimes, is it the grooves and chord changes?....don't know.
thank you for the review, sir.

Hey Mac,
Yeah, that's got a cool groove. Can't actually believe you're DOING IT and keep on going mate, you're doing good stuff and putting the rest of us to shame.
The song itself ? Loved it up until the middle 8. I think that it just went somewhere it didn't need to go. Kind of like a Beatles mid 8 got spliced into a blues tune.
It's a nice clean sound ( are you using BIAB? ) and good for concepts, and I think if this song was replaced by real players, and given some arrangement, I could happily sit in any dingy smokey bar anywhere, and let the world drift by. ( apart from the bridge )
cheers, niteshift

Michael,
thank you for the kudos.
Nite,
BIAB?....I take it, after googling...that it's a backing track software?.....ha ha......no, it's real.....it's all me, right down to "playing" the drums by hand on a keyboard. regarding the middle eight, I had something totally different at first pass and din't like it....so I changed it at the last minute.....oh well.
thanks for the review.

Nice groove! Reminded me of The Beatles' "Taxman" there for a second.

Mac,
Another winner imo. The only thing I thought might be cool is a little tremelo in the electric guitar in spots.
Really like your upbeat musical grooves.

Mac,
Wonderful tune! I was really getting into the song and enjoying it--great performance, arrangement, and production.
My only nit, I agree parcially with Niteshift, about your "bridge?" -- Stupor Man, before the solo, (if indeed that is what Niteshift was referring to) If not, well my thought there is you have such a clean crisp sound going with the song, but it gets a little "muddy" on those lines at that point for me. I'm thinking it just needs some adjustment with your effects--volume/eq/compression etc. Since it does reflect your song title, it is a crucial part of your song especially with the music digression--I like the idea of harmony, but I would experiment there a bit, maybe pull it back in the mix to reflect more like a bridge, rather than jump out at you like a chorus "hook." JMO--for what it is worth.
Very cool indeed, I also wouldn't mind hearing a few center hits on the cymbal crown for some accents here and there--would be easy to insert on a separate track.
Great write man! I really like this a lot Mac--a couple of ideas for you from me to "use or lose."
steady-eddie.

Eddie,
there is a little delay over the bridge vocals, I added them as an after thought....originally I was going to start the solo there, but being pressed for time, I left it and moved on.....all good points.
thanks for the review.
