Any worries that this latest threat by the North Korean government could turn into a full scale war?

Absolutely. The Korean War is unfinished business, only ending in an armistice and no peace treaty or cessation of hostile diplomacy.

Add to this that the "Dear Leader" is only 29, with lots to prove, and lots that he does not know, and lots that he can't foresee, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Now, he could be sly as a fox, pushing the world to the brink in order to gain concessions...

Maybe John, but he wont get any from the UK or North America I would think.
The time that we start pandering to this regime we would have lost all our own credibility.

Have you ssen a night satalite picture of the Korea's. North Korea is practically devoid of anything but darkness while South Korea is awash with lights.

I am reminded of Hitler where his own people tried to kill him. Not sure the General's of North Korea wants to attack the South. I imagine they are pretty much a paper tiger.

Nah, Kim Jong-un is nuts with little grasp of reality. Dangerous mind... hmm.. good title for a contemporary classical piano piece. I'll use it!

An omnipotent dictator who continues to arm his country with nuclear weapons while a large percentage of his country starve.
If he has no concern for his fellow citizens he'll care less about the inhabitants of his neighbouring country

That's what happens in a dictatorship. The leadership gets passed on to a relative. He's a spoiled brat with lot's of power. That's why the President of the US must be at least 35 years old. He's endangering his own people. A country with only a military and no infrastructure will not survive. He should be taken more seriously. A threat is a threat.

Hey Travis....This could be Brutal. If they sent artillar towards Seol hundreds of thousands could be killed. They can reach the city and they have hundreds of thousands of Artillary Guns. We'd have to bring back the draft. THEN....Iran and all the Muslim Loonies will attack all over Europe. Wall Street Tanks and The Farmer and Hunter are king in this country.

HiDee Bwo!

I read the other day where US is holding Regularly-Scheduled Military Exercizes w/S. Koreans, and we've sent over 2 of our Stealthiest Bombers to join the Exercizes ($3 Billion Each)...both quite-capable of zoomin'-in, droppin' a few Smart A-Bombs, and headin' back for More...

Got my doubts the N. HAS more'n One Major City there to bother takin'-out. &..it's doubtful they YET have a long-enough range ICBM to reach the US.

Yep..they could inflict some Nearby Damage to S.Korea...BUT...

I'm actually more afraid of what's gonna happen in Iran. The Israelis aren't gonna WAIT to take out Iran's "Nuclear Capability" just to please the US... &..there's only 6 months to a Year before S--t Happens. N.Korea's been rattlin'-sabers for Ages...think this is just More Rattlin', to see How We React.

But the Threat in Iran's got a mighty Short Fuse. Luckily, Iran, too, has no ICBM..Yet..that'll reach the US.

Europe..however...I think IS reachable now...with what Iran's developed...Gulp!!!

So..say a Prayer..& pass the Ammunition, I guess!

Best Wishes & Big Guy-Hugs to the Whole Planet,
Stan

Yeah Stan....They might be in cahoots together.
IF we are bogged down in Korea with raw recruits just drafted.....Tired of war and broke.....All hell will break lose in Europe. The crazies will go nuts and attack all Christians etc. Israel will freak out and probably start using Nukes if they feel threatened at all NEVER AGAIN and all that. Israel has about 100 Nukes on Subs and that could be Armageddon.

Sounds Crazy??
WW1 started on some flimsy mistake.
Vietnam started on a fraud....Gulf of Tonkin.
And Then the Cyber nuts will go hog wild and bring down our Banking and Electric grid.
Whoopie....Let's all go and have a party.
I'm buying some vegetable seeds tomorrow and taking out my $50 that I have in my savings account....all I have left and will buy a fishing rod.....
That's about it Stan...HAPPY EASTER...lol

Barry, I'd betcha the US has a lotta Very Large Predator-Type aircraft that'd save us a LOT of Groundpounders should we be getting sucked into War with Korea.

I know for a FACT that Gen McArthur HAD 4 planes loaded-up with Nukes ready to bomb that 38th Parallel, & Truman chickened-out and had him recalled. THAT Bombing WOULD'VE ended the war, then and there, the Russians would've been scared to death of us/No Cold War, and the Nam War would've never happened.

But..it takes BALLS. &, as-usual, we take these kicks in the gonads at the UN & sit back, allowing these petty tyrants to give us a Tweak...until they're REALLY Brave about it.

It frankly wouldn't bother me a Wee Bit if we just went and melted-down EITHER of these troublemaking Terrains some weekend soon. Then, the other one, ya give 'em 24 hours to surrender...or...

& Voila...World Peace, after all the suffering's History. Japan seems to have Recovered, & certainly behaves very Well these days. Sad..Yet Very True.

OK..I'm a Warmonger..for Peace..I Guess!

Happy Easter!

Think I go along with those views Stan, if it takes drastic steps to bring this country to it's senses so be it.
Perhaps the worry here is though, which way will China and Russia jump

Holy smoke! Start tossing nukes around for peace and let the devil take the hindmost? Umm, I hope our leaders are smarter and not quite as immoral as that. The little fat fellow in the Mao jacket may be crazy, but that idea is nuts.

Kim Jong may not be as nuts as you think. I'd guess his plan is to push us JUST as far as he can without us hitting him and that's probably quite a ways, Then when it all simmers back down he'll be a big hero at home, to wit "I" backed down the great USA , they're AFRAID of me. they're just a paper tiger. I am A GREAT MAN!!
The danger, as someone said is if there's a mistake--a missle goes off course and actually HITS something or we don't push quite as far as he thought, then the fats iun the fire!!

The US has tried "Appeasement" pre-war many a time.

It's not Brilliant to develop all the Armament we've invested-in and let ourselves be pushed-around by these Idiots who truly DO threaten the World's Peace.

It's kinda criminal that we're gonna let Israel sustain MOST of the casualties in the forthcoming Iran Conflagration. But obviously we are. And again, we end up looking like Weaklings and Cowards.

Some military people who have spent a lot of time in SK have said the US is really there to keep SK from invading NK. SK would love it. They'd have a reason to kick NK's butt.

Before pushing the panic or nuclear button, let's remember this is just the latest staging of a long-running play. The North Koreans have been making bellicose threats and lobbing the occasional shell across the border for 60 years. In 2010 they sank a South Korean Navy ship, killing over 100 sailors. There have been 26 military attacks and 221 incidents involving the North Koreans since the Korean war ended in a stalemate. Despite these provocations, the truce has held for 60 years.

Let's not be in such an all-fired hurry to start another war. The last one we rushed into didn't turn out all that well. They usually don't.

If it was not so serious it would be funny. They released one photo of a beach landing ----- with phoney landing craft photoshopped in. Certainly they could do a lot of damage with so many troops but they would get wiped out in fairly short order. The US and SK are quite prepared.

According to the articles I have read, the US Govt does not think they are serious.

Me Thinks the young lad is ranting and raving just to prove he is the leader. According to a news report just recently, it is the North Koreans that come accross the border and work in an industrial Complex in the south. The military zone on the border was to keep the north koreans from invading the south. North Korea is becoming more and more isolated as China is becoming more modern. Even Cuba is beginning to get the picture. But some people never learn. Don't think we are going to lob any nukes anytime soon Dan. We are going to be just like Harry. We aren't going to give you hell, we are just going to tell the truth. You will think it's hell. The Libs in Washington are trying to prove a point. The north koreans are trying to prove a point. Exchange one for the other and you can't tell the difference. Geronimo !

War for peace and US intervention has not generally worked out too well although there are exceptions. I hate to see one little man stirring up so much stuff. I don't know how the Hitlers of the World can pull the wool over people's eyes in these days of the internet.

I dare say that that the US can take out an ICBM before it gets anywhere important.

I once visited a Russian factory in a town in Siberia where Soviet military aircraft were produced. I no longer felt threatened by the Russians after that.

I don't understand why the US gets involved in all these squabbles that are really none of our business. Of course, when they have oil and minerals we want.......

"Business", Colin,,,,you hit one of the reasons on the head!

And, men being men: Men NEED to fight, control, and kill. That's why all govs and religions made it legal, (or just OK), to kill under any war title. So, they DO all of that, and as often as they can.

Business, Ego, Power and Primal Reasons; are all rolled up into one.

Men=Killing, and threats of it. Same as always. They will FIND reasons and ways of NOT having peace. Peace does no good for the primal brain still in men today. It's the quiet before the storm. If too quiet, there must be somebody sneaking up. So, men will keep it all going, to feel they are doing something.

And with the popular saying I always heard, of, "God made man in HIS image"? I hardly think so. Seems the other way around, as men will use the name and purpose of God to validate more and more wars and killings. If God is behind a religion or country, killing must be a good thing and even "needed". YIKES!

Man made God in man's image though. Combine the two sayings, no matter which one is right, and WAR is what will always be on the table.

Keep in mind too, that the US has it's secret operatives all over the world, for offensive, as well as defensive reasons. Run by MEN,,,so, what should anyone expect other than eventual wars all over the place? From any country except where women rule love in the households, like Belgium! Those men are HAPPY enough to not want to leave the house much! smile Sweden too!

Leave men to their ways, and watch out! They love to control others and kill the ones in their way.

Normal activity, I would say, (Korea and much else).

North Korea is a joke. The kid running it is a puppet figurehead too stupid to even understand the military has always run things. They know they'd be crushed quickly by both the US and China. If they are dumb enough to shoot at something for real they'll not like what happens next. But there will be no war nor anything like war. At most a quick and harsh spanking would be administered by the US and China.

The question is would China support him or sit on the fence if this idiot was to kick off?
I feel the latter as they've too much too lose with their much needed world market for the goods they produce.
China could even keep NK in check

War is coming,it is only a matter of time and place. The whole middle East area is a tinder box waiting for the match.Iran could be that match, the spark that sets it ablaze.

China would not support NK ---- they are embarassed by their association and have been quite obviously silent - no support for the NK moron.

I imagine China is a bit nervous about all the North Korean refugees fleeing into China if war breaks out. Though the fortunate ones that make the transition into China would have their standard of living raised several notches. Imagine that; living in China being an upgrade in the standard of living. I reckon us Americans are just a spoiled bunch of complainers. grin

Talk about the difficulties of becoming a successful songwriter in the USA. Imagine your chances if you were born in North Korea.

Neither does China want N K to "Go to pieces" though and have thousands, even hundreds of thousands of North Koreans pouring across the border into China if the South wouldn't let them in
N K is near starvation now, except for the government and the military. I expect China is really in a pickle about HOW to handle the situation.

We live in a world where unfortunately there are those governments that will push the envelope with the hope of gaining their control or ideology that could result in horrific consequences for us all. We have to at least harness those "threats," as the USA is the leverage needed to tip the scales for world stability. I wish we weren't in that position, but I'm also relieved that when push comes to shove, that we can "stand up" and thwart these misguided dictators. We may sometimes stick our noses where they shouldn't be, but with the world threat of terrorism, I'd rather error on that side, than ignorance--you think Pearl Harbor was bad? Teddy Roosevelt's slogan still applies to our today's modern world, "Speak softly, but carry a big stick......" Don't misunderstand me, I hate war--that's why we (and our world allies) have to be resolute with these countries like NK.

Both We..& the Russians..have Laser Arms that, in an instant, can Blind ALL the oncoming Soldiery..probably Permanently. Also some Sound Gadgetry..that's already been used against the Ship Pirates successfully.

&..I think we've still got lots of Napalm sitting in Warehouses, awaiting the next war.

Hopefully it's a Short One.

& We Win.

There are no winners in war. A price is always paid by both sides. Tempers boil to the core, at the cost of someone's pride....When blood reaches foreign shores, that's when you know, innocent hearts have died. No, there are no winners in war. A price is always paid by both sides.

I wonder when the world will wake up and realize it's not real cool to hurt one another.

I think you summed most feelings up Calvin, but we're not dealing with someone logical here and I think that's the worry.
PS what we need is a distraction from all these threats of violence in the form of that duck song lol

I think China's pulling the puppet's strings. This is a "Reagan." Reagan broke the back of the Soviet Union by making them spend money they didn't have to keep up with us militarily so we crashed their economy. China sees that we're in trouble, and besides, we owe a bunch to them. If our economy crashes China will own us. So, if we start spending like crazy without taking care of our domestic economy, wham, we've been "Reagan-ed."

I don't see the US as building the military as the USSR did. The Pentagon is there for a reason. We're already built. I'm more worried about the US dismantling the military as it is, while not paying enough attention to N. Korea, Syria, and Iran.

That's a Fascinatin' Theory Mike!!! (Hope You're Wrong..but Yep, it DOES make a lotta sense!)

The US is also gonna have a shortage of Taxpayers as alla us Boomers die-off over the next 20-or-so years.

Hope that's been factored-in in the Future Budgeting...but sure hasn't slowed-down alla the Promises-Made....

The sabre rattling is more for the benefit of the N Korea population. New kid on the block showing his strength so the oppressed population will stay suppresed. The powers that control the country know exactly where they stand. China has sent them the message that they are an embarassment and this childish behavious will not be tolerated. It has been going on since the Korea war ended.

I think we have more to fear from the Middle East.

Yep, Jim, that's the way I've got it figured it's posturing for the home folks and ego bolstering---unless he goes too far or somebody gets trigger happy , it'll all blow over
