Well Marc,
A Publisher I used to work with, who may get back in the business, according to what he told me is, you have to put the right song in front of the right person at the right time. Not always easy. Now why would someone who has a song signed have to play it for a whole bunch of people to see if it is worthy of a cut. If he/they don't see the potental of a song right off, he should pass on it right away.

Of course after you listen to dozens and dozens of songs you probably get pretty confused.
