Dom, that's actually an interesting philosophical argument. I'd be curious to hear how others here see it as well.

Personally, I wouldn't describe myself as a performer. I've always been more of a studio guy. That's the role I've enjoyed most throughout my musical life.

For example, the original Suno version of "The Language Of Your Eyes" was over six minutes long. I created multiple covers, edited and shortened stems, combined parts from different takes, and shaped the final arrangement. On some songs I even add my own recordings, although I didn't do that on this one.

So while AI is part of my workflow, I still see myself primarily as someone who writes, produces, edits, mixes, and molds recordings into a finished track. That's much closer to a studio producer's mindset than a performer's, at least in my view.

In listening to a recording, the perfomer is whats playing. Gary mentioned how good your voice was, on your song, he obviously doesnt have a clue as to how it sounds good, he probably doesnt use suno or tried using his own voice through it.

It will make you sound good, but to him, your voice is good.

thats what im talking about. The recording is one thing, live performance is another. Even before AI, the recording false represented artists. Auto tune made singers sound like they had perfect pitch, all the fine production techniques creates an illusion, that this recording is real. same for guitar playing...you can record the same part a hundred times till it sounds perfect, then the listener thinks its perfect.

i guess it doesnt matter, you either like it or you dont.

I would say with AI, you are the Artist, but its a sub genre of actual music.

Its music curating, and music decision making, which can be an art in itself, but it's also not artistry in the traditional sense.

its a new art form.some people using ai may be better than a real organic singer or musician using AI.

but disclosure is important. One day you could be asked to perform live...
