I live in the Chicago area which of course it's a larger market. That may help but especially with the internet anybody can write and get noticed from anywhere. You can start by posting on music sites such as SoundClick, SoundCloud and Number One Music, especially if you have had anything demoed to music. Doesn't have to be with your own voice. I have 18 demos now up on SoundClick, none with my own voice as I can't really sing. My dream is to get something cut by someone, doesn't necessarily have to be a big-name act.
