Thanx Floyd for such a pretty song! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13126899https://soundcloud.com/mojo-mike/dug-up-a-diamondDug Up A Diamond I dug up a diamond In her drawer tucked away Guess she thought i'd never find it Does it matter any way A pretty diamond It must of meant a lot For her to keep it hidden In such a secret spot Does she take it out when i'm not around And slip it on her finger Did it fade with time or keep its shine Do her feelings still linger I dug up a diamond I wish i'd never seen Got me thinking she's been lying But i won't intervene A beautiful diamond I bet it took her breath away No denying It sure took mine today Does she take it out when i'm not around And slip it on her finger Did it fade with time or keep its shine Do her feelings still linger I dug up a diamond In her drawer tucked away

Floyd and Michael,
Floyd, you kept the setting intimate, and it's a great choice. It draws me in--into the story and vocal performance which are both rather poignant.
Michael, just beautiful, man. Having the singer be so humble and stoic in the face of his wife's possible "secret life," with lines like "Got me thinking she's been lying/But i won't intervene" --just ups this a notch into that "classy" echelon it seems few find any more.
BTW, congrats, Michael on passing 10,000!
Mike

Beautiful song fellows!
Powerful story. This song's sentiment brings back to mind David Gate's song "Diary," from years ago, but told much differently. I agree, this could be a hit IMO. Nice music/lyrics/production/performance......

Sweet & sad collab on this ballad Mike and Floyd. I think the stripped down production enhances the wistful mood. Well done.

A beautiful presentation Floyd, I like the piano and your vocals of course. Looking around the site a bit I see you've been quite busy Mike, which is awesome because you're so damn good at whipping dem words into shape. Just to see how far off I am: Is it his girl friend and did they agreed not to marry but secretly she wants to be married? wrong again eh? Presuming I'm correct and purely as a listener, I would love to hear tucked away replaced with the other day. Since he had to dig it up, I would assume it's not sitting on top of everything to be the first thing seen when the draw is opened, so instead of stating that it's tucked away, maybe state when it was found, instead. I dug up a diamond from her drawer the other dayGuess she thought i'd never find it Does it matter any way And Yes I am G*W*NV (Green with envy) Don't know how you do it but I'm glad to be around to see it. You Rock my Man You guys make one hell of a Dynamic Duo

I liked this song because it captures the essence of an unresolved issue. One might argue that it's too short and you could have put in a bridge and another chorus - but that may have taken away the unresolved emotion created with the lyric. I liked what seemed to be an intentional hold on "linger" in the chorus too.

Wow! Mike, this is beautiful. Simple & elegant, so the poignancy & uncertainty shine through. I agree with Mike Z. that the line about not intervening adds to the story's classiness. A really nice lyric, and Floyd's done a wonderful job with the music & vocals. A fine collaboration. Donna

Thanx Floyd for such a pretty song! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13126899https://soundcloud.com/mojo-mike/dug-up-a-diamondDug Up A Diamond I dug up a diamond In her drawer tucked away- I agree with Nelson here about the word tucked away. Guess she thought i'd never find it Does it matter any way-- is this supposed to be doesn't matter anyway or does it matter anyway? the 2nd way is a little confusing to me...A pretty diamond It must of meant a lot For her to keep it hidden In such a secret spot Does she take it out when i'm not around And slip it on her finger Did it fade with time or keep its shine Do her feelings still linger I dug up a diamond I wish i'd never seen Got me thinking she's been lying But i won't intervene- not wild about the word intervene...it comes across too proper, not really bad just a little bit, but what about saying-- but I won't say a thing...I feel the word thing can have enough rhyme to go with seen..
A beautiful diamond- I feel the use of beautiful here with the extra syllable in the word beautiful, is taking a little too long to sing and making it sound a tiny bit off..what about another word, gorgeous or stunning? lovely? any 2 syllable to replace it..just my thoughts I bet it took her breath away No denying It sure took mine today Does she take it out when i'm not around And slip it on her finger Did it fade with time or keep its shine Do her feelings still linger I dug up a diamond In her drawer tucked away Other than those couple of very small things I mentioned I believe you have a winner here. I hear someone like George Strait singing this one. Best of luck with it. I really believe its a solid 9 and if you make those tiny alterations, you would have a 10. Kimberly

hey Kimberly,we appreciate your visit and thoughts!I just think "tucked" sounds more country, that's why i used it.It sorta means the same to me,i think if you're just listening and not reading, someone can take it either way."Beautiful" sounds like it fits to me but everyone could choose their own word i guess.I do thank you for your thoughts as always Kimberly!!!If anything out of those,i would do something with "doesn't/does it" line but still by listening and not reading,i don't hear the difference.Thank you!Mike
