Time for a remake of this song that Cal and I wrote several years ago. Ricki reminded me of an "On the Edge" title. I think a Goo Goo Doll production would work. Any Goo Goo Doll bands out there? Loving On the Edgehttp://schicksville.com/Loving%20On%20the%20Edge-JLS-Mix.mp3Loving on the Edge Lyrics: Cal Francis DiFalco Music: John Lawrence Schick
I’m reaching out for something I know that isn’t there I’m looking for that someone Who may profess to care
I’ve given everything Have nothing in reserve And I’d give anything If only to be heard Only to be heard
I’m sitting on this ledge Loving on the edge Flirting with a fall Set to risk it all When everything is said Everything is said I’m loving, loving, loving - on the edge
I’m feeling out of sorts Should I continue on Is this the last resort A second, then I’m gone
I’ll take another peek Maybe I’ll leave a note I can no longer speak I’m feeling so remote Feeling so remote
I’m sitting on this ledge Loving on the edge Flirting with a fall Set to risk it all When everything is said Everything is said I’m loving, loving, loving - on the edge
Loving on the edge

Nothing wrong with a re-make... but this one is just about perfect in my estimation. It has the quality of an "old standard" and that is something very special. If that is Cal's vocal... he did a great job. The title is pretty darn attention grabbing, too. Lovely work, guys. ---Dave

Hi John,
Very lovely song! This sounds like it belongs on BROADWAY!
I'm imagining the singer on stage, in the dark, the spotlight on him, sitting on a ledge, maybe, looking down when he's singing about falling, like he might fall, looking up, when he's hoping, singing his heart out! (Of course, he gets the girl in the end!!)

It's funny the different possibilities that each hears in a song. I'm thinking Sam Smith - maybe even old Steve Tyler(it kinda has a Don't Wanna Miss A Thing vibe to it). And I agree with Lisa(again)- with the music you have on the demo, it lends itself to a theatrical song. For the theatre, I think it's good to go. For radio, I'd suggest omitting the repeated lines(ones ending with "heard" and "remote"). Lead into your chorus with a musical rise(I know you excel at this). I'd use your current V3 as a bridge and move your current V4 to V3. So AABABCB would be the structure of the suggested change. For radio, I'd think you'd want the chorus to repeat more than what it currently does. It'll put you a little over 4 minutes as it is a slow song. But that's still not too long.

What a fabulous song and sung with such pathos. This belongs in a show.

Lisa Thanks Lisa! I was thinking he takes the dive off the ledge. Best, John

Yes, I agree, for mainstream radio I'd have to re-think the arrangement. Thanks for your suggestions. Best, John

Vic Thank you Vic! Not Calvin. I'm ashamed to admit that I can't think of the singers name (though he's perfect for this). I'll try to find out from Cal today. Best, John

I REFUSE to hear it that way, John. Optimistic dames always refuse to see the dark side of things. He jumped!
