Very Interesting! After talking about all the Great Singer Songwriters I find it Depressing even reading about HER.....and Niki Manaj and all the other crap that passes for songs today. I KNOW there some of these new Women Acts like Niki and Beyoncé and others are making fortunes but it doesn't mean they are any good. Our Country and World has been dumbed down in every area. Our Worlds People are mostly going down the drain and the Crazies are in control. WE really could use some NEW Genius Singer Songwriters to show the way....Oh Well....at least Madonna is failing here with her crap....and I mean Crap. http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/12/2...ngs-fizzle-as-sales-collapse-within-days

I'm just an off the scale hobbyist. But I have always had a hunch that politics and overexposure gets these entertainers more than anything else. Maybe C&W is good therapy for her since she finally had a kid after 17 pregnancies.

There's nothing wrong with today's music at all. The mainstream prefers pop artists because that's more easily marketable, but there are plenty of bands and artists out there who write their own songs, compose their own music, and play all their own instruments. Many of today's pop artists do pen at least a portion of their own lyrics, and hire musicians to play behind them because they cannot. They do have the vocal talent, just not the instrumental talent.
There's nothing wrong with not liking mainstream music, but writing the whole lot of it off entirely as crap isn't necessarily true or fair.

Isn't ironic that Katy Perry learned from Madonna but Madonna failed to learn from Katy.Today your lyrics must be accented on the wrong syllable(Extraterrestrial), not make sense(daisy dukes, bikinis on top - California Girls), and be supplemented by moans(take your pick of songs). The truth is that Madonna had vocal talent when she had top celebrity status. I don't think I could see myself as credible if I would say the same for Katy. And though I don't disagree with the fact that some of the today's acts have immense talent(ie. Bruno Mars), today one can go very far on being better at networking and marketing oneself than being creative of quality material and being an above average performer.

What is depressing to me are all the threads that trash all current music. I think there is a ton of good music out there -- but you might not find it (for you) in the "top 20" stations of pop and contemporary country.
Our perception seems to be that music means less to today's young'uns than it did to us. My experience over the Christmas Holidays with nine "kids" (aged 24 to 12) and with my daughter's 18 year old friends and such tells me that conclusion is wrong.
Yes, I remember the full album listening days on the turntable and reading the album liner notes and lyrics and I think the current experiences seem less personal -- but who am I to judge.
Madonna is a superstar with lots and lots of transformations to keep her relevant, but everyone's time runs out. To bash her seems like "sour grapes" to me. To paraphrase John Mayer "her songs are not the enemies of your songs".
