This song was on the lyric board a while back. Pretty close.......to finished.Settling Down Copyright ©2014 Colin Ward V1 It’s time we had something better than a casual encounter, Don’t want to see this ship, running aground, I don’t mean, we need to make an announcement, Just ready to give some thought, to settling down V2 We’ve been flying low, way beneath the radar, No-one even knows that, we’ve been out on the town, I don’t want to see this thing, head to the graveyard So let’s step it up and talk about settling down Ch I’m pretty sure we’ve got a good prescription, And it’s time for us to make it last, I can’t shake it, you’re becoming an addiction, I’m sure we’re not moving too fast V3 So I need to hear from you, where you think we’re going, I don’t want to lose you, don’t like the lost and found, So call me up and tell me if it’s shrinking or growing, And let me know if you’re ready for settling down

Colin,
A good write. Clever rhymes.
The guitar solo is sweet - great tone.
The vocal sounds good - good level and well recorded. But it sounds a little "stiff" for as clever as the lyric is. The song deserves a vocal that is fun and relaxed - sort of the way Toby Keith sings these type songs... sort of tongue-in-cheek... loose...

Calvin, Thanks - glad you like it.
Floyd, You are right about the vocal. That was the first take of a new melody. Needs some work!

Sweet tune and a cool write and sentiment. I can feel that subtle island vibe as well. I’m curious, in the chorus are you playing on the “making a good prescription last” theme, in the 1st two lines, If so, you might consider a, “losing the will to fight an addiction“, theme, for the last two lines. I can’t shake it, you’re becoming my addiction, And my will to Fight is Fading Fast. (Alliteration) 3F’s.. just for added punchiness / fuuuun. I’m sure we’ve got a good prescription, but it’s up to us to make it last, I can’t shake it, you’re becoming my addiction, And my will to Fight is Fading Fast. Happy Thanksgiving EAT TOO MUCH

Colin,
This is a very pleasant melody, and a really unique production. I listened the other day and I like it even better the second time around.
I didn't notice the tuba the first time, but that may ok as sometimes those supporting instrument tracks are best that way. Having said that, it's such a neat concept, that it may work ramped up slightly giving it a little Sgt. Pepper influence along with the Island music. (Which could be a cool avenue to explore production-wise finding a unique vibe) Maybe even add a couple French horns as well.
Nice work Colin, also liked your vocals with this, and as usual wonderful guitar work. This'n definitely a fun song!

Hi Colin,
I remember when you posted the lyric!
This is very sweet -- NICE! I thoroughly enjoyed the song, but I always enjoy your laid-back style!
It kind of has the flavor of Dan Seals' "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight." I got to thinking, as I was listening, about whether you'd want to throw in a couple of phrases like he did, to give us the feeling that she's listening to him and responding. I don't know -- just thinking out loud!
Lisa
P.S. My reasoning behind that is because, during the song, the listener is sort of chomping at the bit to know what she's thinking, so even though we'll never know, it might be nice to feel her presence!

Hi Colin. Going along with Lisa's comment, I think this would be great for a male/female duo(with a few lyric changes).
I'm sure I commented on this lyric before. Can't remember what I said now but there was something about the "lost and found" line that seemed odd. To me the "lost and found" is a railway or post office building where you go to get back something that's lost. Maybe in the US it has a different meaning. I agree with Floyd about the vocal. The music has that happy, bounce to it and the vocal needs a bit more of that imho. I'm sure a man of your talents will figure it out.
All the best. Vic

Thanks everyone. I just uploaded a new version. The lost and found is gone. I added vocal harmonies, a new bass line, and fixed up the mix. Let me know what you think. Is the bass too loud?

Sounds good, Colin.
The production and mix are nicely balanced. The harmonies are a good addition.

Hey Colin!
Yes I think the bass is a bit too dominate, but my thoughts are to eq it away from the tuba and also play more bass notes an octave higher a bit like McCartney did on a few of the Beatles songs. In this manner, you will achieve better identity with both sounds and separation. I know with most conventional bass tracks we "center" the bass track--with this almost "calliope" approach with the tuba, why not keep the bass tuba more dominate one side only and then have the bass guitar say about 40% opposing to even more separate the tones. You also have a lot of power going on before mastering ehh?
As I said earlier though, I do like this song and it's vibe!

Let me preface my comment with the fact that I don't know [naughty word removed]. That said, I would bring the bass down a bit in the verses. It seems to be bouncing a little high in those parts. The other parts, I think the bass level is fine, but I LOVE bass (I think it is the most under appreciated instrument in most music).
Good stuff though. I like it ;~))

In all honesty I would remove the tuba as it's not prominent enough and sounds like a glitch or clipping. You could replace it by brass hits here and there or, If you really wanted to keep it in then try increasing it's vol and lower the bass guitar vol. Vic
