Veranda Beach (Neil Cotton)
One hot summer our family’s car broke down While folks were leaving we were stuck in town Dad was laid off and was low on cash to fix it My parents would adapt to make the best of this
Veranda Beach, was right behind our home Veranda Beach, our lake came from a hose Like our own resort, we sunbathed on the porch At Veranda Beach, we needed nothing more
For five dollars dad bought a plastic pool Grampa splashed around hoping to get cooled For 2 more bucks Dad got a Sun umbrella. Coors in the shade made gramps a lucky fella
Veranda Beach, was right behind our home Veranda Beach, our lake came from a hose Like our own resort we sunbathed on the porch At Veranda Beach we needed nothing more
While others were at an ocean, some fished a mountain stream We had a back deck picnic, no trip home in the heat

Hi Neil,
I really like this. It's both funny and well written. Good imagery as I felt I was watching this unfold. Two things, Veranda Beach is a real lake front beach in Washington state. Probably doesn't matter at all.
For your very first line this may flow a tad better. "One hot summer our family car broke down". I really don't see where the apostrophe s is needed. Just my 2 cents, lol
Great little lyric here!

Amazing how much fun cold be had with 7 bucks in those days. Nice write, Neil. Where the hell is Veranda Beach, anyway? It's anywhere you want it to be...

Neil,
Excellent write here, sir! I can see the backyard and the family enjoying the summer during their "stay-cation".
Well done.
Peace,
David
