Can we say lip synced? Where has live music gone? I miss it.

You are not alone Iggy. That was a good circus act. An excellent collection of talented performers, a wizard light and image production, but I did miss any "music."
The commercials were wimpy. I almost enjoyed the "coast to coast" collections of images in the apocalyptic Chevy one, right down to the raining frogs. Wish a jpf had done some memorable sounds for it.

Pretty hard to sing songs with the effects that are so integral to pop music. Her lip synching was not good, however.

I didn't like it. But I've read comments elsewhere from people who did. I think it comes down to what you like. Would you rather see a spectacle or a musical performance? I'd rather see a musical performance - but it IS the superbowl so I can understand why they might go the spectacle route. I suspect she did herself more good than harm Scott

Her vocals were canned, her music was canned, and the network suits that booked her should be canned as well..20 minutes of my life I'll never have back. The best part was at the end when she disappeared! Seriously though, obviously the production was epic. It was her career in a nutshell.. All style, no substance.

I thought it would be a no-brainer to have John Mellencamp as the halftime act, since the Super Bowl was in his back yard, but that would have been too logical.

I thought it was so-so. It's really hard to keep quality sounds when you're moving around that much and if you fall (which she did) and you're singing/playing live, it's a disaster. My guess is that the network wouldn't have allowed live singing even if she had wanted to. Madonna has long used tracks and was the first to use live auto-tune for her actual live concerts. Her thing is all about the spectacle. The lighting design was excellent. Most casual viewers or those who aren't football junkies likely found it interesting at least. I am actually a Madonna-music fan (she's been ground breaking on the Pop scene for 25 years or more) and wheeling out some ancient artist like Tom Petty wasn't much better if I remember. In fact, when was the last 3 great super bowl performers. Can anyone name 3? I can't. So it served it's purpose. I was more disappointed that there was only like 4 entertaining commercials all night. I doubt anyone went out and bought a product advertised or remembered much of anything about the zillions of ads run afterwards. I did notice the thinly veiled socialist ad Clint Eastwood was in. Made my stomach turn. America is back in Detroit via Dodge/Ram/Jeep? Really? After we gave them billions and then gave the company away for free to the only company that would take them, foreign owned Fiat? Please. He did get the first half malaise right.. more like the first 3 year's of malaise. But with the likely GOP nominee Romney running against Obama, I don't see an inch of difference between them on most issues. Both big big government liberals, neither of which know how to create a job friendly environment. One knows how to make money for himself and the other for his donors and friends. And really, in the end, that will/would apply to both as well.

I didnt even watch the SuperBowl cause I dont care about football or other pro sports.....But I was shocked and outraged to learn that MIA gave the whole world the finger during the halftime show.......NBC gave its meaningless sincere apology.....That this chick wasnt banned for life from NBC shows that the executives havent got any guts and that their "standards and practices" dept is a bad joke.....
The FCC will no doubt fine the network a million of so which they will take out of petty cash.......It should come out of the pay and bonuses of the president of NBC....Then there would be some real action about letting the Super Bowl Halftime show be a showcase for whats new from the sewer....

Madonna is a performer - this was a performance. Would I have rather seen a live band performing? Yes. But this was at least entertaining.
I wonder if the network would have allowed her to actually sing if she wanted to?

I saw the halftime show but didn't notice "the finger". I only noticed that it was a lip sync choreographed show. Choreography and lip syncing go hand in hand. I don't expect Fred Astaire to be a great singer while he's dancing, the same as I didn't expect a great croon job from Michael Jackson (boy am I in trouble now). We should have expected this kind of show, so don't be shocked. I know it's what I expected.
To give "the finger" to a world that has been so good to you is another story.
