Hi Everyone, I wrote some really cool music, it's so cool that I wondered if I stole it from someone but then I remembered I don't know enough to copy music. I think aside from a bridge I may have a complete song, well not a complete lyric yet. I'm having a problem with the bridge though because I don't want it to sound like the rest of the song and I'm so limited with what I know. I'm using F, D7, E then G, D,EM, C, AM so I don't know what to use in the bridge. Can anyone tell me some easy chords that would sound good for the bridge with what I have? I can't use my pinky finger, it just snaps so it will have to be a 3 finger chord. I'll try to post what I have later tonight just to make sure that I didn't somehow copy someone’s music! Dottie

I'm using F, D7, E (verse?) then G, D,EM, C, AM (chorus?) so I don't know what to use in the bridge. Can anyone tell me some easy chords that would sound good for the bridge with what I have? Those are interesting chords to string together. Maybe try something simple in the bridge like G-C-D.

Maybe verse, chorus lol I haven't figured it all out yet! The first chords started out as an intro and I may keep it that way I'm not sure yet. Those are interesting chords to string together. Maybe try something simple in the bridge like G-C-D. By interesting do you mean not good? lol

Try finding a melody first then working in chords to fit......it is sometimes easier to fit chords to melody than melody to chords.

By interesting do you mean not good? lol Good and not good are opinions. Those chords could lead to great song ... or they could lead to a not so great song. There is no way of telling at this stage of the game. But since you said they were part of some "really cool music", the end result will probably be cool too!!!

Dottie--
MACKIE IS GONNA LAY IT ON YOU--LIKE ZEEK DOES TO ME--
1. A few lessons will help--Always have a tuned guitar 2. A metronome will help---timing--timing……... 3. Start with three chord songs, then add a minor or two later…... 4. Tempo and Timing are everything in music--you have to practice….practice…. and more practice--work on a simple song get it sounding like a song.
There are a lot of DVD's available--I USE SOME--and LESSONS on Youtube--Start SIMPLE and PROGRESS will come with practice! REMEMBER….LITTLE STEPS…….THEN BIG STEPS……AT MY AGE, I'M STILL TRYING TO LEARN--IT TAKES A LOT OF PRACTICE, AND THEN IT'S STILL NOT PERFECT!
HANG IN THERE GIRL--YOU HAVE STARTED--THERE'S A LOT OF HELP ON THIS SITE--
Mackie

Hey Dottie, you threw out some chords, and that's fine. I think Mackie's advice was best, because he was the only one to ask about the tempo. The song isn't going to go anywhere without a tempo.
PM someone here and get a phone number or Skype. This is where colabs begin. Don't let the song go to waste.

Hi Mackie, Thank you for always taking the time to leave your thoughts. I had an mp3 posted for a few minutes to give an idea of what I was trying to do but I decided I would try to make it sound better before posting it so I took it down. Hi Ben, That's a very tempting idea you suggested! You might get a PM. Thank you all very much as you know I can use all the help I can get. I think if I just had someone to play with it would make a world of difference so I'm starting lesson Jan.5th. I don't know how many lessons I'll take I guess it depends on how much it helps! Dottie

That explains why I have so much trouble. I put together a progression then start writing the song to it. I often have problems finding chords for chorus and the bridge. It's getting a little easier but sometime it's like pulling teeth. Maybe I'll try the melody first, which is always like pulling teeth.

Hi Dottie:
You've already received some pretty solid advice so I won't "muddy the water." I just wanted to give you encouragement and let you know we're all in your corner. This is a big step in the right direction. Don't be afraid to fail. Failure is only evidence that you are trying. Eventually, success will arrive and you will understand the meaning of real happiness.
All the best,
Dave
