This was such an enjoyable conversation cuz Maron got out of the way and let her talk and talk. Skip forward to somewhere around minute 12-15 to get to the conversation..

Part of the gospel singing group "The Staple Singers" with her dad "Pops" as front-man, they would tour Japan in the early Sixties before Martin Luther King invited them to become part of his entourage. She talks about King, The Civil Rights Movement, close calls with white supremacists, her dad "Pops" discovering Dylan's music and adding his and others' Protest Music to their repertoire, her three year affair with Bob Dylan, recording with Steve Cropper/Stax Records, and her new record with Ben Harper.

She's Eighty, but you wouldn't know it by listening to her talk. All her wits and charm are still there. The epitome of class. And what an amazing life.

If you don't know her music, you owe it to yourself to at least hear some of the Stax recordings of the Staple Singers..I mean c'mon, "Respect Yourself" .."I'll Take You There" ...? This is Great American Music that never gets old:
