"Star Struck Out"-Copyright 2018 M.Healey
She'd out-sing a bird some days Critics quickly put in place She'd say: "That's who I am" Or: "I don't give a damn"
And then she up and ran away She phoned and told me-I'm okay There's no need for unease We only played at family
Star struck out On her own with good intentions Star struck out With a need to call attention Star struck out She was bent on better deals With a fist or with high heels Star struck out Star struck out
A nobody became a name Singin' songs the world her stage I had to check her out I guess I still had doubts
I caught her eye once when I waved The spotlight shining on her face Like, "Yes-it's me up here And then she disappeared
Star struck out On her own with good intentions Star struck out With a need to call attention Star struck out She was bent on better deals With a fist or with high heels Star struck out Star struck out
I guess she ran away again The rags all threw big Benjamins At anyone who'd testify To where she was and why
But no one could ever tell us Maybe she's away with Elvis Or The Door's Jim Morrison But I don't think she's done
There may be more to come __________________________

Nice write. Intelligent. Not heard the phrase "Big Benjamins" before but I can guess the meaning.

This one had to be inspired at least in part by the release of the fourth version of "A Star is Born". Didn't see any of the previous three but would be fun to be able to roll them all together and watch all the versions at once. Am a little confused though by the last couple of verses.

No, not inspired by A Star Is Born Beech; I happened to be reading about young people that couldn't handle fame, (careful what you wish for) and went from there. You didn't mention what bothered you about the last two verses, and explaining usually means the writer didn't do the job. However, I'm wondering, (apologize if I'm wrong) if you knew "rags" was a derogatory term for certain publications. (and their tactic of offering money for info) The other thing is the cultural myth of Elvis and The Lizard King supposedly being still alive.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! -Mike

Everone's a critic Lane! LOL! Seriously, I appreciate anyone that takes the time to comment on my stuff. It's all good. Thank you! -Mike P.S. My wallet doesn't get worn out as fast since my son has been on his own for years. Although it still goes empty pretty fast!

Yes, I did know about that definition of the word "rags". But those of us who have been around awhile can also recall when the word gay meant happy, and aids were things used to help people.

Well I've been around for 65 years, so I suppose that qualifies as "awhile", and back when "gay" meant "happy", homosexuals routinely got beat up by groups of straight guys. (That's manly?)

I like the story Mike but being a Brit confused by a couple of the phrases I've lived a sheltered life unlike Vic who's hobnobed with the stars lol ( seriously) Actually Vic and i wrote a song about the same subject couple years ago it was called Newspaper Talk. You write well Mike! Cheers Travis

Thanks so much Travis.! Oh I'm sure no one could compete with Vic's colourful past. I bet he has to have a walk-in closet to hold that many skeletons!
