My entry for the 'Poem to Remember' competition I wrote this and entered it just before my Helen became seriously ill, and she loved it so much, that I decided to add it to youtube with myself speaking. youtube link: https://youtu.be/WKpmYuCx4BM----------------------------------------- The criteria was to write a poem to be read at the opening in 2018 of one of the world's best clinical rehabilitation centers for the armed forces. The Defence and National Rehabilitation CentreOk, I didn't get anywhere in the competition, but I do like what I wrote and thought others may too. It's not sour grapes. God Bless all Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) link: https://www.thednrc.org.uk/Words to poem: (c) Roy Cooper 2018 'Among The Best of Human Kind' A thousand poems and songs Honour those who've died We speak their names out loud With awe and love and pride And for those who do survive With minds or bodies broken Our time and efforts given Will be more than just a token Cause' In the face of danger They all overcame their fears For some it cost their life While others hurt for years Then there's the devoted Who try to make things right They burn the midnight oil And labour day and night Their aim to ease the suffering Of bodies and of mind Doctors, nurses, specialists Among the best of human kind And for everyone who cares While memory remains Remember those who give so much And don't forget their names.

Roy,
This is very well done . . . If it didn't win, I'd like to think it was in the mix for consideration; it's certainly deserving of it. A nice write--I enjoyed my read very much.
On a separate note, Roy--and I'm sorry I haven't had the opportunity to say so sooner--my sincere condolences on your loss. I've only been a member here at JPF for a short time, but it took less than that to understand the special bond you had with your Helen. You shared something priceless and eternal, something that few really have the blessing to know--always remember and treasure that. It will keep you both together forever.
All the best,
Deej
