A lament to a seemingly lost era. Wonder how many of you miss those freer, more swinging times. Another "American Pie", perhaps. This was inspired by something a psychic reader told me a few months back when I asked her if she thought the mood would shift again. According to her, probably not anytime soon, although I am one of those who wish it would.

FRIDAY NIGHT BATTLE CRY
(LET’S DANCE)

c2017 Brian Beecher

Going out dancing used to be our sweet spot
But we don’t feel the need to gather anymore
Clubs we went to are all gone
We no longer paint the town
Emotionally content to keep ourselves indoors

When the work week ended we once had Friday night fever
We were much more willing then to take a chance
In those for more swinging times
We had a different frame of mind
Heading out for the evening we’d all say “Let’s dance”

It was the Friday night battle cry
With the work week over we kissed our cares goodbye
It was heel and toe, do-si-do, disco and fast and slow
Lasting well into the night
It was the Friday night battle cry

The news we hear makes some uncomfortable aspects
When it comes to following the things you love
These days the women don’t trust the men
By the messages they send
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to hear “Let’s dance” again

It was the Friday night battle cry
With the work week over we kissed our cares goodbye
It was heel and toe, do-si-do, disco and fast and slow
Lasting well into the night
It was the Friday night battle cry
It was the Friday night battle cry
It was the Friday night battle cry

Well, I was never in that frame of mind growing up but can see where the song came from. Would imagine that there are some clubs still out there but far and few between for what this 'singer' is looking for. smile

Thanks so much for reviewing this one. Do you have an opinion as to why there is so much less nightlife these days? Would love to hear it.

The obvious theory is that people don't go out any more. They have social media, every experience they can possibly think of inside their homes, no crowds, no drunk driving, no rediculous beer costs.

But it does hurt the face to face aspect of being humans. We're headed in a different direction, maybe that's why even with so much communication going on, nobody is really talking to each other

I challenge the idea that people don't go out anymore. Just go to any major city or one of its upscale suburbs and you will find plenty of restaurants that a full the majority of the time, and most of these are places I couldn't afford to eat at. And you also can't say that people aren't drinking anymore. The convenience stores are loaded with it, and much space that use to be occupied by sundries such as candy and chips have been replaced by liquor bottles. What do you feel is the different direction we are headed in? A popular song from the 1960s taken from a biblical passage tells us that to everything there is a season, and therefore there will be a time for kicking up the heels again. But I might be surprised if it occurred within my lifetime. People are still going out, but it seems to be more the theme restaurant thing now.

Millenials are definitely not going out any more. Boomers may be because they aren't hooked on tech like Millenials are.

The direction I mentioned is observing the outside world from the comfort of your own home, it's already happening

These new adaptation to live have meant bad news for a lot of traditional businesses of all kinds, to be sure. The big gold rush now is home delivery of food. I bet there are only 20 percent of restaurants that haven't jumped onto this bandwagon as of yet. Will be interesting to see if this ends up being a passing fad ala disco.

And it actually was Boomers that began this whole return to the home movement in the late 1980s when their battle cry was "Been there, done that" when it came to late night partying, casual sex, etc. That trend at the time was often referred to as "Cocooning". I really didn't think it would last, and that once they became empty nesters they would change their tune and really pine for those nights on the town. But it really didn't seem to happen.
