DOWN IN BUCK TOWN © 2012 Mackie Humphries
V1 On the Southside they live the blues Gettin’ down sounds moaning old tunes Up on the porch Big Mama sings Some old player picks his six-string.
V2 A shot rings out by the pool hall Someone makes a 9-1-1 call There’s blood on the sidewalk A young man dies but nobody talks.
CH It’s another night down in Buck Town Hustlers line up to make their rounds Blue lights flash while sirens sound Somebody’s heartache lays on the ground It’s another night down in Buck Town.
V3 Two old-timers down on their luck Get a bottle for a few bucks A street dancer's feeling the beat Doing his thing tapping his feet.
CH It’s another night down in Buck Town Hustlers line up to make their rounds Blue lights flash while sirens sound Somebody’s heartache lays on the ground It’s another night down in Buck Town.
BR So Big Mama go on sing your song Cos somebody has done gone wrong
CH It’s another night down in Buck Town Hustlers line up to make their rounds Blue lights flash while sirens sound Somebody’s heartache lays on the ground It’s another night down in Buck Town.
OUTRO Blue lights flash while sirens sound Somebody’s heartache lays on the ground It’s another night down in Buck Town ...................... down in Buck Town.

DOUGLAS--
THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT--THE SONG IS TAME COMPARED TO THE MOVIE--I APPRECIATE YOUR TAKING TIME ON THIS ONE--WORKING ON A BLUESY RIFF OR TWO, IF I GET AROUND TO DOING A MP3 OF IT.

Mackie

Hi Mackie I can visualise the opening of such a movie. A busy street at night, pimps and prostitute's on the look out for business, a drunk or two, shopkeepers, peddlers people getting on quickly with their lives walking by.And this bluesy song played over the opening credits. 77 Sunset Strip revisited(remember that lol) Make a great song. Mackie, This is one of your best. The rhymes and meter click. The imagery is stark. The story well-told. I can see it unfold right in front of me as I walk down that dark street in my mind. You hit this one out of the park.

Michael--
I have a print in my bedroom, done by a New Orleans Artist in the 60's--I don't know if her BUCKTOWN is still there!
This is kinda of a juxtaposition of me thrown into this place watching the story play out!
Thanks for checking this one BRO'--
Mackie

I'm finding out that Buck Town is in New Orleans. Glad it is not here in Nashville. I hear enough sirens living across from Vanderbilt Hospital. Lots of good imagery.

JIM--
THANKS FOR READING--THERE ARE A LOT OF BUCKTOWNS BESIDES IN NEW ORLEANS--IT'S MY IDEA OF A LOT OF THEM ROLLED INTO ONE MIXED WITH A LITTLE FICTION AND INSPIRATION FROM A MOVIE BY THAT TITLE!

Mackie
