Hi, Everyone!
Sorry I haven't been around very much. Too many things going on at home and work.
The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.
The parameters of this challenge is to use the hook "I knew you when ..." in either the chorus or as a line that is repeated in the verses. If you want, you may alter the hook a little by changing the pronouns but please keep the "knew" and "when" in the hook.
Good luck to you and have fun.

Don't know if this qualifies Jean, but I was having a block here purely because there is a great song with that very title "I Knew You When" (pls listen) that I've always really liked (#14 in our Charts and #1 in Canada) and so I can't get it out of my mind while trying to write a new one. Sooooo... what I did was (and they say in the song books it's a good exercise to do this) write new lyrics that meter closely the original song. I did keep the Chorus from the original and wrote new verses of which there are four. Here is the link to the song which was covered by several artists. Billy Joe Royal made it famous in 1965, but here's Linda Ronstadt http://youtu.be/QDfCcAtJc0A(again the Chorus (in bold) is the original for which I can't take credit) I knew you when you were lonely I knew you when you were only A boy all alone without love I knew you whenI knew you when You were insecure and shy All alone and by yourself Certain love would pass you by I knew you when We first met that summer day Fell in love and fell so fast Chasing all your fears away Yeah yeah yeah yeah, hey I knew you when you were lonely I knew you when you were only A boy all alone without love I knew you when, I knew you whenI knew you when You were mine and I was yours But another took my place Left me shaken so unsure I knew you when We found it hard to say goodnite Now you’re off with someone new When you used to hold me tight Yeah yeah yeah yeah, hey I knew you when you were lonely I knew you when you were only A boy all alone without love

Playing pool and drinking beer was great But now he's asking me out on a date I knew him, when he was straight He went on some kind of vacation Came back with a fancy operation I knew him, when he was straight CHORUS... Playing pool and drinking beer was great But now he's asking me out on a date I knew him, when he was straight CHORUS... Hi Jean, not much time these days to write either, but really like writing to the challenges cause it sparks my imagination when i don't know what to write about!
I Know You Now
(c) 2011 Geneva Griffin
Verse 1 I knew you when, fact was boys were fools, Yea I knew you then.. you acted so cool, You teased me when, you walk by my yard, Then pleased me with a Monarche in a jar..
Chorus Guess I was under your thumb right from the start, You'd be wrapped round my finger in the end, A little growin' up, a lotta time apart, Then brought back together once again, I was able to tell you loved me somehow...... I knew you when.. I thought I knew you then.. ..But I know you now....
Verse 2 I'd be so glad, when you moved away, Then I felt so sad, I couldn't relate it, Back then I didn't know, I had a crush on you, But when we met again, I knew you had one too..
Chorus Guess I was under your thumb right from the start, You'd be wrapped round my finger in the end, A little growin' up, a lotta time apart, Then brought back together once again, I was able to tell you loved me somehow...... I knew you when.. I thought I knew you then.. ..But I know you now....
Bridge Back in the day, if that old fence had feelins', Those sticks and stones bruised, but those words.... .... had meanin' behind meanin....
Chorus Guess I was under your thumb right from the start, You'd be wrapped round my finger in the end, A little growin' up, a lotta time apart, Then brought back together once again, I was able to tell you loved me somehow...... I knew you when.. I thought I knew you then.. ..But I know you now....
Tag I knew you when.. I knew you then.. ..But I know you now....
Yea I liked you when, I didn't like you then, But I love you now..

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
