TALKIN BOUT Whilst trawling another site I found this guy who is trying to get this song taken on by a major artist but it hasn't happened yet. I know little about country but this seems really rocking! What do country/rock lovers think of this song? Cheers JD

Scott,
It sounds like a lot of things that are out there. Sounds good but that is kind of the problem, sounds like a lot of stuff out there. A friend of mine, Danny Wells and Tony Mullins wrote a very similar one "Called A Little Bit of Life" for Craig Morgan, that was very similar. Was a pretty decent hit a little while back.
Happens all the time, we are all writing the same stuff. But this one does sound good, very much in the pocket, very contemporary. Might need to hang on to it for a while till the other one is forgotten a bit more, or like so many of them you just kind of have to write more songs.
Good job on the overall song though. Really kicks and is what is going on in country. Sometimes we just get beat to the punch.

According to the writer it is on hold for Craig Morton. Interesting...

A hold simply means that someone in the organization (which can be hundreds of people) are interested in playing it for someone higher up. They can be "on hold" for years.
If it is for Craig Morton (who I don't know), Craig Morgan is the artist who recorded the other one, it would be very surprising if he would record a song so similar to one he has released. There are also a lot of other artists that will release similar sounding songs, often record companies will say "We want one like that one..." but most often they have been written years before.
This is another part of the industry. Timing. You might have an incredible song, absolutely great idea, perfectly done, and someone else just gets there before you. At that point if you release yours you will be accused of "following the leader" even though yours was written or recorded first.
There is not much you can do about it. You just write what you can, get them recorded well, get them out there and hope for the best, but always write more songs.
In a song like this, it is very good. WEll written, very good production. Just very similar stylewise and subject matter as another song that came out first. Another aspect you have to look at (there are always ten million things behind the scenes past the song) is that Danny Wells and Tony Mullins, the writers of the other song, have had an extensive track record with hits with George Straight, Tim McGraw, etc. They are going to have an inside track with anything because of their previous hits.
I do wish whoever wrote this well. There are always new artists coming up through the ranks and trying to get it to one of those is a very good idea. Always look in your local areas first. The next Craig Morgan or Morton might just be playing in a bar near you.
