Here's a thread where you can add a link to what YOU believe to be YOUR best song.
It can be an 'audio link' or 'video link' if your song is in video format, and you particularly proud of the video.
They can be collaborations or totally by one person.
Songs must be complete and finished, but not necessary Demo quality. Words, music and a voice are fine as are instrumentals if that’s what you do.
This is not a competition and YOU CAN COME BACK at any time and change your song choice if you create what you feel is a better song.
The whole point of this is that visitors can come and have a listen to some songs from the great songwriters who frequent or have frequented these boards.
They don't have to be JPF created as long as one of the writers or the vocalist is a member of JPF.
So Folks be your own judge here.
And no ADDED comments please on songs or those posting, although comments on the topic are welcome.
If you want to say something then a PM to the person will keep this topic reasonable clutter free.
I will start by adding what I believe to be my best song at this moment in time, although I do have some close seconds.
Remember folks, COME BACK at any time and change your song choice if you create what you feel is a better song.

I have some good songs IMO but this is my fav at the moment
Just Changed it.

Lyrics:
'Selfless Acts '
A little girl from Marysville No more than 8 years old Led her family from a fire When smoke and flames took hold A boy of 7 called the cops Was frightened as he spoke 3 men with guns are robbing us And they're gonna shoot my folk
A child may do a selfless act That is outstanding, brave and bold Yes a child can be heroic An inspiration to behold
A little girl named Geraldine Had cancer when aged 9 Ran a marathon raising cash For friends she left behind Christopher at 12 years old Was crushed by a falling tree Pushed his elder bro away Who said he gave his life for me
A child may do a selfless act That is outstanding, brave and bold Yes a child can be heroic An inspiration to behold
Every child is special Deserving of our respect Because they're the future, Loves the least they should expect They have a childlike innocence, And child like trusting love They have a grace that’s holy, It's a gift from God above
There are so many children, who live with awful pain Going through endless operations, Time and time again. Then there are other kids, Carer's, looking after mum Giving up on childhood things, Loosing out on fun
A child may do a selfless act That is outstanding, brave and bold Yes a child can be heroic An inspiration to behold
Yes a child can be heroic An inspiration to behold

Great idea Roy!
This was a tough call for me. My native language is English, but I also write and sing in French, and one of my best songs, IMHO, is in French.
For this thread, I've chosen a song in English, a song for which I rerecorded the vocals a few months ago, since I was never happy with the original version. I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but I really felt for the character of Jacob and how he pined for Bella, the main character.
Here it is:
Fade Into Me (2011) on Reverbnation (c) 2009 Ann Feld
Lyrics:
Twilight falls Like blood around My feet You know my secret But here comes one more
It's what I could never tell Tell you straight It's what I could never Not....not while you're with him
That I'm captivated That I'm captivated You draw me in your shades Of black and white Captivated When you leave me, leave me Hanging, hanging on your maybes
And you're not the most beautiful And he never sees your real happiness But fascination grips me, grips me In its fist And I could be What you want me to be And I would let you Think without me And most of all I'd never hurt you Like he did.....
All I want is for you to fade into me Like you do with him With me With him With me With him With me

Roy,
I'm not sure I have a favorite - I think it depends on what kind of mood I'm in. At this time of the day, I'm leaning towards "Kisses and Whiskey"

I'm not sure there is a "best"--opr maybe the best just hasn't been wrote yet. Which one(s) I'm partial to changes from week to week, too. Right now, I'm partial to my song about the stalker, "In the Shadows, I'll Be Watching You." Why? Not sure.
Lyrics follow. link, FWIW, is http://www.soundclick.com/share?songid=9018034
Joe
[4/4, mod. slow two-step]
IN THE SHADOWS, I’LL BE WATCHING YOU --J. Wrabek
1. You put whiskey in your coffee when you first get up, While the T.V. dinner is still warming up, And dress yourself like there’s no one around to see; You stare at your desk from time to time, Waiting for that clock to give you back your life, And I wish you could share it with somebody else besides me.
CHORUS: In the shadows, I’ve been watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, wherever you’ll be, You’re going to have a little company; In the shadows, I’ll be watching you.
2. The band’ll be playing at the bar tonight, And they don’t sound bad if you’re standing outside, And if they’washed the windows, I might get to see you dance; You’ll leave alone, not walking right, And I’ll follow t’make sure you get home all right, And we’ll both get a little shut-eye if we get the chance.
CHORUS: In the shadows, I’ve been watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, wherever you’ll be, You’re going to have a little company; In the shadows, I’ll be watching you.
3. I fantasize what it might be like If we both got introduced sometime; I’m really not sure what sorts of things I could say; “The pink lace panties are the ones that look best”? “You’ve been drinking too much, and you need more rest”? I prob’ly just ought to stay quiet, and out of your way.
CHORUS: In the shadows, I’ll be watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, whatever you’ll be, You’re going to have a little company; In the shadows, I’ll be watching you.
REPEAT LAST LINE OF CHORUS TO END

Feedback I've gotten seems to converge on three songs that others consider my best: "Arizona", "Opening Day", and "Still Making It Up As We Go".
They probably are. Still, I find that I'm often happiest with something recent. So I'll avoid the issue by not posting my best song. Instead, my favorite song from 2010.
It's really a medley of two short songs that were both posted separately this year. I've decided to make them a medley for my next project because they go together on a couple of different levels:
Over the Moon For You/Everything's Coming Out Blue is here:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=377550&songID=10060128
I'll stick the lyric below. Thanks again to Niteshift for the sax part on the first song
Scott
Over the Moon For You/Everything's Coming Out Blue (c) 2010 by S.W. Campbell
Sidewalk busker sees me bouncing along He tips his hat, grabs his axe, starts singing our song A little girl with flowers tosses me a rose And the hustler at the bus stop gives me five down low Everyone sees what’s true I’m over the moon for you
Grocer on the corner tosses me a plum A couple cops on horses raise their thumbs And the beat box angels shout and wave hello While the shell game grifter winks a “way to go” Everyone sees what’s true I’m over the moon for you
And the music of a saxophone drifts up from the underground How could I ever think that was a mournful sound?
A red faced cabbie lays on his horn Cause I’m not really watching where I’m going He shouts, “Buddy live to see her for one more day” He grins and shakes his head as he speeds away Everyone sees what’s true I’m over the moon for you
I planted a rose as pink as your nose But then it bloomed a peculiar hue Since you’ve been gone, everything’s coming out blue
I think the cherry tree’s feeling just like me Cause it bears an oddly colored fruit Since you’ve been gone, everything’s coming out blue
Blue is the thread that weaves its way through empty days Blue is the feeling I can’t shake when you’re away
And the fireflies still shine their light But with a color out of true Since you’ve been gone, everything’s coming out blue
Blue is the thread that weaves its way through empty days Blue is the feeling I can’t shake when you’re away
And the whippoorwill on my window sill Sings his mournful tune Since you’ve been gone everything’s coming out blue

Red White and So Blue
(c) 2009 Janice Hopkins/Larry Westfall/Magne Kolstad
When I think of the ones That have all gone before The brave and the young Guarding freedom's door
If we only believe In the heartfelt truth Then it's time we agree It's Red White and So Blue
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue
Good men have always fought To lend a helping hand Their country came first As they drew lines in the sand
So the next time you see Fireworks in the sky Think of those who've kept us free While this good nation cries
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue
Remember how our children fall As the somber notes are played While you bow your heads....recall The truths in the colors that we wave
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue

Thank you Roy...this is glorious and a wonderful way to familiarize with any of the many wonderful artists on JPF!!
My Best is always a collaboration because working with others brings out the best in everyone!! (I also can't do ANY of this on my own)
The beautiful lyrics/melody of Roderick, the amazing music of Vicarn, and my shared melody/singing TamsNumber4
COME AND DANCE WITH ME on SoundClick
COME AND DANCE WITH ME on ReverbNation
Come And Dance With Me Rod Coleman c-2010
Lying here feeling all the things I feel makes me crazy The fighting echoes in this big ol' house almost daily But tonight I'm alone, so I pick up the phone and I hear you softly say, "The lights are down low and I need you so... Come dance with me"
"Come and dance with me Come lay your body close to mine" "Come and dance with me And be my lover for all time" I know it's wrong I start thinking 'bout the vows I failed to keep Then you whisper again, the music begins "Come dance with me"
Driving home, the tears start to fall, and I'm wondrin' how? Been so long since I touched my man He's like a stranger now Why can't he see that it's him I need If he would only say out loud, "The lights are down low and I need you so... Come dance with me"
(Bridge) What happened to the man that I knew who made me his world? I guess he was wrong Now it's all gone and I'm not a girl...anymore
"Come and dance with me Come lay your body close to mine" "Come and dance with me And be my lover for all time" But he wants to fight and criticize About just who he wants me to be And I have a choice until I hear your voice... "Come dance with me" I have a choice until I hear your voice... "Come dance with me"

This is very hard to chose my best, because I am so utterly incapable of seeing much in my own work... so I will put one that seemed to get pretty good compliments from the sites and from one publisher... This is a collaboration with Mr. Taylor Brandesky. Without a Trace
Thanks. If anyone is a performer, and is interested in this song, please contact me. Lyrics are below...
Kimberly
Without A Trace
I was starving in a wilderness without Searching for myself, searching for a love Wrapped up in doubt Just past the loneliness, just past the pain I saw love standing there Now I'm not the same
(Chorus) Catch me if you will Save me if you can And if you need me take me by the hand Catch me if you will Save me if you can But if you don't love me, help me understand How to lose you How to lose myself 'Til you're gone Without a trace
You came to me, you came to me with emptiness inside Searching for yourself, searching for a love Troubled state of mind Just past the craziness, just beyond your soul We love past our passion Then we lost control
(Chorus)
(Bridge) No matter what I do No matter what I say Every time my heart beats it fills my blood with you Every time I say your name I get high from the sound Spinning me into oblivion, round and round and round
(Chorus) © Kime/Brandesky 2009

Well, I couldn't resist this thread. Some folks might disagree with my pick, but that's O K .... Y'all can make up your own minds as to which of my tunes are the least offensive. My personal favorite tune (by me) is titled, "A Bitch Like You", but some people are more partial to the "Peckerwood Song" which is probably as "sappy" as I got on this first project. See if you agree with me. Use good speakers or a headset or go to a bar with a good sound system and an AMI internet jukebox for the full effect. http://www.myspace.com/jakeblakeproject >> Happy Happy New Year Everybody! And if you're into Redneck, look me up on youtube ....

Crown of gold
Copyright Dan Sullivan 2011
I'm gatherin' all my thoughts I'm wonderin' what's worse To live without your love Or to die of thirst
I've concealed my feelings Kept them under lock and key Had to hide from prying eyes What you mean to me
Darkness softly slipping Like a hood over my head Every night I dream of you Laying on my bed
Now storm clouds are gatherin'. They fill the western sky As the sun slips away like love slowly dyin'
I'm gatherin' my defenses I'm lifting shield and spear I can hear the trumpets calling As my enemy draws near
I'm gatherin' all my thoughts I'm wonderin' what's worse In this world both truth and lies Haunt me like a curse
I'm harvestin' from dreams Planted long ago That a crown now made of thorns Might one day turn to gold

Man,How These Walls Cry
I wrote this about almost 3 years ago,Derek Hines came in and did the rewrite and laid the basic music down, then Caroline came in and smoothed it out for us....THEN
Mike Caro (Substudio) did the full production, live everything, and did the singing on it.....I LOVE THIS SONG....WHAT CAN I SAY...THANKS AGAIN DEREK, AND CAROLINE....BUT MOST OF ALL THANK YOUR MIKE CARO
How These Walls Cry
Through the years I've seen many things Some I wish i had not seen I've seen men come and go Some go home and some go well, you know.
It's a shame it took this to bring me to my knees
It doesn't matter who you are the roughest, toughest, meanest of men With all kinds of tattoos There will come a day when you'll have to bend
You know when somethings going down there's any icy wicked chill in the air and it's thicker than ice you better think twice Before you show anyone that your scared
it's seeping through the walls like fingers reaching out for you stops you in your tracks afraid to breathe or even move
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry.
My Mama revered the Lord She said, son you'd better be good Or you'll go straight to hell well it feels like I am in this cell
Mamma did what she could But she can't stop these walls from closing in At times I swear I hear them talking I pace the floors spend hours walking At anytime my life could end
When my mamma cried for me i just laughed right in her face Now her wisdom I ignored Has put me in this place
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry
How these walls cry
(Bridge) Well, if I could get out for just one day you know what i'd do i'd get down on my knees and kiss that woman's feet Tell her I was such a fool
I've seen a man kill another man just for sitting on his bed Life means nothing behind these bars just look at someone wrong and your dead
Yeah they act so tough swearing, cussin' and fighting At night the damned lay still scared by a little thunder and lighting
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry How these walls cry

Choosing this one because it got the most views of all the ones I've posted so far on JPF, and I am partial to it because it's retro and I love retro. I'm a dreamer so I'm still hoping Carrie, LeAnn, Faith, Kellie or Martina pick this one up, dress in a poodle skirt and do a vintage black and white video ala oldies style. Have the whole video scripted in my mind complete w/jukebox, dancehall, malt shop, 57 chevy, etc.

Back around 1983 I penned this one. Don't have a link/tho it's on my Freshman CD at CDBaby.com/TampaStan...
"CRIES IN THE NIGHT" (C) by Stan Good, BMI
There's a Man with a Badge & He's Feelin' Sad 'Cuz There's Nothing..He Can Do But Watch a Young Man Die on The Lower East Side From a Hollow-Point..22
There's a Woman in Chains, Hard to Explain, But She Has a Whip in Her Hands There's a Man on All Fours, Gotta Follow Her Course Or Else..She'll Swing It Again
(CHORUS) CRIES IN THE NIGHT...CRIES IN THE NIGHT Some Cry From PLEASURE Some Cry From PAIN and SOME CRIES IN THE NIGHT You Never HEAR FROM Again...
Hey, A Mugger-in-Rags needs A Cheap Nickel Bag But..This Victim's Wary-&-Smart.. Mugger Makes One Mistake, It's the Last One He'll Make: Hidden Knife Finds Its Way to His Heart
& A Gal on The Strip wants to Try One Last Trick So This John Lets Her Into His Car But The Price Isn't Right, so She Pays With Her Life 'Cuz She Wasn't Goin' That Far...
(REPEAT CHORUS)
(BRIDGE) Outside My Window, Something Shatters The Night (Shatters The Night) Outside My Window..Cries Pierce The Darkness..Faster Than Light
It's About 2AM and He Hears It Again As The Doc Opens-Up Her Left Side On a Cold Winter's Morn, New-Warm Baby is Born Never Knowing Its Mother Just Died..
Now My Love Huddles-Near, Both in Passion & Fear Inhibitions..Turn Into Delight First The Warmth of Her Breath, Then The Folds of Her Dress Help Make Me FORGET What's Outside...
(CHORUS) Those CRIES IN THE NIGHT...CRIES IN THE NIGHT Some Cry From PLEASURE Some Cry From PAIN and SOME CRIES IN THE NIGHT You Never HEAR FROM Again--
(TAG) CRIES IN THE NIGHT..CRIES IN THE NIGHT... Some Cry From PLEASURE..Some Cry From PAIN and SOME CRIES IN THE NIGHT YOU NEVER HEAR FROM AGAIN---
P.S. (This is the Best Song I'VE recorded. I'm pretty FOND of one I penned to Mark Kaufman/Steve Soucey's melody and ROBERT PICKENS sang)..THIS Last Year: "LET'S TAKE THE TIME"...at <http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=9293280&q=hi8ne> If, as-usual, my Computerese kinda Blows-It...just search Soundclick.com & Robert Pickens...& thar-she-be.

Every now and then there is a place for a dark, deep, meaningful song.....this is my fav.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=687727&songID=7021572
Unfinished Letter Big Jim Merrilees © April 2008
He carefully folded his glasses Put them away in their case Leaned back in his leather armchair And clasped his hands to his face Sat still there for a few moments head full of conflicting thoughts Have all the “T”s been crossed Do all the “I”s have dots.
He leaned forward and looked at the letter Is this what he meant to say Could he have put things better Was there an easier way He took a gulp from the bottle It burned as it went down Vision was blurred from the whisky His head was spinning around
How could things have gotten To this final drastic stage Maybe he should write just one more page He mustered up his courage This time he was gonna be brave He was going to print it this time He was not going to click on save
His finger hovered over the button His mind was on overload Another slug out of the bottle Just one more for the road This time was gonna be different He was never gonna be beat But he knew just like the times before He would only hit delete.
Maybe finish it another time This letter he didn’t write Be brave and complete it some other dark night Say the things he’s afraid to say And the things he’s trying to hide But some things are better left unsaid About love and suicide.

this is a work in progress, it's very long over 20 minutes. It is my personal project for Uni, so if you have lots of time and patience take a listen. It could never be described as a meaningless pop song!!

This is a song I don't think I ever even posted on jpfolks before. It's stuck on myspace and I can't get it off without buying it. grr.
http://www.myspace.com/minerad
Crazy Somehow v1 well i know that she's crazy but she's got the looks that kill, her body's built for satisfaction, i'm gonna get my fill, the scars on her wrist tell a tale i didn't see, it's too late the sun's come up she's lyin next to me.
ch yeah we're all, crazy now, maybe i'm the one, that's crazy somehow. yeah we're all, crazy now, maybe i'm the one, that's crazy somehow.
v2 everyone i know says i, gotta get away, but the way she works that body makes it so hard to say, everytime that i get close she teases me with more, there's somethin bout this drama-queen that i just can't ignore.

Don't know that I have a "best", but this particular song is close to my heart.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=8340272
Billy Playle was my collaborator (arrangement/melody/guitar/vocals).
What Colour Is Love?
(v1 ) There’s the grey fog of grief Of the grim disbelief When you’ve lost once again What was dear to your heart Or the steel-blue of pain When the tears want to start But…
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
(v2) There’s the umber of sadness Deep-space black of madness Or white gold left behind By stars that have died Or the purple of violence That so many will hide
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
Bridge Perhaps it’s the mixed box of crayons A lonely child holds in its hand As it carefully fills in the contours Of a family in fairytale land
(v3) There’s the beige of old-fashioned Or the wine-red of passion When blood starts to pound And emotions run deep Or the pearl-silver silence As you watch a child sleep But…
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
Outro Does love have a colour? Or a sound we can sing? And if love has a colour Is it in Everything?

Probably not the most popular. Too brooding and sad. But I consider it one of my best.

This Would Be His Last Time © 2006 Bill Robinson ASCAP
Verse Was another night of cheap red wine A night spent beggin’ for nickels and dimes Wipin’ windshields down at Fifth and Main Then into the alley to buy from the man
He crawled in the dumpster he called his home He’d spend another cold damp night alone His old Navy coat was faded and worn Didn’t do much to keep an old man warm
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
verse People would see him and wonder why He kept living this way just waitin’ to die They’d never ask or really want to know What brought this man down so long ago
He’d long forgotten what made him this way The weakness that broke him a little each day He dreamed of a good day somewhere in his past For just a few hours that’s all it would last
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
Bridge The places it takes you are in your mind You’ll only be there for a very short time But then you come down and you’re still all alone
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
Tag He promised himself this would be his last time
This WOULD be his last time

This is a hard task, how do you choose which of your children you like best. Which is my best country song or my best Gospel song. What I like best may not be my best. Well here goes.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=5874277
I’M CLIMBING THAT STAIRWAY
For everyone there’s a stairway that we must learn to climb
Though we may often stumble we’ll make it there in time
Be sure to choose the right one that leads up above
Where we’ll find life eternal surrounded by His love CHORUS
I’m climbing that stairway that beautiful stairway
The stairway that takes a lifetime to climb
I’m climbing that stairway that heavenly stairway
That glories stairway one step at a time
For everyone there’s a stairway and we must make the choice
Choose the steep and narrow one that leads us to Christ
Forsake the wide and easy it’ll lead us astray
So brother I implore you choose the straight and narrow way REPEAT CHORUS
For everyone there’s a stairway but just where will it lead
Will it take us to the cross where our saviour did bleed
Will it lead to destruction when our life is through
There’s a stairway for everyone the choice is up to you REPEAT CHORUS ©Everett Adams 2006(Newsflash Sounds)

Hi all! It's kind of hard to choose from your best song and your own personal favorites. One of my favorites has to be the first song I wrote a long way back in May 2010, LOL. And I would like to contribute to costs whatever the outcome if it helps.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9893179
Sending back your wine and roses. One door opens then it closes. She won’t let you stick your nose in. She won’t do what you’re supposing. See her walking, how she dances. Sends the watching crowd in trances. Which one is the one she fancies. Does she know your circumstances. But she………….. loves me.
She picks up my fallen ego. She’s my shield wherever we go. Like a magnet, will attract you, but she’s not yours to come back to. In the valley of the shadow she will walk the straight and narrow. In loves deep and in its shallows she’s the eagle and the sparrow. And she…………..loves me.
What’s the point in feeling badly? What your after ain’t there sadly. I was there when she was choosing. You were elsewhere. That’s not loosing.
(instrumental)
I see now you’re contemplating could it be she’s hesitating? Is she leaving? Is she staying? Listen to what she is saying Sending back your wine and roses. One door opens then it closes. In loves deep and in its shallows she’s my eagle and my sparrow. And she………………loves me.
(repeat three times)

Hi everyone! I think this was a great idea! I haven't been on this site long but have had a wonderful time collaborating with others. I guess my best song for 2010 would have to be "I'll Be On My Way". I was sent the track by Andy Kemp when I was on another site. I moved on to this site and invited him to join as well. I enjoyed writing the lyrics to an actual track(1st time doing this)but never imagined how it would evolve. I met Tammy through this song as she sang vocals and brought this song to life! Not only did she do an amazing job with the vocals and recording, but she got it played on 2 online radio sites. It made it to no. 8 on the voting chart at Hardcoremix during its airplay. So thanks to my new friends I have to say this was my best. http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5585584
I'll Be On My Way by Jennifer (Jinx) Shaner
© 2010
I feel cold inside despite the heat Feel pleasure, yet pain Love once made me whole I’m now incomplete and broken again
I look in your eyes Which once warmed my soul The fire’s now gone There’s heat in your touch But love is not there It’s time to move on
(prechorus) I must find the strength to run I’m not the type to just have fun
(chorus) Your promises mean nothing now I need to break away somehow Love is what I had but lost Now it’s time to pay I will not stay yours to use I may be hurt, my ego bruised But without love’s the meaning’s lost I’ll now be on my way
An empty touch Can’t fill the holes When love is gone Hiding my pain I act out my roles And try to move on
Ignoring the pain I put on a smile And face each new day I know I was right To push you aside You were just in my way
(prechorus) Within my chest my heart still bleeds I’m dead and yet I live And yet to taste what love can be Again my heart I’d give
(chorus) Your promises mean nothing now I need to break away somehow Love is what I had but lost Now it’s time to pay I will not stay yours to use I may be hurt, my ego bruised But without love’s the meaning’s lost I’ll now be on my way

Hard To Keep Turning The Other
Verse 1: Quick stop, short of time But now he's trapped in the checkout line It's hard to keep turning the other One in front ignores cashier Cell phone stuck to her ear It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 1: Cheek . . . she's unaware She couldn't care for his needs as he broods “You're not alone! Think of me! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other cheek”
Verse 2: Dogs barking night and day Loud, late parties keep him awake It's hard to keep turning the other Appointments never show Left lane drivers way too slow It's hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 2: Cheek . . . they're unaware They couldn't care for his needs as he shouts “You're not alone! Think of me! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other cheek”
Bridge: He's sick of getting stepped on everyday Letting the rude have their selfish way Biting his tongue to avoid an unpleasant scene
Verse 3: Pushed too far, had enough Now nine lie in pools of blood It's hard to keep turning the other SWAT team 'bout to break inside One bullet left . . . To clear his mind It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 3: Cheek . . . they weren't aware They couldn't care 'bout his pain` as he cries “I'm not a brick! I hurt and bleed! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other . . .”

I have a couple of songs that I think are my best. Stylistically, I'm all over the place, so that makes it harder to pick just one. I mean, I have the one that I love that I think would go over best here, and then there is my favorite pure pop song. And then my favorite weirdofreak song. But as I am at JP Folks, I will post the former. It's probably the prettiest thing that I've done: "Come On, Let's Go" 1. Were we lonely? I forget But I can't forget the way you looked The night that we first met
It was Tuesday It was late But not too late to play the flirt Or play the hand of fate
-c- A smile hello Come on, let’s go The bar’s about to close “Here’s a pen, “I’ll call you when…”
2. Were we happy? I forget But I can't forget the words you said When you said it should end
I was happy What did you expect? But I didn’t expect the way I felt When you stayed in my head
-c- The urge to phone Come on, let’s go The show’s about to start “Hey, why not?, Another shot…
-bridge- As much as things were meant to be This was meant to be As much as things were meant to be I’m glad you came to me As much as things were meant to be You were meant for me As much as you were meant for me...
3. Now where are we? How could I forget? We’re on the road, come on, let’s go…

Just kidding.

Well, the weirdofreak thing is really moer about the subject matter rather than the music, itself. But, here it is: "Sheila of the Worms"
If you wanna hear somthing where the music is a bit more freaky, there's another one that I can link you to. But that one is the one that I was referring to.

Just woke up from hibernation three weeks short of Groundhog Day. I'll pick this one since if I wrote it in the 60's it had a chance to be a one-hit wonder.

Ok. Here's one from 1996 that never got passed the demo stage. This was intended as a guy/girl song. The fabulous female vocalist moved away and I never moved ahead with it.
http://www.gymusic.com/audio/MakinItToTheEnd_vocal.mp3
"Makin' It To The End" © 1996 Greg Youngman Music
It seems as though not long ago Something rare began to grow 'tween you and me
And at the time we didn't realize The future held a big surprise For us to see
Remember what we went through? Trying just to be there with a shoulder for the other one to lean on I could depend on you Reassured in knowing there was something we undoubtedly agreed on
CHORUS We're makin' it to the end No matter what we do or say Together you and I will stay as friends Makin' it to the end Whatever might get in the way Together you and I will stay as friends
So now we see what was to be A master plan where you and me are best of friends
And if we look to where we're going to Then maybe we can make it through It just depends
Whatever we're going through Shining like a beacon in a darkened sky you're always there to guide me I can depend on you Confident in knowing there was someone who was always there beside me
CHORUS

This is my best solo-written original song in my opinion. It got me my first single publishing agreement with a Nashville publisher. Listen to it on my profile page music player.
If I Believe Words and Music by Carlos Tabora
http://songwriterspace.com/profile/CarlosTabora
Verse 1 In this world of black and white I try to paint my dream But shades of grey are what I find the world expects to see How I wish for golden times of sweet red kisses on blue moon nights A rainbow made for only me
CHORUS And If I Believe These things my mind can see I’ll have the strength to live a life Worthy of my dream And If I Believe This dream is my destiny There’s no more wonderin’ where my life will lead If I Believe
Verse 2 I know this journey will be long And choices made along the way May change the dream I’ve drawn Colors fade, Lines will blur But if my will is strong and my faith endures There will come a day when my rainbow will soar
CHORUS And If I Believe These things my mind can see I’ll have the strength to live a life Worthy of my dream And If I Believe This dream is God’s plan for me There’s no more wonderin’ where my life will lead If I Believe
Bridge If I Believe My rainy days will soon be gone If I Believe My life shines through the rain like sun
CHORUS And If I Believe These things my mind can see I’ll have the strength to live a life Worthy of my dream And If I Believe This dream is God’s gift to me There’s no more wonderin’ where my life will lead If I Believe

Good thread. Thanks for getting it started Roy.
You know how they say your songs are like your children? Impossible to pick your favorite? They're going to grow up to become just like you someday? Wait, strike that last one.
I'm posting this particular piece because of all the ones I play live, this one gets the most positive feedback - including how I should get it published, etc.
There are no lyrics, aside from whatever you're making up in your head as it is playing. I'm all about music w/out words - that's why you don't see me perusing the lyrics boards.
Released 2009 on my Don't Ever Forget cd.

Hi Roy,
Pretty tough topic. Like all songwriters my personal best changes quite often, but I always seem to go back to this song.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=2719539
THEN COMES THE NIGHT
I go to work each day like nothings changed Our friends just cant believe how strong I am I say that Im OK, sometimes life gets rearranged You have to learn to take it like a man
Then comes the night, and voices start calling Just like the light, my teardrops start falling I completely break down, go to black from white I have my feet on the ground, but then comes the night
We never said goodbye, I turned around and you werent there I could not convince myself at first How in the blinking of an eye I watched our dreams just disappear I only thought that I had felt the worst
Then comes the night, and voices start calling Just like the light, my teardrops start falling I completely break down, go to black from white I have my feet on the ground, but then comes the night I pray to lose this hurt of being left alone With my knees in this dirt and my hands upon your stone
I go to work each day, like nothings changed
