Hi all,
I'm desperate to whip up some kind of demo at home. I have Cubase and can record stuff with the equipment I have and my guitars.
I want to know what software most people on here use to create their backing tracks, ie. drum loops, synth stuff etc.
I have just downloaded Fruity Loops which looks great, but would like input on what else is out there before I buy anything.
I'd appreciated if you could spare a few lines by replying, listing the software you've used and how you rate it out of 5.
Many thanks
Dave

Well, I haven't used any software myself as I just use my trusty Martin or other acoustic guitar. There is a free program called Audicity you can check out. Just Google it.

There are tons of stuff out there....it all depends on your personal pref, DAW, musical style, ability, experience and budget......I use "virtual guitar" amongst other programs and also run Cubase. For drums I use "Addictive" "EZ"and "Superior 2.0" amongs other plugins. Between myself and the pro studio I use we have a huge selection of top end VST plugins, music software and hardware. It is horses for courses and very much a personal thing......but you cannot go wrong with any of the above progs to start off. That said it is a steep learning curve for a beginner and quite a financial investment. Fruity is OK for basic needs and Band in a box is pretty user friendly for basic demos. I would concentrate on mastering the basics first then expanding onto the more complicated and expensive top end stuff which tend to be specialist user specific.

Please, do yourself a favor and check out STYLUS RMX, from spectrasonics. I have cubase 6 and own all 3 of their products. One for percussion, Bass and and amazing synth all working together.......Best of luck.. spectrasonics.net is their site.
