If you think they are, have you entered the JPF lyrics contest? If not, why not?
So far, less than 100 lyrics have been entered. Brian feels (and I agree) that there need to be at least 250 different parties entering lyrics for the contest to be held. It seems odd that over 42,000 think their CDs are good enough to be considered for awards but less than 100 think their lyrics are any good. I guess over 41,900 of those CDs must have songs with lousy lyrics.

Dunno WHY Lyrics seem to be SO Underrated..even by the Folks that SING 'Em lately...
But..just need about 150 more Folks to BE "All in This Together" & away ya go!

Just seems it's taking one part of a song. Going by that, there should be melody contests, and chord progression contests. Why just one aspect of the main three ingredients of a song? They're not poems, right? (Stand alone works).
I think that is why some people who enter "songs" would consider their lyrics are already being considered.

SINCE I play Zero Instruments...And currently have a Zero Recording Budget..And pen Lyrics like a Bandit on a Regular Basis..it's kinda NICE to have SOMETHING to compete with The Others in Similar Straits. You Musicos get 12-14 Shots at "A Winner" with Each CD ya enter.
Please do not begrudge us Lyricists our ONE Entry Per Awards Show Competition.

Was wondering if there is anyway to make it more clear that the deadline has been extended...Like big,red capital letters in rules thread or something.....

The deadline had been extended. So far, Brian has said the contest will be open until there are at least 250 entries, though obviously he will have to close the contest at least a few weeks before the awards show so the lyrics can be judged. Time is running out.

Well, I went and entered some lyrics. Thank you, to the folks who pointed out that it wasn't closed yet. All I did was read the first post in the thread which specified the June 15 deadline - I didn't go hunting for the info any other place.

Actually, I've entered a lyric, despite that I don't think my lyrics in general are any good. Very few are, but fact is that I have a hard time determining which ones are good, so I'd better enter one to find out ;-)

That was quick. Brian already closed the contest as of the end of the day July 5. Time is needed to judge the lyrics. Only about 140 ended being entered, though Brian has said he needed to clean up the list for duplicate entries and superfluous posts and I don't know if this count is before or after he has done that.
I hope you got a chance to enter!

I got one submitted. I think my song is strong, but when you separate the lyrics, they really lose something. Oh well.

I also got one submitted called "Death Harvest (pg 3). It's actually a co-write with my nephew Ben Tiptonford. I think it's a strong entry and hope it helps to represent our chapter.
