2009 Just Plain Folks Best Lyric Award
---------------------------------------------
Hi Folks,

We are still going to move forward with this category and we'll be using a selection of Peer Judges, Fans and Industry folks as well as JPF Staff Volunteers who aren't entered, to help choose this year's nominees. We will announce those nominees the same time we announce the Video Nominations prior to the awards in August. The winners will be announced live at the awards show with all the other categories.

Thanks to everyone for their patience during this process. We are cutting off all entries at the end of the day Sunday, July 5th.

We'll post the nominees onces we have them for final voting to choose the winner.

Thanks to all who have participated! Good luck to everyone!

The Man That Isn’t There
(copyright 2007) Carrie Landsgaard

Vs:
I’m sittin’ at your table,
Standing in your shop,
Don’t ever ask about me,
I’m the man that time forgot.

Friendly with your daughter,
Share my sugar too,
Don’t ever try to find me,
I will come to you.

Pre Chorus: oh, oh, oh, oh.

Chorus:
The man that isn’t there,
Wears me like a shadow,
And you’d best beware,
The day he turns,
The man that isn’t there,
Smiles, always cares
The day may come for you to run
From the man that isn’t there.

Vs:
You may never notice,
Through the friendly talk,
The smile so familiar
Is feral as a hawk,

And daily you may love me,
Never feel the knock,
The missing hollow feeling
From the man that time forgot,

Release:
Feel shattered, scattered, don’t look down.

prechorus:
Chorus:

I Dreamed Copyright Renata Sajko and John Dabbs 2008 from Hidden Gems Released 2008

Verse
I dreamed, I dreamed of you today
You hadn't gone away
I felt the soft sea air
Your fingers through my hair

We danced throught the night
And held each other tight
You softly kissed my lips
Caressed my fingertips

And I know, you had to go
Now you're with me, in my reverie

Chorus
No one could see
What the future would be
That fate wouldn't let you stay
Leave me dreaming day to day

Verse
Each day I wish that you were near
In dreams you're always here
Just like you were before
I couldn't wish for more

And if I could never wake
My heart would stop its ache
Once more I'd hold your hand
I'm sure you understand

And I know, you had to go
Now you're here with me, in my reverie
In my, in my reverie

"Turn It Around," by Din Within
Writers: Mark Gollihur/Josh Sager
From "Awaken the Man," released Nov 2007

Passing by the same old faces
Taking their lives through the routine paces
While the blue-blood sons of the fortunate ones get high
Stepford wives with saccharine graces
Hide behind white-picket pretenses
As their Good Ol' Boys consume every piece of the pie

Why waste another day? (nothing changes)
We've let them take so much away (we're cheering)
As the gray men in suits march on

American sheiks get compulsory tax,
While the governments fleece every thread off our backs
And leave us content with our hopes and our lottery dreams
For all that the rich little heiresses know
My life makes a real good reality show
But this is The Real World, and The Simple Life ain't what it seems

Why waste another day? (nothing changes)
We've let them take so much away (we're cheering)
As the gray men in suits march on to claim their victory (so deceiving)
We watched it play out on TV (they're sneering)

Playing the game by a different rule book
You scapegoat and run with the money you took from the middle class
to feed your lapdogs and sycophants
Who needs the law when the big man's on your side?
Is he speaking to you when you put aside the will of the people?
The view must be nice from the West Wing steeple.

Turn it around...

"How Big" by Eric Herman
From the album What a Ride! (2009)
Lyrics by Eric Herman Endres and Roseann Endres
Copyright 2007

There's an itty bitty bug
who lives on the back of a tiny bug
Who lives on the back of a little bug
Who lives on a hollowed out log

The log lives on the edge of some woods
on the edge of a pond
And near the edge of the pond lives
a little bug eatin' frog

The itty bitty bug thinks what he sees is everything
He doesn't know that really, he's so very small
What's in his eyes is what he sees
so the itty bitty bug will say-
"How big is my world, how big is my life, how big is it all"

There's a girl who lives on a planet
that lives near a star that lives
in a galaxy where lives a hundred billion other stars

The galaxy lives in a universe
with billions of galaxies
And the universe lives... well, we can't see that far

The girl on the planet thinks what she sees is everything
She doesn't know that really, she's so very small
What's in her eyes is what she sees
so the girl on the planet will say-
"How big is my world, how big is my life, how big is it all"

And a universe might be inside a tiny speck of dust
Big and small both go to the extreme
So whether you're an itty bitty bug
or a kid in a galaxy
Your life is always as big as you dream

How big is my life? How big is it all?

How big is my world, how big is my life, how big is it all... (repeat through fade out)

RHAPSODY FROM SIXTH AVENUE

The Empire Diner is located just off Times Square
Not far from Manny’s Music and The Radio Shack
Chilling out with Joe Buck and Ratso on a Downtown train
Grooving in a movie as you cruise along the tracks
The one armed barber has a shop on Broadway
With his scissors and his combs
And a chair that tilts back
A late night snack at The Carnegie Deli
With a sandwich that is stacked
Turn out the light and hit the sack

“Visions Of Cody”,“On The Road” with Neal Cassidy
There must be a shrine somewhere in Denver
Jack Kerouac likes to drink at The Colburn Hotel
In Charlie Browns Bar & Grill
Later he hangs out in some dive and jive on Larimer
With a waitress named Sizzling Ruth
They drove all the way down to Mexico City
On a single tank of gas
And then they fell asleep in the back
While the jockey and his racehorse
Wore wreaths of flowers around their necks
And placed bets out at the track

You can close your eyes and look at everything you are remembering
Or get froze to the bone by the air-conditioning
Everything you see is incredibly fancy
Yeah, it‘s like Liberace riding in a Filipino taxi
Some real gone cat blows a wild solo
On his tenor saxophone
And he wears a moonlight tuxedo
Hey, how about a drink
A freezing martini with diamonds in the glass
So your first sip won’t be your last

Wisdom of A Sage

Down around the corner
A man he waits for me
A prophet from the old days
With the wisdom of a sage
It was a cold dark night
When we first met
The moon it filled the sky
I'll never forget the words he said
As he looked me in the eye

He said boy, you look troubled
I know what's on your mind
Been walking in circles
All your life
Your whole life you've been blind
The past it tells the story
Of who you are today
If you want to change
Who you become
Listen to what I say

Each man's life's a journey
A challenge for his soul
When you learn to accept yourself
Your being will be whole
Have love for your brothers
Treat them as your own
Make your presence a blessing
Wherever you may roam

Thunder roared in the distance
And lightning flashed in the sky
As he handed me my destiny
I looked him in the eye
Sir, I believe your story
I know that you are wise
I know that I can't change the past
But I can change my life
If I love myself and others
I know when I leave this life
My never ending story
Began right here tonight

[V1.]
Starry-eyed and out-of-mind
We all tend to begin
Flowing fully and freely
Just as fast as we can
Like rivers, like oceans
Like to swallow the shore
Once we get us a taste
We just want to have more

[V2.]
'Cause love has a power
No one wants to deny
If there's even a chance,
Don't you let it slip by
Unless you're willing to fight
All the would-have-beens
Like dragons and demons
Dancing 'round inside your head, singin'

[Ch.]
What does it mean, to really be free?
What does it mean, to really be free?

[V3.]
She said, "I'll chase this love down
'Til it can't get away
From me, this time will be better, babe
Just you wait and see"
Well, I've heard it before, and
I'll hear it some more
Until you figure it out, and
That's all that I know, and

[Ch.]
What does it mean, to really be free?
What does it mean, to really be free?

[Br.]
Is it the choices we make,
Or the steps that we take?
Is it all just predetermined,
Every flinch and mistake?
And what is control?

'Cause I'm flying by
The seat of my pants,
And I don't expect an answer, God,
But I just thought I'd ask,
'Cause I don't know...
'Cause I don't know...oh...

[V4.]
And I'll give you my heart if
You promise to take
Only just what you need and
You don't let it break
Or if you fill it with love more
Than you fill it with grief
Or if you know the answer to
This question for me, of

[Ch.]
What does it mean, to really be free?
What does it mean, to really be free?

I said, what does it mean, to really be free?
What does it mean, to really be free?

[Br. Reprise/End]
Is it the choices we make,
Or the steps that we take?
Is it all just predetermined,
Every flinch and mistake?

And if we take it all back,
Can we just start again?
Learn a lesson in forgiveness...
Or should it just be the end?

"What’s genocide?" Copyright 2005-2009 Carlos Andrés Gómez

their high school principal told me
I couldn’t teach poetry with profanity
so I asked my students,
Raise your hand if you’ve heard of the Holocaust.
in unison, their arms rose up like poisonous gas
then straightened out like an SS infantry
Okay. Please put your hands down.
Now raise your hand if you’ve heard of the Rwandan genocide.
blank stares mixed with curious ignorance
a quivering hand out of the crowd halfway raised,
like a lone survivor struggling to stand up in Kigali
Luz, are you sure about that?
No.
That’s what I thought.

Carlos – what’s genocide?

they won’t let you hear the truth at school
if a person says [naughty word removed]
can’t even talk about [naughty word removed] even though
a third of your senior class is pregnant

I can’t teach an 18 year-old girl in a public school
how to use a condom that will save her life
and that of the orphan she will be
forced to give to the foster care system –
Carlos, how many 13 year-olds do you know that are HIV positive?

Honestly, none. But I do visit a shelter every Monday and talk with
six 12 year-old girls with diagnosed AIDS.
while 4th graders three blocks away give little boys blowjobs during recess
I met an 11 year-old gang member in the south Bronx who carries
a semi-automatic weapon to study hall so he can make it home
and you want me to censor my language

Carlos, what’s genocide?

Your books leave out Emmett Till and Medgar Evers
call themselves World History and don’t mention
King Leopold or diamond mines call themselves
Politics in the Modern World and don’t mention Apartheid

Carlos, what’s genocide?

you wonder why children hide in adult bodies
lie under light-color-eyed contact lenses learn
to fetishize the size of their ass and simultaneously
hate their lips my students thought Che Guevara
was a rapper from East Harlem still think
my Mumia t-shirt is of Bob Marley how can
literacy not include Phyllis Wheatley?
schools were built in the shadows of ghosts
filtered through incest and grinding teeth
molded under veils of extravagant ritual

Carlos, what’s genocide?

Roselyn, how old was she? ¿Cuántos años tuvo tu madre cuando se murió?

My mother had 32 years when she died. Ella era bellísima.

…what’s genocide?

they’ve moved on from sterilizing Boriqua women
injecting indigenous sisters with Hepatitis B, now
they just kill mothers with silent poison stain
their loyalty and love into veins and suffocate them

...what’s genocide?

Ridwan’s father hung himself in the box
because he thought his son was ashamed him

...what’s genocide?

Maureen’s mother gave her skin
lightening cream the day before she started the 6th grade

...what’s genocide?

she carves straight lines into her beautiful brown
thighs so she can remember what it feels like to heal

...what’s genocide?
...what’s genocide?

Carlos, what’s genocide?

Luz, this…
this right here…

is genocide.

Pay The Band

ME AND BILLY WHITE THOUGHT WE WERE CLEVER

WE SNUCK OUT AND TOOK HIS OLD MAN'S TRUCK

WE WERE CRUISING ROUND THE TOWN

TILL A TROOPER FLAGGED US DOWN

WE REALIZED WE’D FLAT RUN OUT OF LUCK

DADDY PICKED ME UP DOWN AT THE STATION

THE LONG RIDE HOME WAS MORE THAN I COULD STAND

WHEN HE TOOK OFF HIS BELT HIS WORDS WERE DEEPLY FELT

HE SAID IF YOUR GONNA DANCE YOU’VE GOTTA PAY THE BAND

CHORUS
AND I SWORE I’D LEARNED MY LESSON

CAUSE MY DADDY MADE A DEEP IMPRESSION

IN A WAY THAT I COULD TRULY UNDERSTAND

IF YOUR GONNA DANCE YOU’VE GOTTA PAY THE BAND

2ND
BECKY AMES KISSED ME AT THE DRIVE INN MOVIE

WE MOVED TO THE BACK SEAT AND KISSED SOME MORE

A FEW MONTHS LATER BECKY AND HER DAD

CAME AROUND KNOCKIN’ ON MY FRONT DOOR

AS FAR AS DADDY WAS CONCERNED THERE NEVER WAS A QUESTION

I WAS GONNA HAVE TO TAKE HER HAND

ALL I COULD DO WAS PRAY, WHEN I HEARD DADDY SAY

IF YOUR GONNA DANCE YOU’VE GOTTA PAY THE BAND

3RD
TO EVERYONE’S SURPRISE ME AND BECKY MADE IT

OUR SON BILLY’S WAY TOO MUCH LIKE ME

HE WANTS TO QUIT SCHOOL AND GET A TATTOO

HE’S ABOUT AS WILD AS A BOY CAN BE

LAST NIGHT I PICKED HIM UP AT THE STATION

I LOOKED HIM IN THE EYES AND SAID I UNDERSTAND

BUT I’LL TELL YOU LIKE MY DADDY TOLD ME

IF YOUR GONNA DANCE YOU’VE GOTTA PAY THE BAND

CHORUS
AND HE SWORE HE’D LEARNED HIS LESSON
I HOPE I MADE A DEEP IMPRESSION
IN A WAY THAT HE COULD TRULY UNDERSTAND
IF YOUR GONNA DANCE YOU’VE GOTTA PAY THE BAND

There Ain't No Such Thing (c) 3/09 Robert Coates

Take a look at your day
They're all the same
Because you're afraid
of livin today

There ain't no such thing as yesterday
There ain't no such thing as tomorrow

All the joy we've lost
Chasing gold and silver
It's time forever gone
Floated down the river

There ain't no such thing as yesterday
There ain't no such thing as tomorrow

There's a thief that lives
In the back of your mind
With the future and past
He'll rob you blind

There ain't no such thing as yesterday
There ain't no such thing as tomorrow

"Going in the Other Direction"

VERSE I
High School reunion, my how everyone had changed.
Ran into you, Jim, didn't recognize your face.
Eyes were the same, but your name tag said "Jane?"

"Something's different," I confessed, guess it should be obvious.
Said, "Don't tell me yet," are those really your breasts?

CHORUS
He was Jim, but now she's Jane. What of our Prom King remains?
Know it's rude. I shouldn't stare. Finally focused on his beard.
I don't care what people say... Men with breasts should always shave.

VERSE II
Now, since we're talkin', saw a woman in the park.
She was out walkin', all alone and in the dark.
Heavenly hips, but what's that on her lip?
As I got closer to her back, it became apparent that
her hips of a Diva had the shoulders of a quarterback!

CHORUS II
She was Jane, but now he's Jim. Guess her breasts don't bother him.
Know it's rude. I shouldn't stare, but somethin' bout this wasn't clear.
Would she become the man in question, or was he going in the other direction?

BRIDGE
Guys becomin' girls. Girls becomin' guys. Who am I to question why?
Nosy I suppose, all I wanna' know is which way were you trying to go?

VERSE III
Was she woman? Was he man? Shaven chest or too much tan?
His shoulders, her hips? Mustache on her lips!

CHORUS II
She was Jane, but now he's Jim. Guess her breasts don't bother him.
Know it's rude. I shouldn't stare, but somethin' bout this wasn't clear.
Would she become the man in question, or was he going in the other direction?

THE WORLD DON'T STOP

Oh the times are tougher.....and the days go fast.

If you feel you have a good thing,...then it doesn't last.

When you see the sun is shining, the clouds start rolling in.

And you never give up trying. But it seems....you never win.

How do you handle it? Is there a clue?

Yes the world don't stop.....when it's raining....on you.

(Slow Rock 72 bpm)

So you've been cheated. Well I have too.

I know just what it feels like.....to be sad and blue.

You didn't make the grade because you didn't get the breaks.

And you got the wrong result because you made the right mistakes.

But should you quit now, since it is true

That the world don't stop.....when it's raining....on you?

You've got places to go - things to do.

And though the sun shall shine, ......you'll get wet too.

So when times get tougher. And the days go fast.

And though it doesn't seem so. It all will pass.

When troubles knock you down, you need to get back up again.

And if you don't stop trying, sometimes.....you're gonna win.

So this thought, I shall leave you. And you know it's true

That the world don't stop......when it's raining....

Oh when it's raining.....on you.

SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS MORNING
(Christiann Adams -- Copyright 2009)

The fire crackles, the kettle whistles
Slippers scuffle down the stairs
Wrapping paper rips while coffee drips
Kids are kissing teddy bears

Can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning
Echoing love throughout the land?
Listen to church bells ring
Praising the King
Oh-oh-oh can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning?

A silent snowfall, a Grandma phone call
Cameras click a symphony
On this dawn of day the carols play
Burning joy to memory

Can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning
Echoing love throughout the land?
Listen to church bells ring
Praising the King
Oh-oh-oh can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning?

Come sing along with the choir
Raising the harmony higher

Can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning
Echoing love throughout the land?
Listen to church bells ring
Praising the King
Oh can you hear the sounds?
Can you hear the sounds?
Can you hear the sounds of Christmas morning?
Christmas morning
Christmas morning
Christmas morning

Rochambeau the Painter
Copyright 2008 Colin Ward

Chorus

Rochambeau the painter, painted what he saw

His canvases were lifelike, in peace and times of war

V1

He painted his surroundings, the beauty and the beast,

Ships and hills and churches, 'til he toured the Middle East

There he painted tanks and planes and soldiers by the score

He painted sand and missiles and blood and bombs and gore

He tried to paint the reasons, the things worth fighting for,

He painted mosques and oil wells, but could not find much more,

The people who he painted were often filled with hate

They hated other countries that influenced their fate

Chorus

Rochambeau the painter, painted what he saw

His canvases were lifelike, in peace and times of war

V2

They hated those they envied, whose drums made different sounds

They hated all the infidels who walked on sacred ground

Some enjoyed the killing, religion their excuse,

Others hated civil war, hoping for a truce,

They said if this is freedom, the old ways may be best

So Rochambeau packed up his paints and went back to the west,

There he painted factories that made the bombs and planes,

Portraits of the leaders, who had the most to gain

Bridge

He looked back at his paintings, the images he'd seized,

Muslims, Jews and Christians fighting for their fantasies,

But mostly he saw oil wells and the men who stood to gain,

The portraits of the leaders, who play the high stakes game

V3

Then he went to Cuba, Haiti and Darfur,

But he saw no western troops trying to free the poor

He tried to paint the oil wells but there were none around,

He guessed those troops were only sent to much more fertile ground

Rochambeau the Painter, painted what he saw,

He tried to paint the answer to the Mideast war

He found there was no common ground except the trade in oil,

So he gave up and went back to paint on much more friendly soil

Verse

I've been to London, and I've been to Spain
Seen the Great Wall of China and the wide desert plains
People everywhere who look different than me
Each and every one of them deserves to be free

Chorus

How long?
Will it take for us to build a bridge of faith
So strong,
Someday we all can cross together if we can just
Hold On
I may not have the answer
But I know that love can't be wrong

Verse
Millions of years this ball it has turned
You'd think by now that the lesson was learned
But lately it seems that the world's gone insane
It's time we get on board that peace train again

Chorus
How long?
Will it take for us to build a bridge of faith
So strong,
Someday we all can cross together if we can just
Hold On
I may not have the answer
But I know that love can't be wrong

BRIDGE
Why is it so damn hard for us to get along
Why can't we all just live in peace together
You know the fight's been going on way too long
Keeps going on and on, Yeah, gone on way too long

- SOLO -

Chorus

How long?
Will it take for us to build a bridge of faith
So strong,
Someday we all can cross together if we can just
Hold On
I may not have the answer
But I know that love can't be wrong

Three Guys in a Pickup Truck

Copyright© 2008 by Kennan Zishka

Three guys in a pickup truck
Wearing wrap around glasses
Three guys in a pickup truck
Eyeing every girl that passes

Driving down the city street
Going to take this day for a spin
Ready for who ever they meet
Flowing hair and smooth tan skin

Three guys in a pickup truck
Hauling all the lumber that fits
Three guys in a pickup truck
Flipping every house for profit

Driving through the neighborhood
Going to take this world for a spin
Rebuild it all if they could
The bars would all be built in

Three guys in a pickup truck
The outfield of the softball team
Three guys in a pickup truck
Every knee and elbow stained green

Driving down a county road
Going to take this game for a spin
No matter what the score
They know they’ll always win

Friends since high school
They’ve only got one rule
Don’t ever leave time on idle
For the tank is always half full

Three guys in a pickup truck
Talking and laughing about what’s next
Three guys in a pickup truck
Another day that’s just perfect

"Stupid in Love"
copyright 2009 by Rick Widen from "Tuesdays Robot"

Lets build a house together, you get the mortar,
I'll get the bricks
Then lets watch a movie in the living room,
on your net-flicks
I promise not to try anything too funny
Even though I feel like a springtime bunny

Cause you and me we could get stupid in love,
steal a rainbow from the sky above,
'seems like everybody else is doing it now that we're 17
And since we're 17, we could do a line-dance on the balance beam
I know its kinda stupid, but things aren't always what they seem.

No one could stop me loving you Babe,
cause I rope-a-dope
I'm a Gemini and you're a Libra,
and that's a good horoscope
I like it when you're playing hard to git
You got something going on, and i wanna be part-of-it

Cause you and me we could get stupid in love,
steal a rainbow from the sky above,
'seems like everybody else is doing it now that we're 22
And since we're 22, we should play in the middle of the avenue
I know its kinda stupid, but babe it's what i wanna do

If you gave me the wrong holy grail,
I'd sip the cup
You charge up all my giddies hun,
I cant give it up!
I really wanna hear you play your violin
If I don't they're gonna throw me in the loony bin!

Cause you and me we could get stupid in love,
steal a rainbow from the sky above,
'seems like everybody else is doing it now that we're 24
And since we're 24, we shouldn't think about smart things anymore
I know its kinda stupid, but lets leave the door, -wide open

I'll take you to Sweden where we could start fencing with icicles
Then we could coast out onto a frozen lake, riding bicycles!
I'll take you all the way to Jupiter
while our love keeps getting stupider
"Stupid in Love" is what i want to be, with you

Cause you and me we could get stupid in love,
steal a rainbow from the sky above,
'seems like everybody else is doing it now that we're gonna be 30 some day,
Since we're gonna be 30 some day,
we might as well take a few rolls in the hay
I know its kinda stupid, but we should do it anyway

If you think some day that i might leave you hanging
baby no i wont
If you're worried that I'll find out that you're not who I think you are,
don't.
Don't worry!
Cause we might not know everything about each other
But that don't matter while I'm singing you another
Singing, another stupid song, just for you

Your House

by Fran Lucci
contact: mandays@aol.com

Your house it stands tall and proud on the street
The others are small in comparison
The grass it grows lush like the mustache you wear
And the leaves turn as gold as the gold in your hair

You started your house a few years ago
When I wished to be more than just some girl you know
You dreamed of the beams that would anchor the walls
And I dreamed about those nights when we'd dance through the halls

Well it took me awhile to find me again
After all your house it meant everything then
It took me awhile to find me again
After all your house it was all I was then

Your house it went up like a jet in the night
And I stood there still in amazement
And watched from the dock as the dust filled the air
As you pounded on those planks with a hammer and nail

And just when I thought it was time to move in
Your house it closed up with a chill from the wind
The blond at the door said you'd gone to the gym
And I just stood there like a jerk in the dirt looking in

Chorus

Your Dad says your house it might finally be done
Since you added that room with the spa just for fun
And the steel set of stairs that took a lift and a crane
And thirty some men just to get it through the frame

The stairs in your house they lead up to that room
Where you sit up all night by the light of the moon
And stare at the beams that now anchor the walls
And wish I were with you to dance through the halls

Well it took you awhile to find me again
After all your house it meant everything then
Yes it took you awhile to find me again
After all your house it was all you were then
It took you awhile to find me again
After all your house it was all you were all I was
All we were then

Our house it stands tall and proud on the street
The others are small in comparison

The Graveyard of Songs

For every song that’s written there’s a thousand thrown away
They catch a passing breeze and off they fly
They spin and shimmer hopefully, some lucky ones are found
But most are left to shrivel up and die

In the graveyard of songs
Where the orphan tune belongs
And abandoned melodies are laid to rest
What we write is often wrong
Some are weak and some are strong
And sometimes, at our worst, we’ll send our best
To the graveyard of songs
The graveyard of songs

When my restless heart goes roaming through its misbegotten dreams
In search of some forgotten sweet refrain
If the minutes turn to hours till the night devours the day
I’ll give up the ghost and leave it to remain

In the graveyard of songs
Where the orphan tune belongs
And abandoned melodies are laid to rest
What we write is often wrong
Some are weak and some are strong
Sometimes we even send our very best
To the graveyard of songs
The graveyard of songs

I can fish that flowing river
Feel my line rise and shiver
Yet never hook the songs I used to play
But my battered old guitar
Knows exactly where they are
It trembles when I let them slip away

To the graveyard of songs
Where the orphan tune belongs
And abandoned melodies are laid to rest
What we write is often wrong
Some are weak and some are strong
And sometimes we commend our very best
To the graveyard of songs
The graveyard of songs

Dreading Sunset

When a man loves a woman like you
And it comes to the bitter end
I insist that I’m not really blue
But inside there’s no need to pretend
’Cause I’m dreading sunset, oh, dreading sunset

When the day slowly comes to an end (Yes it does)
And it hits me that you’re gone for sure
Then I know this lonely heart won’t mend
The loss is too hard to endure
So I’m dreading sunset, oh, dreading sunset

Bridge
When the night comes the memories flood in
I lie in bed all alone and I cry
I wait to heal, but my patience’s running thin
I can’t forget you, so why bother to try?

Every minute of every day
Well, I’ve tried to find the way
To survive when the sun’s going down
But I end up night after night
Just dreading sunset, oh, dreading sunset

Tag
This heartache hangs around
And I’m just broken down
Don’t want to spend one more day
Oh, Dreading sunset Oh dreading sunset, oh no, dreading sunset
Oh no, no, no

DIRT ROAD

Maggie watches her kids sleeping
And Maggie looks up at the moon
Looks over her shoulder at years made her older
Knows her clock is stuck at high noon
Looks at her man there beside her
Telling her something 'bout his day
What he don't know
She stopped listenin' an hour ago
But lord if she doesn't smile anyway

[Chorus]

'Cause she's got a dirt road
Running through her soul
Takes her all the way back
To the truest life she knows
Only thing that saves her
Is that road that takes her there
The dirt road running
Through her soul

There once was an artist who loved Maggie
That year she lived in Santa Fe
He drew her once and painted her twice
Would again, if she would only stay
But she kissed him twice at the station
Said baby this is what I gotta do
Now she misses him the most
When she smells rain and smoke
And wonders does he ever miss her, too

(Chorus)

Oh, she's got a dirt road
Running through her soul
Takes her all the way back
To the truest life she knows
Only thing that saves her
Is that road that takes her there
The dirt road running
Through her soul

And Maggie, oh she can't help thinking
How the years they drag by so fast
How these days he looks right through her
Now that half her future's in the past
If you ask her, Maggie couldn't tell you
Why she's buying drinks for her fears
Just one more round
Will put her hope in the ground
Oh, but it's been heading there for years

(Chorus)

She's got a dirt road
Running through her soul
Takes her all the way back
To the truest life she knows
Only thing that saves her
Is that road that takes her there
The dirt road running
Through her soul

I USED TO BE SIX FOOT TWO
(HAD A IOT OF FUN AIONG THE WAY)
CopyrIght©2009 by D.J. DeRenzo

I used to be a handsome man, I used to be sIx foot two,
I had a head fuII of Iong dark wavy brown haIr
I was the very defInItIon of cooI.

But when I Iooked In to the mIrror just the other day
I saw a stranger IookIn’ back at me
My haIr had headed north and my chest had headed south
And now I’m onIy fIve foot three!

(chorus)
But that’s okay, I’ve had a Iot of fun aIong the way,
And I’m aII rIght, cause’ I’m puttIn’ up a heIIuva fIght
And when the man comes to get me, I want hIm to know
I’II be kIckIn’ and screamIn’ when It’s my tIme to go
But that’s okay, cause’ I’ve had a Iot of fun aIong the way

I aIways IIked the IadIes, and the IadIes they feIt the same,
They wouId ask me for my number, I was a master at the IovIn’ game
But now when I see those pretty young thIngs, so IoveIy and so sweet,
The onIy thIng they seem to want ask me now Is can they heIp me cross the street

I couId charm a gIrI rIght Into breakfast just by sIngIn’ her a IIttIe Iove song,
Now It takes me aII nIght just to do one tIme what I used to do aII nIght Iong.
I used to thInk about IovIn’ aII the tIme, man I was one studIy dude,
But nowadays my prIorItIes have changed, now aII I seem to thInk about Is food!

(brIdge)
I don’t want anybody feeIIn’ sorry for me,
my IIfe has had a Iot of styIe
I got a good-IovIn’ woman stIII standIn’ by me
And my kIds even caII every once In a whIIe

So If you see me In my gray marquIs and I’m drIvIn’ just a IIttIe too sIow
Or If you get behInd me In the check out IIne havIng troubIe countIng out my dough,
Just be a IIttIe patIent before you go wIId and start cursIn’ out the aarp
Cause’ wIth a IIttIe bIt of tIme and a IIttIe bIt of Iuck, you’II end up just IIke me.

But that’s okay If you have a Iot of fun aIong the way
And It’s aII rIght, just keep puttIn’ up a heIIuva fIght
And when the man comes to get you , you gotta let him know,
You’II be kIckIn’ and screamIn’ when It’s your tIme to go
But that’s okay, just have a Iot of fun aIong the way

Yeah I’m okay, cause’ I’ve had a Iot of fun aIong the way.
It's okay, I've had a lot of fun along the way.

NO REGRETS

Laid back days and childhood play
Birthday parties; holidays
I was poor but i gained much more,
I realized one day.
Time moved on, through teenage years.
I blinked and held my heated tears.
So many answers were not clear.
At times I lost my way.

(chorus) My life goes on with NO REGRETS
The blues, bad news I will forget.
I photographed my memories
I'm feeling grateful and at ease.

Graduate and celebrate.
Throw my cap with my classmates.
I hope my mind will somehow find,
The meaning of this day.
The fears come on; we all grow up.
Long college nights and pick me ups.
I have my doubts of who I trust.
The doubts show on my face.

(repeat chorus)

Full of grace with wedding lace.
Will we last; only time can say.
We dance ahead while waiting for-
Our wishing well bouquet.
Now our love has stood the test.
I am happy; I am blessed.
Life does change: I get restless.
Sometimes I have to pray.

(repeat chorus)

If I Pen a Masterpiece

I can paint a bubbling fountain,
Mold the canyons of a mountain
With the rhythm of a simple line
Violet moons…the sun and Venus,
I have touched them with the freeness
Of a man who wanders verse and rhyme

But as yet I can’t uncover
Phrases that describe a lover
With all my tomorrows in her hand
Looking back on all I’ve written
I can find your beauty hidden
In each rhyme about forever’s plan

Someday I will write a song, for a love that will not cease
I will name it after you, if I pen a masterpiece

And when doubts have robbed my spirit
In the darkness I can hear it
Somehow when you hold me silently
And when life seems cruel and lawless
Even songs provide no solace
You can find the words to comfort me

And I’ve tried to see each daisy
Ev’ry river running lazy
In a light that’s soft and lyrical
When I feel the warmth within you
Know, my love, that I’ll continue
Trying to describe a miracle

Someday I will write a song, for a love that will not cease
I will name it after you, if I pen a masterpiece

And for a man so small
What I need most of all
Is for someone to believe in me
You’ve helped me understand
That heaven’s open hand
Blesses ev’ry sparrow…even me

Someday I will write a song, for a love that will not cease
I will name it after you, if I pen a masterpiece

This Bottle And My Mind
© 2009 Greg Swartzentruber

His naked, empty bottle sat with him at this old bar
Not twenty feet from me but plenty miles too far
His troubled, distant stare told a tale I had to hear
Laid my money down, barman stood another beer

I grabbed a seat beside him in the dark and dreary space
Strained to read the story in the lines upon his face
Wads of his beer’s label were scattered in the dew
His head never turned but he said “You wonder too?”

The girl here on this label
Looks like my Susanne
Her eyes cut right thru me
See the truth inside the man
I’ve gotta tear away her memory
One shred at a time
Gotta rip her from this bottle and my mind

He said “I do this everyday, everywhere I go
Got nothin’ else to live for, nothing else to show
I gave her all she needed, but this world ain’t no good
Cuz she’s gone anyway; though I did the best I could

The girl here on this label
Looks like my Susanne
Her eyes cut right thru me
See the truth inside the man
I’ve gotta tear away her memory
One shred at a time
Gotta rip her from this bottle and my mind

Then some guy like you will sit right there and wonder
About the sorrow that I bear, and the burden I am under
But you can never fathom how deep and dark the cave
Of knowing I’m the one who put Susanne in her grave

The girl here on this label
Looks like my Susanne
Her eyes cut right thru me
See the truth inside the man
I’ve gotta tear away her memory
One shred at a time
Gotta rip her from this bottle and my mind

Monster
(c) 2008 Drew Piston

I got a postman for my mama
I got a race horse for my pop
I've lived and died and I've bled inside
But I ain't never spilled a drop

There's a monster in the mirror
Who mimics everything I do
He pisses on my rug and he sells me drugs
And he tells me I'm in love with you

Why can't I steer clear of you
It's a cold dark rain that falls inside my brain
And it won't let no sunshine through

But you're the miller's black-haired daughter
You're a drunken one man band
You're the starboard tack of the Merrimac
And I just want to hold your hand

But I been in the kitchen with Dinah
Sucking on a lemon rind
Well the years grow older and my heart turns colder
While I just bide my time

Why can't I steer clear of you
It's a cold dark rain that falls inside my brain
And it won't let no sunshine through

"White Lightning"
© copyright John Hoffman 2009

me and Steve was watching the still
when some flashing lights come over the hill
they hovered above us way off of the ground
and two little fellas come floating on down
the biggest one said we just got off work
this here's Ernie and my name's Bert
we don't want you boys reporting no crime
and they beamed us aboard along with the shine
Steve said does this run on alcohol
and Ernie said no you fool we drink it is all
then a perfect clone of Marilyn Monroe
poured us a round and giggled here we go

not a cloud in sight
but there's white lightning
white lightning
there's white lightning in the sky tonight

well we musta shot past the speed of light
cause the game on TV weren't 'til Monday night
I said no way they can beat the Jets
Bert turned around and said you want to bet
before I knew it he was setting her down
from the desert we could see the lights of town
he grabbed a remote and quick as a blink
that saucer turned into a limousine
Ernie hit a fireplug with our camouflaged ship
as we made our escape down the Vegas Strip
so the cops was on us lights and siren crying
but Bert hit the clicker and flash bang we was flying

not a cloud in sight
but there's white lightning
white lightning
there's white lightning in the sky tonight

I didn't remember getting home when I woke up on the lawn
I had lipstick on my collar and both my shoes were gone
and right here in my pocket I found what would become
my ticket to riches when the game was done
looking up at the stars I seen a little blue light
as it dipped and dived I just smiled and waved goodbye

not a cloud in sight
but there's white lightning
white lightning
there's white lightning in the sky tonight

Years of drinkin' still I ain't forgot

Long Wait (For A Train That Ain’t Comin’) © 2009 R. Pirone (BMI)

Streets are littered with faithless prayers
Like white crosses ‘long the highway
I look on as they get washed away
Like fallen leaves in the pourin’ rain

I feel hearts are growin’ darker
As dreams’re left out in the cold
‘Cause when hard luck goes lookin’ for a home
It settles in your blood and in your bones

Chorus:
You take a hard look on down the tracks
Miles of wood ties and steel lookin’ back
Not a sign of any line runnin’
And it feels like an awful long wait for a train that ain’t comin’

Middle Eight

Spend all your life in the crosshairs
Pray that each shot is a miss
But some hit their mark; sear clear through to your soul
And burn with the sting of a Judas kiss

Dark clouds slidin’ cross a threat’nin’ sky
All shades of gray and indigo
Been so long since I’ve seen the sun
I wonder where did all the good times go

Chorus

Bridge:
Some say the the truest path to heaven
Runs straight through hell
And the better days
Well they lie just beyond
I looked into the abyss
Said “You can’t take this man”
And the abyss shot back
“Shine on if you can, shine on if you can”

Chorus

The Heart of Tom Wingfield

(c)2009 Shandy Lawson (ASCAP)

It’s quietest just before curtain
The house lights soften to black
A guy in the last row stifles a cough
The director gives me a wink
And I give a wink back

And this moment is mine
As if caught in a jar
While I find the heart
Of Tom Wingfield

My eyes, fixed on the footlights
My feet carry me off to my mark
As I alight from the shelter of the wings
My lines slither and soar
Through the dark

And this moment is mine
As if caught in a jar
While I find the heart
Of Tom Wingfield

"Amarillo Moon ,Big Texas Skies"

She’s my high plains wildflower
a breath of life to see,
a summer day’s cool shower
she’s all I’ll ever need
And when I think about her
it brings a teardrop to my eyes ......that
Amarillo moon hangin over Texas skies

(chorus)
Amarillo moon.... ,big Texas skies
taking me home to my baby tonight
Pandhandle dreams,wantin simple things
longing to hold her close..… and tight....under that
Amarillo moon ,big Texas skies

She’s the sunlight on my face
on a cold winter’s eve
I can hear her voice whisper
thru the cedar trees
There’s rainbows in the canyon
that stretch beyond the skies
and the stars twinklin at night
are my sweet lady’s eyes

(chorus)
Amarillo moon.... ,big Texas skies
taking me home to my baby tonight.
Pandhandle dreams,wantin simple things
longing to hold her close..… and tight....under that
Amarillo moon ,big Texas skies

(bridge)
I’m headed home to my own piece of hea-ven,
I know she’s waitin there for me.....
Just leavin Lubbock on I- twenty sev-en
comin back from Ten-ne-ssee .....…

(chorus)
Amarillo moon.... ,big Texas skies
taking me home to my baby tonight.
Pandhandle dreams,wantin simple things
longing to hold her close..… and tight....under that
Amarillo moon ,big Texas skies (2X at end)

That Old Man [By Douglas Murphy]
(05/07/2009)

(A)
That old man
was a friend of mine.
He taught me so much.
I’d learn to use in time.
Sometimes we’d fish on
blue skied afternoons.
Though that man was old
he was taken much to soon.

(A)
He’d talk of life,
share stories from his past.
On long hot summer days
he’d help those days to pass.
Some quiet nights now,
when crickets never cease.
I think of that old man,
may he rest in peace.

Instrumental / musical Bridge

(A)
That old man
played the violin.
Some nights on our back porch
he’d rest it to his chin.
He’d play the sweetest
saddest song you’d ever hear.
Whenever it was done
we’d both share a tear.

Instrumental / musical Bridge

(A)
His loved his wife,
and he loved me
Cancer took his life,
dying set him free.
My only wish and I
pray that wish comes true.
Is that I live my life,
the way he’d want me to.

(A)
That old man
was my one true friend.
When I lost mom and dad,
grand-pa took me in.
He shaped the man
that I am today.
I loved that old man.
In more ways then I can say.

Goodbye, Carolina
©2007/2009 Greg C. Brown

Highway 40 stretches out in front of me;
I follow, hypnotized, lost to reality.
Have I missed the exit leading north on 95?
It’s always like this for me when I drive.

Back in Wilmington she cried herself to sleep
With the sour taste of promises I couldn’t keep.
Perhaps she’ll wake up thinking things will all turn out okay;
By then I’ll be two hundred miles away.

CHORUS
And it’s Goodbye, Carolina,
The Tarheel winds are pushing me away.
So here’s to you and all the reasons why.
Perhaps we’ll meet again another day.
But for now, it's Goodbye, Carolina.

I don’t make excuses for the man I am;
If you want the truth I’ll be honest…if I can.
I told her anything I thought she wanted to hear;
Her passion grew with every glass of beer.

And eight months after meeting in that Olde Town bar,
I’d had my fun but then I let it go too far.
So I spoke the truth and knew that it was bound to hurt.
Less than that would only make things worse.

CHORUS
And it’s Goodbye, Carolina,
The Tarheel winds are pushing me away.
So here’s to you and all the reasons why.
Perhaps we’ll meet again another day.
Goodbye, Carolina.

It started with a look and a smile, then a touch,
And for a little while that seemed to be enough.
But feelings have a way of evolving over time,
I didn’t want to lose control of mine.

Highway 40 is ninety-seven miles behind,
Destination now, Virginia’s border line.
I am somewhere in between cold relief and regret.
Another hundred miles and I’ll forget.

CHORUS
And it’s Goodbye, Carolina,
The Tarheel winds are pushing me away.
So here’s to you and all the reasons why.
Perhaps we’ll meet again another day.
But for now, it's Goodbye, Carolina.

Perhaps we'll meet again;
Who's to say?

Chasin' The Rain
================
[Verse 1]
A blanket and the front steps, six o'clock this mornin'.
Coulda stayed in our bed, and listened to the thunder's warnin'.
Saw the light'nin' flash, as the clouds came rollin' in.
Had to hit the road, to chase the rain again.

[Chorus]
Chasin' the rain.
Let you ride out on the wind,
thought the storms would somehow
bring you back again.
When you're back in my arms,
and wash away the pain,
I'll stop chasin' the rain.

[Verse 2]
Sat there on the shoulder, Interstate 65.
Shoulda never told 'er, I would be alright.
Since she flew to Heaven, scattered in the wind,
I listen for the storms, so I can chase the rain again.

[Chorus]
Chasin' the rain.
Let you ride out on the wind,
thought the storms would somehow
bring you back again.
When you're back in my arms,
and wash away the pain,
I'll stop chasin' the rain.

[Bridge]
I could hear the sky a-talkin', as she closed her eyes that day.
But she promised she'd be with me, ev'ry time it rained.

[Chorus]
Chasin' the rain.
Let you ride out on the wind,
thought the storms would somehow
bring you back again.
When you're back in my arms,
and wash away the pain,
I'll stop chasin' the rain.

Seventeen Miles
© 2009 by Barbara G. Prindle

Seventeen miles

Seventeen miles from door to door
It’s not such a long way
Not such a long way

Seventeen miles of streets and stores
A small stretch of highway
Small stretch of highway

And seventeen miles can be seventeen miles
It can easily be much more
Seventeen miles is a long long way
When you don’t know what forgiveness is for

Twenty-four hours from dusk to dusk
It’s not such a long day
Not such a long day
We set to the tasks that are set before us
You do them your way
And I’ll do them my way

And 24 hours can be much less
It can easily turn to much more
24 hours can turn into a lifetime when you don’t know what Forgiveness is for

And I am ready to come home once more...

[bridge]

A few years of laughing
A few years of pain
It’s not such a long shot
you give it your best shot

Lovers always wish they could do it again
But you give it what you’ve got
And you gave it what you’ve got

And what you’ve got can seem like so much less
Now that you see so much more
But what you’ve got is the strange way we’re blessed
When we learn what forgiveness is for

And you are ready to go home once more...

Seventeen miles
Twenty-four hours
A few years of laughing
Few years of pain
Seventeen miles, seventeen miles

Sounds Like the Wind
© 2009 Jonathan DeBoe

I remember long ago,
Words against my skin.
Wisdom wispered soft and low
Sounds like the wind.

Blackbird cries the red sunrise.
World without end.
Willow tree, she sings to me
Sounds like the wind.

Mountains form a thunderstorm.
Day finds an end.
Hurricane, she says my name
Sounds like the wind.

We all run from sun to sun,
Cradle to the shroud.
Gentle blessed with peace and rest.
Pain for the proud.

(bridge)
Ooh ooh. She keeps me.
She keeps me going.
I hear holy voices
When the wind is blowing.

Take away my foolish fears
Before they begin.
Tune my tender ear to hear
Sounds like the wind.

I remember long ago,
Sunlight streaming in.
Wisdom whispered soft and low
Sounds like the wind.

ON THE RUN

On a scale from one to ten Tom was a zero
And his mother was there to remind him the times he forgot
By the time he was 16 he was less than the sum of his virtues
Being mostly aware of a whole lot of things he was not

Tom was a little too short and shy around women
He was in love with a fold-out he kept in the drawer
To his dad he was worthless to his mom just some more dirty linen
He took his first breath the day that he walked out the door

CHORUS:
It’s hard to grow up when you live in a shadow
And the bigger trees take all the sun
He couldn’t grow up as the family disaster
So he learned to grow up on the run, up on the run.

Joyce was born uninvited a pain and a problem
And her father were there to remind her the times she forgot
By the time she was 16 her face and her breasts were her heroes
In backseats with boys she could forget the things she was not

Joyce got into trouble so she went to Cleveland
Tom joined the army and fought hand to hand in the war
He won some medals and learned about love from a waitress
Joyce started working and she learned about love from her child

CHORUS:
It’s hard to grow up when you live in a shadow
And the bigger trees take all the sun
She couldn’t grow up as the family disaster
So she learned to grow up on the run, up on the run.

On a hot August night in an army bar outside of Cleveland
Tom was on furlow and Joyce was on nine until two
They felt like old friends the minute that they started talking
His eyes said, “I know you,” her smile said, “I’ve waited for you”

They talked of beginnings, of losing and winning
And lessons they learned on the run
They grew up crooked together they shook it
In the sunlight they found in the love that they won

CHORUS:
It's hard to grow up.......

SHE STILL CRIES
c.2009 Lori Clevenger

there are flowers pressed inside a frame
sitting on her chairside table
the petals are of blue and yellow
she looks at them when she is able
and she recalls a time and place
the shining eyes, the smiling face
the memories she cant erase
the kind that break her heart

theres a shoebox full of photographs
the corners bent, the colors faded
the eyes look back into her own
expressions seem exaggerated
her fingers brush across their skin
as if theyll come to life again
the pain is in remembering when
then the teardrops start

chorus:
there are nights it all comes back
and she still cries sometimes
wishing she could follow
when it leaves again
the ashes of the bridge she burned
lead back to where shes been
and she tells everyone shes fine
but she still cries sometimes

theres a telephone she cant pick up
a number she cant seem to dial
so she finds something else to do
to keep her busy for a while
but she still hears two laughing voices
above lifes other daily noises
and weeps for life and all the choices
she felt forced to make

chorus:
there are nights it all comes back
and she still cries sometimes
wishing she could follow
when it leaves again
the ashes of the bridge she burned
lead back to where shes been
and she tells everyone shes fine
but she still cries sometimes

she still cries sometimes

That's What Daddy's Do
(Copyright - Jason Bush, Earl Bush Jr)
Writers: Jason Bush & Earl Bush Jr.

She don't know why daddy's gone all the time.
She's too young to see.
But she takes me in while I'm there.
Four years old with a heart of gold.
Innocence at its best.
If she only knew what she means to me.
I just hope she knows that I love her so.
And until my dying day I'll never let her go.

Chorus:
She's walkin'
Yeah she's talkin'
She's a-gettin' around, no body slowin' her down.
She's up with the chickens,
And down with the sun.
Boy that little girl she's a lot of fun.
And if she gets scared,
I'll be there,
To tell her I love you.
That's the way that it is,
Cause that's what daddy's do
That's what daddy's do.

I'm her daddy and will always be.
She's my best friend.
Even though I don't live with her.
I'll be there through the sun and the rain.
Through all the hard times and pain.
Cause she's daddy's little girl.
And just to show how much I really care.
On my life I take this vow and swear.

Chorus:
She's walkin'
Yeah she's talkin'
She's a-gettin' around, no body slowin' her down.
She's up with the chickens,
And down with the sun.
Boy that little girl she's a lot of fun.
And if she gets scared,
I'll be there,
To tell her I love you.
That's the way that it is,
Cause that's what daddy's do
That's what daddy's do.

And if she gets scared,
I'll be there
to tell her I love you
and that's the way that it is
Cause that's what daddy's do
That's what daddy's do

Force of Nature

Chorus:
Like a force of nature,
an act of pure will,
I'm the gathering storm
at the top of your hill.
Like a force of nature
there's no tellin' when,
this storm will come
and hit you again.

You feel it too,
the magnet of desire.
Love is our flame.
We're moths dreaming this fire.
I don't know why
our dreams fall from the sky.
Time cures all,
except for the day you die.

You are the flower.
My words are the hummingbirds.
Love is the word.
There is nothing left but the words.
Where there is will,
there must always be a way.
Sometimes the words
don't really know what they say.

Dramas unfold.
We're actors on life's stage.
You read the script.
Someone else turns the page.
You know right now,
my thoughts are ink in my pen.
We know this storm.
We don't need no weathermen.

This song must come,
an undeniable source.
It rages forth
an irresistible force.
Compelled to play,
never matters what I say.
I am the wind.
I am gonna blow you away.

A Wednesday Type of a Girl
(c) Kevin Emmrich 2008

(v1) She was stuck in the middle
Never left or right
Her emotions were a prairie
No mountain or valley in sight

(v2)It was not long ago
When she took stock of her life
And knew she was missing
Some of the best Saturday nights

(chorus) She was a Wednesday type of girl
Too far from last weekend to remember a thrill
Too far from the next one to get even a chill
But she swears ------ that’s all over
And the time now has come
She’s Looking for her fun
The change to a Saturday girl has begun

(v3)So she changed her hairstyle
Went for bold colors and bright
So maybe those new jeans she bought
Just fit her ---- a little too tight

(v4) She took up dancing and the gym
And met a young man named Bill
He thought her exciting and fresh
He was so happy to have a Saturday girl

(chorus again)

Instrumental Break (chorus)

(Bridge) After many calendar pages have been turned
and grandchildren look at her for guiding words
she looks back at them and smiles
and just says, "Be a Saturday child"

(chorus again)

The change to a Saturday girl has been done ----------

worlds ultimately collide
© 2009 John Voorpostel

a cold wind blows through brooklyn and the cracks in lenny's soul
some crazy love has overwhelmed him left him in a hole
where lenny lived an empty lot grows weeds and not much else
they say lenny's going to heaven 'cause his life was mostly hell

briggins took from everyone except what made them sad
even in the mad house there's no asylum to be had
briggin's been and left behind rows of empty shelves
because he's stealing heaven when it ends he'll live in hell

up is down and down is up
worlds ultimately collide
one day you may be driving
while the next you are the ride
in either case there comes a day
when you must pay the toll
I hope for you all roads are smooth
and all your wheels will roll

manifest your destiny, cloaked thieves and preachers cry
firm passion, citing reason, we all serve the day we die
seize the day and seize the moment, seize all that you can
until the catch up turnaround arrives as always planned

the perfect lotus lives in mud
and contradicts it's beauty such
that we cannot believe it loves its life in there

up is down and down is up
worlds ultimately collide
one day you may be driving
while the next you are the ride
in either case there comes a day
when you must pay the toll
I hope for you all roads are smooth
and all your wheels will roll

IF THERE IS ANYTHING
©2009 words by Chris VonTanner (aka Chris Tanner)

I don’t know what to do
I don’t know what to say
I can’t make this tragedy go way
...but this time
I am going to stay

There is nothing I can do
There is nothing I can say
that could ease your pain
and just take this all away

but I will be here today
if there’s anything,
I’m not going away
for you,
i am going to stay

I can not run
I can not fall
i am facing my fear
just by being here

I am not going away
for you
I will stay

INDIGO SKIES - Written by Michelle McKenzie (c)2009

Vrse 1:
I should have seen it coming
Read the signs along the way
Dont put off til tomorrow now
What you can do today

So I wrote it on a sticky note
And left it on the fridge
Im gonna take the car
And keep on driving
And thats just what I did

Chrs:
Indigo skies will hide my pain
Cos way out here
It never rains
Every day is bright and blue
And Im not even missing you

Indigo skies will protect me
Underneath an Arizona moon
Wrapped up in a blanket of stars above
I wont be coming home
Any time soon

Vrse 2:
Now theres nothing left between us
Cept the road and the sky
And theres nothing left behind me
Only the dust and your lies

My love for you
Was like the sunlight
Blinding my eyes
Its only now I realise
Why I had to say goodbye

Chrs: (rpt)
Indigo skies will hide my pain
Cos way out here
It never rains, etc.

Bridge:
I must have been crazy
To let it go on for so long
But now Im back here in the drivers seat
Back where I belong
(Underneath those indigo skies above
They go on and on and on)

The Dino Dance

by Andrew Karpinski
Copyright 2009 A. Karpinski, BMI, all rights reserved.

Chorus:
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Dance!

Verse 1:
When you get that sudden urge
For a liquid pressure purge
Coming like a tidal surge
Too much coffee, too much tea
Finally catching up with me
Try so hard to be discrete
As I stumble to my feet
If I don't hurry I'll be
Sweating like a rhino, yeah, dancing like a dino

Verse 2:
When you get that sudden urge
For a liquid pressure purge
Coming like a tidal surge
Dizzy, tizzy, where's the door?
I don't wanna wet the floor
Eyeballs floating in my head
Soon be wishing I was dead
'Cause I think I'm already
Sweating like a rhino, yeah, dancing like a dino

Chorus:
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Dance!

Bridge:
I always wait too long
Think I'm, oh, so strong
But I find I quickly break
From one water torture I can't take

Chorus:
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Dance!

Verse 3:
When you get that sudden urge
For a liquid pressure purge
Coming like a tidal surge
Almost there, none too late
Who's this standing in my way?
Boss wants to talk to me?
But this is an emergency!
Can't you see I'm already
Sweating like a rhino, yeah, dancing like a dino
Rhinos don't have sweat glands?
Oh!

Chorus:
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Doing the Dino Dance!
Dance!

Nothings as Beautiful
© 2007 Brenda McBryde/Owen Hovenden

We're living in a world of black and blue
Heartache and pain seem all around
Sometimes it feels so out of control
Then I see you

Chorus:
Nothing's as beautiful as you
You put this music in my soul
All of the noise is now subdued
Cause nothing's as beautiful as you

Lost in a world of modern madness
Spinning around endlessly
Cant see the forest for the trees
Then I see you

Nothing's as beautiful as you
You put this music in my soul
All of the noise is now subdued
'Cause nothing's as beautiful as you

Bridge:
Now you're the centre of my world
Nothing can compare
As all my troubles fade away
Into thin air

Nothing's as beautiful as you
You put this music in my soul
All of the noise is now subdued
'Cause nothing's as beautiful as you

She Can Pull a Rainbow Down
<C> 02/09 David Arthur ASCAP

I chased broken lines up highways
in search of girls with cocaine eyes
I downed shots in the dark, spent nights in a daze
beside neon ghosts from some dream
I wasn't looking for anyone then
just fast times 'neath bright city lights
so I didn't care where she would come from
that she'd be there for me that night

She can pull a rainbow down from the sky
All of my dark skies clear
whenever she's nearby
She can pull a rainbow down from the sky

I never heard the siren's screams
or felt her lips when they found mine
the jolts to my chest, the needles stick me
I didn't know my heart had flatlined
I woke on a cold slab of stainless steel
to a crowd in scrubs gathered there
Then I heard a doctor say "he will heal"
to one smiling girl with brown hair

She can pull a rainbow down from the sky
All of my dark skies clear
whenever she's nearby
She can pull a rainbow down from the sky

I said, "I've got to know your name"
and she said "just someone who cares"
I smiled up at her and she winked at me
and both of us took it from there
Now I'm still chasing broken lines
but I do it as part of a road crew
Today my wife had a baby girl
and I give thanks for both of them too

She can pull a rainbow down from the sky
All of my dark skies clear
whenever she's nearby
She can pull a rainbow down from the sky
