Hi I just hung an art show of some older work in my little town in NH. Not a great deal of people will get to see it l, but I thought that I could share the work with a few more by posting a slide show on youtube. If you take the time to look Thanks a bunch. Best regards. jm well here's a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZjPtxngxw0

Hey, I like those, joice! Portraits were cool but my favorites were the nature works. Nice use of color and shape - gave them a very peaceful feel.
Very cool you had your own show!

Hi Scott
Glad that you could enjoy them. The portraits were somewhat experimental in that I did not ask the sitters to 'pose still' ~ just to work or talk while I worked. I wanted to get the 'essence of the people' not necessarily 'photo like'. I feel they are good representations of each spirit. (imho) ha Thanks for your time and comment. jm

Joice, you have some very nice pieces in that slideshow. Reminiscent of Georgia O'Keefe. My favorites were the abstracts and the nature paintings but I liked the portraits of the guy on the stool and the older lady with the glasses too.

Joice,
Can you post some direct links so some of your work shows directly on this page like some of the other artists do?

Very nice, Joice Marie. A woman of many talents! My favorites were the "naturescapes".

Painting has always been something I wish I could do. I admire the craft so much. I love the roundness of your strokes and your use of color and light. As Scott already pointed out, there is a serene feeling in your work that soothes the spirit. Lovely.

Hi Tricia Thanks a big bunch ! You're kind.... It's actually small here --- it's a full sheet of Stonehenge paper - pastel maybe 22 x28 " ? I like to work big - but then you run out of space to work and store stuff. Hope you have happy travels. jm

Hello Joice, These are quite nice. I cant even draw a swingset, or a stick man. I really enjoyed the beach scene. Something to be very proud of. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Hi Heidi Thanks for your thoughts. Making all those smooth curves is very soothing to do so it makes me happy to hear others get the same feeling looking at them ! Painting is really a series of many skills, but anyone can learn. You should give it a go, if you think that you might like it. Start small. jm

Hi Calvin Thanks so much ! I'm glad that you like them. I could easily teach you to draw - honestly it's another 'practice'. That beach scene has done a lot of soothing work for me- I like it too. jm

Hi Brian
Thanks for the look see....and compliment.... I always feel like I should not try to out do nature - but with realistic paintings it's nice to have them when, like in this case, I do not live right near the ocean. A painting can help bring the ocean to me :-)
The guy is a friend who use to live in VT and his roots are in California- so it's not likely that you know him. His last name is Valentine.
Best regards jm

Hi Kaley You are very sweet to stop and comment. I don't think it was my red barn... I haven't done one that I recall. But I am flattered that you like what I do. Thanks so much. and hugs to you! jm

Thanks so much for sharing your art. You have a real gift. Loved the swan. It was a swan, right? Are any of them for sale?

Hey Joice, Seeing your post today had me looking back at these pictures....and it appeared I never actually POSTED a reply!! How embarassing....especially given that my whole thread about my parents was based on seeing these!! So sorry! But yes, these are lovely. Obviously, I'm partial to the swan...the pov is very unusual. I like it when things are slightly unexpected like that. Do you use any other media besides watercolors? Ciao for now, Beth

Hi Beth Glad that these pieces encouraged you to share your parents work ! Nice that you like the swan... I was stuck on them for a while... done several... Birds in general are an ever loving subject for me. So of the ones here, the green abstract and the beach scene are pastels... the portrait is an acrylic the other portraits in the show are all oils...... I work in any medium pretty much, the subjects tend to draw me towards what it will be.... I think my painting style and strokes tend to be smooth and blended in all mediums though. Anyway, thanks for looking and asking. jm

Wow....see how my "trained eye" picked up the pastels, acrylics and oils among these non-water colors ! I'm going to say that...um...that makes you a VERY good artist, if you can fool the likes of ME (HA HA HA). Have fun!! Beth
