2002 Just Plain Folks Best Lyric Award
We are ready to launch the Best Lyric Award process on the website. If you want to enter, it is free, but you must be a member and registered on the JPFolks.com message boards and follow the guidelines posted there. Here are the simple (on purpose) rules we have set up.
You and your fellow members will do the screening for the nominations. We would do the entire music awards this way if it was realistic to find ways to get you to listen to all 100,000+ songs. But in this case, we expect 100-300 entries, and we should have time and opportunity for members to read the lyrics and pick out their favorites.
The entry dates are as follows:
August 9th-August 31st: This is the window to post your lyric. Each member can post 1 lyric in their name. If it is co-written by multiple members, it will only count against 1 member. (the one posting it.) We will need full names given for each writer. We will request full contact info for each nominee once they are announced.
Sept 1-Sept 21: We will have voting by actual members on their 5 favorite lyrics (in order) via email once the posting/entry deadline passes. Voting will be confidential. The end date on voting will be adjusted if we don't feel we have enough (or already have more than enough) votes from members. But we will give advanced notice if the date is changed.
Nominations will be announced along with the rest of the 2002 Music Awards Nominees. Our goal is the announce the Award nominees shortly after the East Coast Roadtrip October. It is all dependent on getting it done. We'd rather take a little longer to get it right than to rush to meet a deadline. We'll most likely have the Song nominees done before the Album nominees and may post them separately this fall.
Awards: We will announce the Lyric of the Year winner live in January in Los Angeles at our 2002 Music Awards.
This is our first attempt at a Lyric Award in our music awards process. If we are successful in the process, we will make it a permanent part of the Just Plain Folks Music Awards going forward.
If we missed something, or you have questions, please email us here.
DO NOT POST YOUR LYRIC HERE!!!!! POST IT WHERE IT SAYS "POST YOUR LYRIC HERE"

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
