Just wondering what kind of guitar both acoustic and or electric people are playing and or want to be playing when they can afford one?

I currently have two Washburn AE 2000's and love both of them, also have a 1978 Guild D25 that I love as well bot the Washburns are so light while the Guild is abit more bulky.

Note

The only problem I've had with the Washburn's is that the battery slips out of the preamp occasionally and I've had to wrap electrical tape around it to hold it in place. (That's after a guitar shop charged me $100 to tell me they couldn't figure out whay it was cutting out on me.) Other than that they're awesome.

For electric I have a Epi Sheraton II which is a nice guitar but I find my self using my acoustics mainly.

Here is a catalog picture of my 1972 Alvarez/Yairi guitar that I call "Precious" Yairi 5070 and is my favorite sit around and write guitar. My favorite gig guitar right now is my Seagull C12 12 string w/ a built in LR Baggs pickup. For rocking out I'll be playing my 1964 Gibson Melody Maker. Both the Gibson & Yairi have served me well the last 35+ years. I'm always checking out the higher end Taylor & Martins but my wife would kill me if I happened to bring one of those home

I am a pedal steel player but double on six string electric. I have a Gibson Byrdland and a Gretsch 6128 power jet. Both guitars have a nice vibe.

You didn't really specify what style of guitar. So here's my rundown...

Electric 6 & 7 string guitars: Joe's Guitars (custom made guitars, great stuff).

Acoustic Steel String: Taylor (anything they make is fine by me).

Nylon String Electric: Grosh Guitars makes an amazing solid body nylon string guitar.

Classical Acoustic: Alvarez is what I have, but I know there are better ones out there.

I have a Martin D-28 that is 34 years old...very special indeed, with a rich sound and amazing resonance.

I just got a Martin OMC Aura with a Fishman pick up...WOW! LOVE this guitar, too

sounds like some nice machines out there. seems like age wins out over youth- age of the guitar that is. some of really hang on to them for quite some time. I can't beleive there's a pedal steel player in MA. I don't see many country/swing type bands around Central MA, the last pedal steel player I ran into was in NJ last month. I'd love to learn to play one but it looks complicated?

Not familiar with the Byrdland or Joe's guitars...

I like my wife's Takamine Jon Jorgensson a lot, but some day I'd love to have a nice Martin. As much as I'd like to own a Les Paul some day, I'm more of a strat and tele player, so if I won the lottery I'd probably buy a '52 Tele.

Amp wise, I'm really happy with my Dr Z. I miss my Marshall JCM 800 from my rock-band days, so I'd probably get one of those again if I had money to blow.

I don't use a ton of effects, but if money were no object, I'd add a fulltone tape echo. Those are amazing.

The Byrdland came out in 1955 and was one of the first Gibson thinline guitars. It was unique in a couple of aspects. The body was designed similar to the Gibson L5, but obviously thinner. The neck was a shorter scale length of 23.5" to accommodate the complex chord explorations that Billy Byrd (Byrd...) and Hank Garland (...land) were working with at the time. They were experimenting with piano chord voicings with more expanded intervals, as well as saxophone solos that incorporated large interval leaps that were popular particularly in the beebop jazz era.

If you have ever seen Ted Nugent with his guitar you would have seen a Byrdland. He is unique in rock and roll for his exclusive use of a jazz guitar.

I play an old Epiphone that I bought in a pawn shop in 1975 for $65. It needed repair since the top was coming up on one side of the lower bout, so I fixed it. It isn't the best guitar I have ever played, but it sounds pretty good. I have made mods to it over the years and it probably sounds better today than any other similar Epiphone model you will find. Most guitarists are amazed at how good it does sound. I have other electric guitars which I haven't played much in the past few years because I have gotten so into acoustic music, including a Telecaster, an ES345, and Ibanez Artist, and an old Les Paul Junior which was my first electric.

My heart's desire is a Martin 000-28VS or equivalent with the slotted peghead 12 fret to the body neck. To me it is the penultimate design for the steel string acoustic guitar, especially for fingerpickers. There are several boutique builders of this model and I would be happy with one of those. In fact the best sounding ones I think I have ever played were made by Collings. My friend recently bought a Collings of this model that is incredible.

When I describe this guitar I always feel a little like Ralphie describing his coveted Red Ryder 200 shot Range rifle.

wOW! How can I decide. All my guitars are special to me. But to vote for what I think are instruments that you can't go wrong by, would be: Electrics; Fender American made strats and teles, Any Gibson Custom.(kinda partial to Les Pauls). Acoustics; Taylors and Martins. Thats what I think would be the best for the money. There are a lot of other really good guitars out there but, hey , I'm just votin...

I started on my Fender Stratocaster, slept with it, ate with it, took it everywhere with me. That guitar is my child, my lover and my soul all at once. I love my Fender Stratocaster, it has brought me nothing but joy and frustration, and it has created some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

For my style of acoustic playing, I still haven't found anything better than my Taylor 514ce. For classical, it's a bottom of the line nylon string from Sam Ash.

For electric, I use two homemade guitars (mostly) - a swamp ash, deep butterscotch tele with noiseless pickups, and a chrome red strat with vintage v neck, Gilmour pickups, and Kahler vibrato.
I have an assortment of other beasts, anomalies and lapsteels. Just depends on the song and what's needed.

I own a bunch of guitars...but my very favorites are the following...My Taylor 810 (one of the finest acoustic guitars I've ever played). I use this one everytime I'm in the studio.

The other is my '82 Les Paul Standard. I'll never part with these two particular guitars. They both feel like "home" to me.

My fave guitar is my Larrivee - made in Canada - home of fantastic beer and fantastic acoustic guitars. At just under a thousand dollars, it's a fantastic guitar. Played and sounded better to me than the low end Taylors and Martins in the same price range.

I had a girlfriend that had a Martin D-35. I miss that guitar way more than I miss her...
my vote for electric is my Casio Midi Guitar. Besides having a great neck and all kinds of coil tap tone possibles, it will drive any midi device! I'd marry this thing! Uh Oh, don't tell my wife I said that....

I have 4 Ovation guitars ( 2 are considered antiques ) and 2 Takamines. My latest find is a Takamine TF341DLX...with the Cool Tube pre-amp. That one, along with my Ovation model 1995, is my favorite at this time. The Martins and Gibsons don't do anything for me, but, I could own a Taylor or Tacoma one day.

Not that I have had too many guitars.
But I will always love my Martin Sigma Acoustic.
My sixties Harmony Strat has that sound and feel to it too.

Nothing like those first guitars.
I hav'nt moved away from my 1st guitars yet.
I have been more into keyboards.
But I love the guitar in a song.

I discovered Gerard Melancon about five years ago. His high end guitars are incredible and can be bought used for reasonable prices. I own two Melancon Classic Artist electrics and they are the best Strat-type guitars I've ever played. Same league as Suhr guitars.

My 1988 Squier Strat was cheap, even for then ($400).
But it's well-built, with quality parts (back when they were still coming from Japan).
And there's some sorta magic in there.

But as far as just the sound of the instrument across the enrire range of instruments built... you just can't beat that classic Tele sound.

I have a 1990 sunburst PRS EG(H-S-H) and a 2003 Taylor 410.

If money were no object? I would purchase a tele, a strat, a Les Paul or 3(one of which would be that Jimmy Page model with the coil taps), the Pete Townshend SG, a few Ric's and some Gibson and Guild acoustics AND a solid ash Peavey T60 to replace the one that was stolen from me. It was my first electric and I miss it so. I digress, those guitars would keep me busy for a while.

I spread my time pretty evenly between my Strat (a black Standard) and my Gretch (an orange Nashville JR).

I saved up a long time for the Gretch, but it was well worth it.

my other guitars get played every once in a while, but not as often as those two.

I have several guitars. My favorite acoustic is my Epiphone Dove E and my Washburn D10SCE. On the electric side my Squire Fat Strat has a great sound. I also have a Sammick Greg Bennett Les Paul copy, and a Dean acoustical electric jazz STY Deluxe GN.

I have a Yamaha Compass CPX15 that I wouldn't get rid of (again) if I had too. I have owned lots of Taylors (814ce, NS62, 455LTD Koa, 714ce Brazillian Rosewood, 314ce, 710, etc...) and I have found that this Yamaha has a better sound, both plugged and un-plugged than any axe I have ever owned.
As far as the electric goes, I have an ESP Les Paul knock off with Seymour Duncans (think real Les Paul with a faster neck).

Peace!

Thought I'd responded to this earlier, but I guess not.

My J-200 is a clone of the big Gibson, made in Japan; I got it in 1973. I maintain it sounds better than the real thing, and the sound has gotten better with age. It's the guitar I use for everything. Ancient D'Armand soundhole pickup allows me to play (and sound) electric when I want to. Got an airline-proof case 2 years ago when I went to Pineyfest.

I decided when I bought the guitar it was all the guitar I was ever going to need, and that's still the case.

And I have the Strat (also Japanese), that I originally picked out for my daughter and then bought from her a year later. It has just a gig bag and doesn't leave the studio. And I'm still learning how to use it (all them knobs and levers!).

I have a Wechter acoustic/electric and a custom electric with a curly maple top and maple neck.
I get what ever sound I need out of either of these guitars.
I also have an american standard Telecaster that I use at the showcases plugged into my back breaking Twin.
Better a back ache than bad sound!

I also have an American Standard Tele (1990). I like it but hardly play if at all anymore since I got my Gretsch 6196T Country Club over a year ago. I've also have a Rick 330 12 string that I love the sound of but it is not as much fun to play, probably because of the shorter scale and narrow neck (I have short fat fingers for a skinny guy).

Our ex guitarist (recently retired due to ill health) has quite a collection of guitars. He says they are like family you cant pick a favourite.

I've always liked the Martin HD28 acoustic. I used to own one(the story is on another thread). I currently have a Martin DM which I love better than the HD28 which costs half the price new. I never was much of an electric player but I used to like my brothers Sears Mastertone hollow body. That is currently being destroyed by termites. It is too far gone now to be saved, but I think it is a late 50's model. In my southern rock days I played a Les Paul, don't know which model(again a borrowed guitar).

I currently own 3 Washburn guitars with a 4th on order. I find that they have the most bang for the buck for me. They sound nice and don't hrt the wallet tooo bad.

I have:
D52SW (solid wood with wood binding)
D11 (made of mountain ash - my campfire guitar)
J28SDL Jumbo
and I have an HB35 ordered. It is a hollow body electric patterened after the Gibson ES335

My favorite guitar is our Eddie Munnster... it's handmade by a guy in dubuque ia. ( Dave Munn )It has awesome tone!! we always get compliments on how it sounds and how it looks. It has a tapered body which is real cool. Check out http://www.dmunnguitars.com He studied under the fox agency and took it further... Rich from Small Potatoes raves about it.. everytime he sees it.

We now have 2 of his guitars...

I'd have to go with the stratocaster, I've got a MIM strat with Kinman pick ups, very versatile guitar, nice chimey bells with the clean tone through a tube amp, great distortion which isn't too heavy, have mine wired so I can bleed in the neck pup and take some of the brittleness off of the bridge only setting, and of course the famous quack in positions 2 and 4. Also have an old epiphone fat strat which has a kind of cool golden sound on the clean tone, not so playable though. Also own a spanish made classical guitar.
