Yabba dabba doo!
It was great to see everybody at the last one.
Come on back!
I will be there!

Come to the showcase and check out the new JPF banner!

I will be there. Looking forward to it. smile
Aww...gee whiz.... I'll miss seeing the new banner...
I have a gig in Gulfport that day from 2 to 4+
for a meet-n-greet with a newly elected council member.
Jerry. can I get a sneak-peek?
I sent copies of the new banner in everyone's e-mail.
If you didn't get one please let me know.

Hey all,

Banner looks nice! I should be there in person to see it on the 7th....Also thinking about maybe some Horsefeather's action...problem is I'm been solo so long I have to talk myself into it first!

Steve V
So....how about an update on Horsefeathers. SUP?.......
Al
So far Horse Feather's has only one song to do from a songwriter.
We are hoping that some folks will jump in and let us back them.
The sooner we get the MP3's/charts the better.
Steve V;
We don't bite so get out of the chicken coop!

We need a minimum of two weeks notice before the showcase to get your songs done right.
Now is a great time to get your Horse Feather's on!

I just sent the Horsefeathers crew two songs so hopefully we will get them polished and you'll see what your missing. Let's get involved here folks it's time to rock the summer in.

Thanks Al!
Horse Feather's is working on your songs.

Just spoke with Jerry about the showcase on June 7th and all systems are go. Please put this on your calendars and if you can bring a musician friend along as we are dedicated to chapter growth and participation this year. The more folks involved the more resources we have to pull from.

I will be coming with my newly repaired guitar. I put Grover Locking tuners on it. They are really cool! No more string winders...
Good move Richard!
Locking tuners are the way to go.
I've got Sperzels on one of my guitars.

Glad to see your planning on participating in yet another Tampa Bay JPF Showcase Richard.
A few months ago I had the pleasure of hosting a house concert featuring JPF mentor Harold Payne who by the way co-writes with Bobby Womack who was just inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. My nephew Benjamin Played an instrumental jazz piece to warm things up and as we had pre arranged Richard Maclamale performed as an opening act for Harold to the great pleasure of our forty plus guests. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of seeing Richard perform I can tell you that he has an original style that is polished and his unique songwriting skills are matched only by his spot on delivery.
This chapter has attracted some really awesome talent over the past few years and I am proud of what we are doing here so please get involved, reach out to friends and let's make this next showcase a blockbuster.

Al, you're making me blush. smile

I'd like to make a small suggestion for the June showcase. It would be really really good if we could get a small monitor up on the stage. I don't recall there being one last time... I'd bring one but I don't have a "small" monitor. I've only got the Peavey PR12s and they're not small. They're also not really monitors. smile
I completely agree with Al - Richard you definitely are the complete package when it comes to being a singer/songwriter. Great songs, great delivery - looking forward to that next CD.

AS for the monitor, I have a cheap (and I do mean cheap) Kustom monitor. It's not too small, but it is a monitor. Don't know how well it will work with the system on hand, but I'll bring it if you all want.

Steve V
We will be using my Carvin system this time around and there will be monitors.
Al & I already discussed this.
Thanks!

Awesome, Jerry!
I sent the guys from Horsefeathers two songs to learn and we will be rehersing them this Sunday the 31st at one of the members homes (God Bless his wife)and performing them both at the next Tampa Bay JPF showcase slated for June 7th at The Proud Lion in Tampa.
For you new members we did this alot last year, here's how its done. Come to a showcase and participate, meet the guys from "Horsefeathers" who are a band made up of Tampa Chapter members, e-mail (or hand them a disc) them two songs you would like to perform with them on, make the rehearsal, do your homework just like for any other performance and Voila you have the opportunity to perform with a full backline of seasoned players.
This is gonna be fun!

I am planning to be there.
Me too!

Sadly
I'm going to be out of town for the June and July meetings.
I had a great time at the Proud Lion last month. Good food and a great place.

I'll be there, for a rare opportunity to go to Tampa to play instead of work.
One week from today is the showcase!
YAHOO!

I'll be there with DVDs and CDs from the last couple of showcases, camcorder to film this one, and some backing tracks on an MP3 player that hopefully can be piped through the PA. If anyone found a power adapter I may have left there last time, please let me know. I especially like that Proud Lyon's showcases are electric friendly, muwahhahah.
Glad to see the good response here but there are so many people who get my e-mail and just don't take a minute to post an RSVP here that it always leaves us wondering about the potential turnout. I do want to thank those of you who have posted and am sorry for those who can't make it but at least you were courteous enough to chime in so thank you all.
Now, as far as a guest speaker goes we took a survey last week to guage interest on subjects and have come to a conclusion.
One of the subjects that folks showed the most interest in is self promotion. So.....our very own in house professor of music and lifetime music achiever Jim Mason will be speaking on this subject so don't miss this one.
We look forward to seeing you all and please continue to pass the word along to fellow songwriter/musicians.

Jeff
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm sorry Frank and I can't make it...we have a GIG that day at the Bent Elbow in Largo. Have a great show as always, and maybe we can swing for next time if we're not working.

Thank you for all you do.

All the Best,
Cindy and Frank
I'll be there.
would love to, but no wheels.
Ya'll wouldn't mind some scab out-of-towner popping in to check things out, woodja? You guys seem to have a great scene, I'd love to come see some other craftsmen.

Let the good time roll! Al, If you have one of those triangle thingy's for percussion that would be great. I'm hoping bass and drums from Horse Feathers can sit in with me and play along with my backing tracks.
We have 2 gigs on Sunday, so we won't be there, but have fun!
I have a triangle thingy but there are different types of triangle thingy's. I will bring the thingy in hopes it's the thingy that you hope I have.
Al
Thanks so much for the friendly welcome! Can't wait to see you guys this afternoon.

Jim Mason mentioned in his very interesting talk this afternoon (Thanks, Jim!!) that "Performing Songwriter" is one of those "must have" reading sources. I just found out that June 2009 is their last issue as they are going out of business after 16 years of publication.

Great meeting! Good seeing you all again.

Happy birthday Becky!
Andy;
Thanks for doing a professional job running the PA.
Jim;
Really enjoyed your talk!
Lots of great ideas and inspiration to get music moving.
It was great to see the familiar faces and a few new one's.
A very enjoyable showcase!

Thanks so much for the great times and music yesterday. Best wishes to all performers present and MIA, keep the vibe alive!

Showcase was fun, as always.
Thanks to Jerry and Al, Andy, Jim M. and the others responsible for organizing this event!
Hey, did I miss the banner?

Sunday's showcase was super. Good folks, great music, good food and service and the ice tea is just right. Jerry was setting up the P.A. when I got there so I loaded in and then everyone started to shuffle in and pitch in and we had the stage set up like clockwork.
Players included..
Richard Maclamale
Steve Vaclavik
Lefty Dave Smith
Q-Thorquest
Paul Guy Bovee
Al Alvarez w/Horsefeathers...Andy Karpinski, Jerry Jakala, Steve Dockendorf and Brenda Sanchez sitting in on percussion.
Steve Dockendorf and Horsefeathers
Blue Island Beer Club - Bruce and Colin
Phillip and Brenda
and
Rob Sweet
Jim and MaryAnn Mason brought in our good friend Kevin Thomas for a couple of hours and Jim also was our guest speaker doing a great job on the topic of promoting ones self in the business of music.
We also sang happy birthday to Becky Alvarez and shared in a delicious birthday cake and hopefully some new friends were made.
Thanks to everyone who participated and otherwise supports our chapter.

That was good cake! It's always great to hear the Tampa JPF talent! Sorry we missed Blue Island Beer Club, Phil and Brenda and Rob - a puppy at home still needs attention!

Thanks to Al and Jerry for all their work. Andy always does a great job with the sound - not an easy job with the different guitar/instrument set ups and different playing styles. The presentation by Jim was informative and helpful.

Steve V
A very worthwhile event. We have a very talented group. I was particularly inspired by Jim Mason's talk. We are indeed fortunate to count as one of our family one who is so experienced and giving.
I would like to add a special thanks to Q for his video work.
I don't know much about video myself but I do know that it is very time consuming.
Thanks Q!
