1. COORDINATOR’S MESSAGE

Does anyone else in this group post their tunes on an internet site? I think its really great that over 400 people listened to my recording of “Reflections On A Bottle” this January on SoundClick. I know some of them have come linked from JPF board postings and some from the SoundClick message boards, but the volume means they’re also coming from other places around the web.

Thanks to Janet we have a wonderful place to do some showcases and song circles. See the meeting notes below - and come check it out this month.

2. FEBRUARY MEETING INFO

Wednesday, FEBRUARY 25th, 7:00 PM
at COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL OF SPRINGFIELD
127 State Street, Springfield

Mark your calendar; and tell the weatherman. Based on our past experiences, it will snow on the 25th cause we’ve scheduled a get together. The performance space at the CMSS is a wonderful room with stone walls and soaring ceilings and a baby grand piano in tune.

We’ll do a song critique and circle. Anyone wishing to participate is welcome. If you don’t want us to critique your song or performance that’s OK too - just get up and play. A challenge for this month to get your songwriting mind out of hibernation and get the ink flowing: Write a song using the one word title “ICE”. It’ll be fun to compare results and see what methods we each use to develop a concept.

3. JANUARY MEETING NOTES

We held a meeting. It snowed!

Despite the weather and the bus blocking access to the CMSS garage, Janet, Marty, Ray, and Peter took turns playing and talking. We also had the pleasure of hearing a song written and performed by Amanda - a 13 year old student of Janet’s who did an amazing job.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m in love with the room. (I’m thinking about bringing a digital video camera down this month just to get some shots of me playing in it.) The building was a very traditional bank. The soaring lobby space has been set up for recitals at one end with rows of chairs surrounding the baby grand. As you play there is a very natural reverb as the walls caress the sounds. It just feels good!

4. THE JPF LYRIC COMPETITION UPDATE

If you entered, its time to vote. You should have received an e-mail from Brian with details. First round votes are due on February 20th. If you didn’t enter, its still an educational experience to read through what others have submitted. Also, to select your favorites and see how those compare to the eventual winners.

5. ALBANY ANYONE...
Bill Graham is giving a session on music, the law and copyright at the Albany Chapter February meeting. Unfortunately the date falls in the middle of the kids school vacation so I’m not going to be able to make the trip out.
