While enrolled in college in 1972, Rex began his songwriting career. He subsequently opened his first publishing company in 1979, and his first big break came when he signed a co-publishing deal with Famous Music in 1982. This led to his first Nashville cut, followed by his first trip to Music City in 1983.

Rex has opened 4 other publishing companies since: REX BENSON MUSIC (BMI), REX TO RICHES MUSIC (BMI), CHECKS TO REX MUSIC (ASCAP), REX ROCKS (SESAC).

As a Writer and/or Publisher/Song-plugger, Rex has placed songs with many distinguished artists including GARTH BROOKS (With TRISHA YEARWOOD), KENNY ROGERS (With ALISON KRAUSS and BILLY DEAN), KENNY ROGERS (With LINDA DAVIS), TAMMY WYNETTE, JOE DIFFIE, CHRIS LEDOUX, CHESAPEAKE (With LINDA RONSTADT), RICH McCREADY, THE OAK RIDGE BOYS, KENNY ROGERS (With BRAD PAISLEY), SCOTT JOSS, SHIRLEY MYERS, MEL TILLIS, BOBBY VINTON, LACY J. DALTON, STEVE GILLETTE, and many others.

REX BENSON MUSIC represents the #1 Smash Hit Single ‘BUY ME A ROSE’ by KENNY ROGERS...(#1 in Billboard, R and R, Gavin, and CMT the week of May 1st, 2000...a finalist in the 2000 CMA ‘Single Of The Year’ category...

The 2nd Tuesday Songs in Progress Workshop is held the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Next one: JUNE 14th, Tuesday Night, 7 to 9 pm



The 2nd Tuesday, Songs in Progress Workshop is hosted by One Foot in the Grave’s Gavan Wieser. This workshop gets you some feedback from peers on your new or partially finished lyrics or songs. You can present your work on CD, cassette, or live. Bring a few lyric sheets. Very casual. Held at 8607 N. 59th Avenue in Glendale, AZ. Call Gavan for more 623-934-8681.
