Beware! Do not enter if you hate the blues cool

Video: VULTURE (All PD images edited by us)
Audio only: Vulture

Here’s you some "down south" and "down under" blues. Down under? Peter, our Australian friend and frequent collaborator played all the guitar parts. Our hearts are in the blues so this is the grittier vocal side of Janice.

The write pays homage to the 1920's Delta classics with a more modern blues groove and chord choice. While arranging it we heard an Otis Rush tune with no intro (unusual for blues) so we decided to try it - we liked it but your results may vary smile

As always we most welcome your time to listen and comment - hard blues fan or not!

For those inclined toward the tech stuff:

Janice’s vocal: Rodes NT1 via Scarlett 212 USB interface to Logic Pro X / Ozone "Vintage" compression and tape saturation / EMT 140 plate reverb sim

All guitar tracks: Peter and whatever he does to them

Drums: RealDrums Blues Rock Shuffle / tag comped from Logic Pro X kit sounds / Neutron/EMT 140 plate reverb sim

Bass: RealTracks / Neutron / comped from three tracks

Piano: RealTracks / Logic Pro X Direction Mixer / Neutron / EMT 140 plate reverb sim /

Organ: RealTracks / Logic Pro X Direction Mixer / tweaked Neutron “Dirty B” preset” / EMT 140 plate reverb sim

Mix: Logic Pro X
Mastering: Izotope Ozone 7 Advanced with emphasis on slight post eq, added imaging and light limiting.

saw a vulture on my footboard
i cried oh my lord oh my lord
ain't headin' to my reward

i've sold my soul 'n my body
never listened to anybody
didn't ever say I was sorry

the tb done put me in bed
got me talking outa my head
my heart's filled with dread

saw a vulture on my footboard
i cried oh my lord oh my lord
i ain't headin’ to my reward

Thanks to Peter and PG Music.

Hi J&B + Peter:

Magnificent production and music collaboration. Moving music, need I say more. Thanks for sharing and I would be remiss if I did not mention J's remarkable vocal delivery... and I suspect Bud is the "engine that powers this bus" so very well. Enjoyed just the SoundCloud version for starters and will now witness the video. ----Dave

We appreciate that Dave. Janice is really in her wheelhouse with the blues and Peter always works his riffs well with her vocals (like what he plays while she’s singing “talkin’ outa my head”). But, hey, I’m obviously biased! Nice of you to mention the “bus” as it was fun mix and master this project. Thanks again for such a supportive review!

""saw a vulture on my footboard
i cried oh my lord oh my lord
i ain't headin’ to my reward""

Haven't listened yet, but really enjoyed this. Tidy lyrics all the way.

Enjoyed the video. Nice groove.

ps..Thanks for the rundown of the techy stuff. 90 percent of it was over my head..but I read it all with interest. smile

This is another excellent production Bud.
Janice’s vocal and Peter’s guitar performances are stellar and play off each other wonderfully.

Awesome and authentic feel all through this. Excellent work, Bud and Janice! Don't know if it's just at my end but the lyrics on the video were not scrolling with the vocal and just stopped towards the end.

Glad you liked it. And thanks for mentioning the lyrics. We tried to capture the old delta blues themes. Hey, the techie stuff is not as intimidating as it initially seems. If this ole dog can learn new tricks it bodes well for about anybody!

That's gotta be on youtube's end of things. The video has been up since last fall with no issues. Hopefully they haven't corrupted the file. Glad you liked it. Not for everybody but we enjoyed putting it together.

Thanks!

The song itself seems like something Alan Lomax would have picked up somewhere - which is to say it sounds very authentic.

And that is an awesome vocal smile

Thank you and, yep, we agree that Peter absolutely nailed the feel. Particularly on the response to the line "talkin' outa my head."

We appreciate you listening.
