Ain't Givin' Up_Dedicated to Floyd Jane - 02/05/18 05:21 PM

Folks,

A few years ago, I enrolled in the Floyd Jane Song Writing Academy to learn how to write a country song, and had the honor of writing The Worst Country Song in the History of Mankind by the Country Music Association as well as the prestigious ďWorst of the WorstĒ medal from ASCAP. Floyd kicked me out of the program, but I was happy to have been given a chance.

What we did was, we got on a bus and took a grand tour of Nashville and then drove across the United States visiting every hell hole Floyd had ever been to, and there were a lot. I got punched in the face about a hundred times, but Floyd said it was part of the ďprocess.Ē

Well, at the end of it all I did not get my certificate but I did have this song.

Hope you hate it as much as everybody else does.

Ainít Giving Up
By David Snyder

Voted World's Worst Song--Country Music Fans International

V1

I saw you standing there
With your solo cup
You punched me in the face
Then I threw up
You said I hate to see you dressed that way
Youíre a fake cowboy now go away
I said girl come and see my new Dodge truck
You used some kick boxing girl kicked me in the guts
I asked you if I am might try my luck
You pulled out a gun and said hey whatís up
You said hey whatís up

Pre Chorus

And girl itís plain to see
What I got going on for me

CH

Yeah you might hate my guts
But I ainít giving up
Cause I write country, yeah I write country
And when we cross that Florida Georgia line
Iíll lay it on the line and make you mine
I might be a fool but Iíll die trying
Until you love me
Until you love me
And you stop hitting me, punching me
Shootiní me, ah girl

V2

Well I went down onto Music Row
Everybody telliní me where to go
Well Iíve already been to a place called Hell
Itís New York City donít like the smell
Rather sit right here with my moonshine
One of these days gonna make you mine
Like Miley said itís all about the climb
Even if youíre out of your mind
I can twerk myself and even get nude
But girl I donít need to get that rude

PreChorus

Some day youíre gonna see
What I got going on for me

CH

Yeah you might hate my guts
But I ainít giving up
Cause I write country, yeah I write country
And when we cross that Florida Georgia line
Iíll lay it on the line and make you mine
I might be a fool but Iíll die trying
Until you love me
Until you love me
And you stop hitting me, punching me
Shootiní me, ah girl
Cause I write Country

Well at least you got votes, David.

Punk Country... LOL! Yeah, David:

I think maybe Vic has pigeon-holed you with that one! Can you tell I'm rolling on the floor laughing after hearing that "accent" you laid on us. No doubt, it's Country! My genre classification would be Bumpkin-Country (assuming you still have a sense of humor... Vic would say "humour!") but I really did enjoy hearing this thing as you... and probably only you... can perform it.

Too many clever lines to mention but I wish I had the back door into our little local radio station here in "West Mayberry." Town folks would be rockin' right along... or "just-a-swingin" as they tap their toes to your production. Great entertainment. Send more! ----Dave

Oh thank you Dave Rice! God bless you my Texas friend. I will never lose my sense of humor.

Even if I was marooned on a desert island sleeping underneath of a gigantic cuckoo's nest wondering when the next rotten egg was going to fall, with not so much as a Karen Carpenter 8 track tape to soothe me, and I had nothing but a distant memory of the way just old plain ordinary folks used to be, and I was buck naked, and burnt to a crisp, despised and rejected among all men, with not even the First Amendment to protect me, robbed of the right to defend myself in a foreign and hostile land, well Dave, I would still have my sense of humor.

Because, I would remember Texas, and I would remember George Bush, who once upon a time looked at his wife after a certain speech was given, and caught on camera said "Laura, that was some weird and crazy......right there."

And so Dave, as I set off driving across the desert in search of freedom, I salute you sir, but never fear, I will not die.

Because I Ain't Givin' up Dave.

'Cause I write country.

Adios Amigo.

Well... you just need to write more "punched in the face" songs... until you get it right... we taught you that, right? (and then a quick left upper cut).

And, by the way... that toilet seat you took from the bus....... we need that back...

...and that tire iron...

I enjoyed your song.

fwiw...I thought that the lyrics were poet worthy. Agitated poet maybe, but worthy. Rap-ish and sort of "Positively 4th Street" contemporized.
I particularly liked the lead/rhythm guitar that was in one ear and the rhythm guitar in the other ear. Driving and melodic, working well together.

Good stuff.

I actually really liked this song. It's a nice crossover tune with toes dipped in country, Americana, and punk.

I loved the attitude in the tune. The performances on the vocals and instruments are solid.

This would sound really good with a better mix. The overall EQ is too bright, there is a mid issue in the vocals (somewhere around 600Hz or so), and a bit too much reverb (or the reverb just needs shaping for the tune). Please update the mix! I have heard your other stuff and know you can make this sound great.

Peace,
TC

Thanks Martin. That is a really nice comparison I had never thought of. Dylan is a favorite. I love that song as well.

I was in a silly mood on this one, but I guess the "poetry" was coming from some place. Since you are a poet, too, I guess you know how that goes.

Thanks again.

Hey TC,

I completely agree with you and you are right. 100% right. This is from a few years ago and I did not have the same tools or knowledge I have today. Before I posted I spent a few hours on a 2018 mix and fixed all of the issues you are talking about, but them it lost that crazy, over the top punchy factor and it seemed more "boring" and "restrained" with less attitude. So for the time being I went with the original and just hoped no one would notice but you did.

Yeah, this is a tricky mix--it will take me some time to get the exact right sound on the drums, guitars, bass, vocals, everything, so it is still crazy but not too bright. Kind of back to the drawing board. As you know, once you start to tinker with a mix like this (an in your face song) you can't just tweak one thing, you have to tweak everything.

But, you are totally right and I will put that on the stack of things that I really, really, really enjoy doing--like taxes

smile

When I fix it, I will put the new mix somewhere else (another soundcloud account for mix versions only) and let you know and you can tell me if it's better. If not. I'll do it again.

Thanks for being honest. You caught me man.

This song was just alright up until the second "Until you love me". When it continued on to "And you stop hitting me, punching me. Shootiní me, ah girl" it crossed over into pretty awesome!
