Autumn Breeze...

Autumn Breeze... - 10/01/17 10:08 PM

This song's about 7+ years old. I remix it each October. One of my favorite songs of mine & Cal's - but I'm never happy with the mix. Maybe next year...

Autumn Breeze
Lyrics: Cal Francis DiFalco
Music: John Lawrence Schick
Sung by Erik Tyler

I turned around, and summer’s gone
The autumn wind is calling me
And things have changed, re-arranged
Winter’s breath, a certainty

My mind is plagued, with things I gave
For which there’s nothing in return
I have learned, bridges burned
Are unworthy of concern

Autumn breeze, be true to me
Turn my wishes, like the leaves
As they fade, my hopes parade
They keep marching inside of me

Darkened streets, where we’d meet
Take an eerie solemn glow
We used to walk, we used to talk
When we used to bare our souls

Things have changed, re-arranged
Summer must give way to fall
Take my hand, take my heart
Take away, take away, take it all…

Autumn breeze, be true to me
Turn my wishes, like the leaves
As they fade, my hopes parade
They keep marching inside of me

Hi John!

Sounds Gershwinish for sure--not easy pulling those notes out of these chords for the singer! I liked this era of music and style for easy listening. Nicely done--you singing? With your ever evolving mix, IMO,I think the mix just needs the piano music rolled back a little in the lows and mid lows a tad, or maybe a pinch if you're a cook! However, my headphones may have added a little extra bass, so not 100% sure. Well done John as usual!

Hi John and Cal by default:

Stunning song with lyrics that soar. Erik's vocal (as Eddie pointed out) is fantastic when the complexities of the song are considered. Impressive work, my friend and associates. 90% of the time, the melody is the most important factor in a song and this one hangs there on the edge where the words share at least 50% of the spotlight. Hearing this song on laptop speakers is far from ideal but it's my kind of song (I'm from that era) and I'm so glad I took the time to listen.

John, I completely understand the "mix" thing. Arrangements are difficult at best and sometimes nearly impossible to bring out all the elements of a work like this. Is it perfect? Probably not... but who among us writes perfect songs? (Hint: It ain't me, Fred!)

The only "nit" I can toss your way is the spelling of bare in the fourth line of the fourth verse! See, I do my best to pay attention to every aspect of what you do because you are so darn good. Wonderful collaboration. ----Dave

Thanks Eddie & Dave.

Eddie... I agree, my next mix I'll take some low-end off the piano.

Dave... thanks for the spelling check.

Thanks to Eddie I did a complete EQ makeover on this song. Replaced the original link with a new one.

John,

Nice feel; chill piano laying down cool melody and sweet vocal. I’ll confess, not my style of tune, but I admire the artistry behind it nonetheless. But what a deep, smoky feel to this. Well done!

All the best,

Deej

Interesting and unpredictable melody, nicely put together. I think you could probably do without the wind sound effects but that's just me. Sweet!
