Hi all.
This is a first for me. Never did a Christmas song before but Travis obviously thought it was time I did. Bah Humbug! smile
After playing around with his lyrics a bit I managed to come up with this.
Does it work?
Vic
I've now put a video together here:

A Tumbleweed Christmas © 2017 John Vaughan & Vic Arnold
V
Everyone rushing to beat the snow fall
While I sit at my window just watching them all
And so when this old festive season holds sway
for a tumbleweed, Christmas is just one more day
V
The big stores are pumping out popular tunes
Well Bing, it looks like your dream will come true
Snowflakes are settling like soft memories
of a time before our love got lost in the freeze
C
The Salvation Army on the corner will play
For a tumbleweed, this day drifts by at slow pace
Christmas Eve's here but it doesn't feel right
Oh I wish I had you to hold on to tonight
V
I'm not one of those who just stares at his beer
I have a few friends. It's a shame they're not here.
We could all share this night but they've places to go
So I sit at my window and stare at the snow
Ch.
Br.
Just for a second in the blink of an eye
I swore she was here, darn it, now I could cry
Maybe a shadow but I don't think it's mine
Could tumbleweeds meet up on this Christmas time
Chorus

for a tumbleweed, Christmas is just one more day ...LOVE THIS LINE
Thanks for the listen Neil
Travis
You guys are "on a roll" with this latest "offering:"

I listened and followed along the lyrics as Vic sang. I suppose if someone asked me to find the correct "genre pigeon-hole" for this one, "Christmas Blues" would be exactly where it lands. Too many clever lines to "highlight" but by the time we got to the end of the song, I was ready to go to the "fridge" and grab a "cold one." Mission accomplished, my friends. A bit sad... but so interesting... and it sure causes me to be grateful for not being alone at Christmas.

What's next, dynamic duo? Thanks for some super entertainment. ----Dave

Thank you Lane.
I suppose being a Christmas song a little cliché is allowed, especially if it's just musically.
Glad you found the time to comment. It's soooo quiet here lately.

Vic
Yes those tweeks work Vic a little smoother!
Well done guys...good call on the tempo and 3/4 time. Also, a different, fresh take on the Christmas theme. Cool!

Ricki
Cool Christmas tune Guys! Excellent recording/ production. August is a good month to peddle it. Good luck with it!

Best, John smile
Thanks Ricky.Your input is always welcome

Thanks Ricki. One of the reasons I did it was because of the different approach lined up by Travis.
I'm glad it worked out.

What a blue Christmas! So well written, a sad story and love the Bing line!

Vic, I love that deep tone, my favorite! That triangle sound is perfect to keep it in the Christmas genre. Love the emotional spots in this (like darn it), you sung it so well and told the story. This works for me and love the ending where you wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

Tammy
Thanks John ivery sent the song to a couple of people.
You never know!

Hi Tammy.
Thank you so much for such a nice comment.
The Bing line was all Travis's. He also suggested I change "Damn it" to "Darn it".

Vic
Cheers Tammi.

Vic/Travis,

What a nice "country waltz" tune. Perfect for a video guys--you have time before Christmas, but you'd better hurry! Enjoyed this'n!

Nice chilled melodic music on this song, hope your Christmas is better this year.

Thanks Eddie.
Whenever I make a video I'm always stumped for images. Most pro images are understandably expensive to purchase and still shots almost always look amateur.
If time allows and the snow falls I may shoot my own.

Hell yes.... it works for me.
A wonderful performance/ production, Vic.

Warm and lovely write Travis.

Love the chorus..
"Christmas Eve's here but it doesn't feel right
Oh I wish I had you to hold on to tonight"

Getting me in the mood quite early gents.
Nice collab guys.

Hi Nelson.
Glad it put you in the mood. Thanks.

Vic
Hi Vic and Travis,

You guys; you're breaking my heart here! You make my smile for the subtle self-deprecating humor, and yet it's pretty sad and has that barroom swagger that few muster as well as Kris K and Roger M but this does and you do too, guys.

Ah yes, I fondly remember the days of waltzing while holding on dearly..to a half finished bottle of beer.. Thanks for the memories. smile

Great work. Love it..

Ah .... Mike, you mentioned the Roger M. So pleased.
I loved everything he did.
We backed him and his guitarist, Thumbs Carlisle on the BBC radio when he came over in the 60's.
No rehearsals. It was a fun but we knew his stuff anyway because we'd been doing it for a while. He asked if he could try out our guitarist's custom guitar(which he'd got free to promote it).
After a few licks he gave it back with a dry, "Thank you, I'll stick with mine".
Anyway, I digress. Thank you and so glad you appreciated our efforts.

Vic
To anybody who read the last two posts and wondered "who is Roger M?"

That's Roger Miller, the King of the Road, the Master of the Two-Minute Ditty. Listen to "England Swings" once and you remember it for life.

What a wonderful time that must've been, Vic, backing such a class act and fun guy.

Mike
Cheers Doug
Hope you're feeling better now
Travis
Thanks L.R.

Mike.
One of my favourites of his for it's sheer nonsense is "Lou's got the flu"
I have many fond memories of those days, Mike.
Some, not so fond. Such is life.

Thanks again

We try.

Vic
Thanks once again Mike for the listen.
My favourite song by the late lamented Roger Miller is Husbands and Wives.
The lyrics are outstanding and equally carry a lot of truth.
Check out the Everly Brothers version too

I liked the Video Vic. Lots of images that reinforce your story line.

About 50 seconds in, there is some guy who looks reminiscent of Charles Manson. Is that just me?

Not where I am in Pembrokeshire. Sun and showers mostly.
I don't think we've had snow in 3 or 4 years.

Vic

I really enjoyed this guys!

I think you captured the mood and genre of this perfectly. No extra frills to mess up the arrangement, only what was needed.

Great job.
