Folks that have left because of me, please come back to the forum. Dont want to hurt the sites numbers, apparently many people have many different views on what makes a good forum
I dont want to ruin anyones fun, so come back, I'll go golfing, maybe hit the home recording forums as I just bought some stuff i now have to figure out how to use.
Cya!
I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, FD:
It was beginning to feel like you had begun to accept that we are "all in this together" and had "toned down" some of your anxiety toward the world in general. Ask yourself... will leaving serve any useful purpose?
After being the recipient of some pretty bad reviews from industry professionals in my "less than auspicious" music career... I have to admit that it made me vow to work harder, try to write better, sing with more clarity and style... and learn to be my own worst critic. My point is... a frank review takes courage... and, when not too damning... can lead us to be better song-writers or performers.
It never hurts to soften the blow of a bad review with a glimmer of something positive... and I believe I have detected a change. Leave if you must... but if you're looking for encouragement to stay... you have my vote.
All the best, ----Dave
Dude, what're you doing? People butt heads and disagree on these forums all the time, stick around and contribute.
I know where to find you guys, this wasnt a "help im going to jump off the bridge" kind of thread.
I suspect you all will be here for the duration, I just want the people who left because of me to come back.

Because were all buttheads. :-)
Feddie, take it from eddie--
I have no idea who left because of you, but if they did, they need to thicken their skin a bit anyway. I agree with Dave, I've noticed more kindness from your reviews or comments of late. I agree with a lot of what you say at times with your crits. The fact is that this forum has evolved into a pretty close knit group in general which is why you see crits given out maybe more often with a dose of honey at times. You had mentioned somewhere that it's difficult to really be objective at times when critiquing friends--that's true.......but I know I enjoy having JPF music friends and have learned over time which of these friends likes more serious crits vs just than just having a listen. There are some posters that in the past I've made the same elementary sugs over & over again........after a while, when you realize "why beat a dead horse as they say," so I refrain giving critiques to someone that doesn't really want to change/improve their composing or writing. I do tend to more often make constructive comments or suggestions on songs that I perceive to be better quality writing, as there is usually always much positive there to contrast any smaller sugs or crits. When more novice or raw songs are posted I look to see from the opening statement about the song if the writer is looking for constructive crits/sugs/etc. I then may share a lot of crits/sugs at their request or invite. Sometimes some of the raw songs are truly very good as well from a melody or lyric standpoint.
Bottom line is: You can't really be a totally objective critic like a Simon Cowell (he's an entertainer and paid to be a hard ass) in a social media forum and be able to enjoy the forum or be well liked. If there were a forum designed in that format, people would after awhile evolve into the same type forum we have here in JPF--its a natural evolution of human nature. I did suggest a few years back that we have a "menu" header in the MP3 forum listing area for the songwriter/poster to check a box on which parameters of their song they would like reviewed or not reviewed. In this manner, the poster would get what he/she asked for--and more than likely would get more real honest constructive crits. I used to give more harsh crits a few years ago, but now give them more selectively and sparingly. If one is perceived to "enjoy" critiquing for elevating their own ego and enjoy the contention that may follow, their credibility as a critic pretty much becomes unwanted or not respected. Anyone that does critique fairly seriously, will have some misunderstand their intentions at times.
I also think you should hang around even though you have been a rascal at times. I like your spirit and you have some great comments as well. I think maybe you've gotten yourself into a few arguments that became theatre. Sometimes it's better just to say, "we just don't see eye to eye on this one pal." There are times even when you know you are "right," to just remain silent, because your "truth" may be gasoline on someone else's fire. Battles have to be really important before committing yourself 100%. Many times arguments have several shades of gray and no one is really wrong anyway........
There are other forums out there that may suit your personality more, and if so, hell yes join them if you feel happier and get more gratification elsewhere! But I think you should not just totally abandon we JPF'ers, there are a lot of different personalities around here, some contrary, some insecure, some bold & brash, some shy, some very kind, and of course there's Calvin............you won't find one like him anywhere, as there is only one of him in the world--and we got him!
Good luck to you, I really, really dug your last song Irene. It struck me in my soul, a bit painfully, yet it reached deep into me with your performance. The only other song that hit me in the gut like your song was Wendy's song "Haley."

Thanks to all you guys for the thumbs up. Im not looking for a "aww come back", im trying to get the people who left to come back. Nobody should be asked to play arbitrator or figure out who they like more.
So keep bumping, maybe the deserters can see it and come back.
Eddie, Thanks for the kudos, I too have heard some rare good songs here too. They do appear sometimes and often get unnoticed cause the person posting is not a regular.
I did tone it down, like i said maybe my view was different than others of why they post a song. Everybody who posts here is a songwriter or artist of some sort.
Just let the fugitives know that the coast is clear.
