I'll start it off with this....

Carol King and James Taylor..."You've got a friend"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIMJBDj_JkE

and will end with this....One of my all-time favorite youtubes!!!!

Joe Cocker..."With a Little Help From My Friends"....Woodstock..."closed captioned":-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G-zmXgrxUU

Oh, and as stoned as Joe was at Woodstock, he never missed a musical beat and always got back to the mic on time:-)

Watcha other folks got?

I wanna hear it!

Thanks....

Joe's performance is among the best from Woodstock, IMO.

On a side note, John Belushi’s imitation of Joe Cocker is my favorite skit from the very early days of Saturday Night Live! Extremely funny!

Okay, one song that pops into mind is "My Best Friend’s Girlfriend" by the Cars. Great pop song from the early-mid eighties. I cannot quite remember the lyrics but the "hook" is right there in mind front and center.
John Prine, "Day Is Done".

Well,
An old one. SIDE BY SIDE Nick Lucas and others. YouTube.
John Prine is such a great story teller with his songs! Very straight forward, old-school, acoustic and vocals, loads of great songs!

John Prine - "Be My Friend Tonight" is another.

Those guys would come up with their own guitar tuning for a song, write the song, and then need to have multiple guitars to deal with all the unique tuning each different song required! That's my favorite Sonic Youth album, worth a listen!

Thank YOU!

And, yeah... "My Friend Goo" is a great one.
Speaking of odd tunings:

Frank Zappa called them "better than The Beatles."

One thing about the Carole King song--it's a lot harder to perform than you'd think. There's a certain earnestness that James Taylor found that made it work.

One of the first songs I ever heard and loved by Elton John was one from a teen romance movie from early '71, both movie and song called

"Friends":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdw51RHZAME

But my all-time favorite friends song has seen dozens and dozens of recordings over the years, as it's a traditional folk song. I love Willie Nelson's, Bob Dylan's, and the Grateful Dead's, but my favorite version is by Iris Dement's husband, Greg Brown, duet-ing with one of my folk heroes Bill Morrisey, who died in 2011, on the road (just like in the lyric) while touring.

Since we seem to be on a Nilsson roll here....And since Todd mentioned Nilsson's "The Puppy Song"....

Hey Todd, how's this for Mr. Nilsson following through????

"Me and My Arrow"....From "The Point"....Another Nilsson "Puppy" song:-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1n9QTkrkP0

For any and all who don't get the reference, and I suspect that many will..."The Point" was the story of a boy and his dog....Ended up as an "animated film" and broadcast
on American TV back in the mid-seventies....If I were to say that it was "heart-warming", then I would be guilty of understatement.....

How about the band Queen doing "You're My Best Friend" from the album: "A Night at the Opera".

This album (as I bet you already know):-) is packed full of great songs.

Even their first few albums before this one were masterpieces of studio production. Definitely "headphone" music!

Hey Toby:-)

Please don't make our heads go down the "Googling" road....

Can ya take a breath and give us a "link"?....No rush, no hurries, no worries....

Appreciate it!!!

Honestly Midnite I pull all of this stuff out of my own stash!

I mean we are talking: Steve Goodman, Iris Dement, John Prine, Sonic Youth... this is some extremely diverse stuff!

I relate to all of it!
