It's Your Wedding Day

It's Your Wedding Day - 11/18/19 02:50 PM

It's Your Wedding Day

It's your wedding day
I bet you're a sight to see
The prettiest bride to be
I'd be the first to say

I know i can't be there
Cause we have a little history
And since you broke it off with me
My feelings would be aware

I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
It's your wedding day
I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
You're going to say "i do"

Scrolling down my phone
Of pictures of you and me
We look like we were meant to be
What went wrong

I got to shake this thing
Stop feeling sorry for myself
I slowly pushed you on to someone else
Now you're gonna take his name

I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
It's your wedding day
I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
You're going to say "i do"

Well if i could turn back time
To the days when you were mine
And i know what i know now
It would be a perfect picture
The sweetest permanent fixture
When we'd say our vow,but

I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
It's your wedding day
I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue
You're going to say "i do"

Hi Michael,

I like these lines:

I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams are borrowed
I'm something blue

Those words really tug at the heart.

Really like the idea of this. Feel like I'd tweak it:

I'm something old
He's something new
My dreams were borrowed
Now I'm something blue

Hi Mike
Good theme, the I'm something blue line reminded me of Elvis'Something Blue song from the Pot Luck album.
Perhaps,That's Something Blue?
Cheers

Reading this brought back memories of a similar lyric I wrote many years ago. Though not specifically about an old flame getting married like yours is, it is about reaching a point in a relationship where one knows that there is nothing left to hold on to. At the time of its writing I was also, along with many others, was getting ready to leave our workplace of the past three years as the office was being closed due to a consolidation. Therefore the piece had a dual purpose at the time of its writing. Here it is:

TAKE THE PICTURES DOWN

c1996 Brian Beecher

The only way to keep a secret
Is not to tell anyone at all
That I got a different number
On the night when I had made the call

I gave in to the temptation
Just to call and find out how youíve been
So youíre living with a new love now
And Iím on the outside looking in

I guess itís time to
Take the pictures down
Now itís time for me to
Take the pictures down

Getting over a broken romance
Doesnít happen very fast
You must ruthlessly get rid of
Painful reminders of the past

I wonít be reading old love letters
Or looking through old photographs
As Iíd be constantly reminded
Of something I had hoped would last

I guess itís time to
Take the pictures down
Now itís time to
Take the pictures town

Iíll make certain to avoid old haunts
Which are full of memories
Iíll make some social arrangements
Calling friends who aim to please

This is not a time for living
In the past in any way
Yet Iíll still think about our love
Which once appeared so promising

Now, babe, itís time to
Take the pictures down
Yes itís way past time to
Take the pictures down

Likely to go on much longer
As the memories grown stronger
We were just too close together
I canít begin to heal until

I make the time to
Take the pictures down
Yes I must make time to
Take the pictures down

Comments on this piece more than welcome. Shall I make this the next one to be demoed?
