WW1 LYRIC
THAT NIGHT (rewrite)
V
Will told his pal Jimmy
what Kitchener said.
Your Country Needs You!
so folks sleep safely in their beds
V
Lets take the Kings Shilling
we'll Join all our friends
Meet up in the Crown
We'll have some beer tokens to spend
C
That night they danced
tomorrow prepare-
to join the war in France.
That night they raised their glasses
Said, good health to the King.
On that night they didn't fear a thing
B
Did their basic training
shipped out like cattle.
Not forearmed of the horrors of battle.
The boys later got leave
but many families grieved.
Some wished they could return that
Shilling they received.
V
Wasn't over by Christmas
that season came and went
Pals fell like Autumn leaves
in the mud and sh@t of a freezing trench

Chorus

WW1 LYRIC I'M WORKING ON

LAST NIGHT
V
Willie told his pal Alfred
what Kitchener said
Your Country Needs You
if you're to sleep safely in your bed
V
Take the Kings Shilling
and Join all your friends
Meet up in the Mare
We'll have some beer money to spend
C
Last night they danced
tomorrow they'll be getting armed
for when they go to France.
Last night they raised their glasses
good health to the King
Last night they didn't fear a thing
B
Done their basic training
shipped out like cattle
Not forearmed of the horrors of battle
Some later got leave
but many families grieved
Some wished they could return that
Shilling they received
V
Wasn't over by Christmas
that season came and went
Pals fell like Autumn leaves
in mud and [naughty word removed] in a freezing trench

A rewrite.
Loosely based on the story of two brothers who were relatives and both killed in action during WW1
Whole towns and cities had so called Pals Regiments. Brothers cousins and friends joined up with the knowledge they could be fighting along side people they knew.
Sadly many died and whole streets and towns mourned their glorious dead sons.

There was also a song about two brothers who fought in our Civil War on opposite sides. Anyone remember that one? This one could possibly spawn a sequel about being involved in another war a full century later.
