Hi Lane,
you've got a pretty good start here. The only thing that I am a little concerned with is the "Him". I not sure folks are going to get it without reading the capital h. Maybe in place of f"The Faith", Put "God's love". Just an idea, KOS. I never got around to thanking my father but we never did see I to eye and I still haven't forgiven him for the things he did to hurt our family. But I have written 4+ for my mom, and this one I haven't put on the lyrics but sent to a co-writer, "Classic Country or Country/Pop:

More
Back in nineteen eighty one
My boy came up to me
Holdin’ to an envelope
He wanted me to see
It was on a Mother’s Day
He’d made up his own card
Readin’ it I held back tears
But it was very hard

It said “I love you more”

“More than cotton candy
More than my marbles too
More than sleddin’ in the snow
More even than ole blue
More than choc'late ice cream
More than my best friend Joe
More than ridin’ my new bike
More than anything I know”

Twenty years have passed and more
To the birthing of his son
I waited until Fathers Day
Then I gave him back this one
Plus another I had made
Just waitin’ for this time
It had taken years to write
What I had on my mind

It said “I love you more”

“More than nights out on the town
Or getting’ any sleep
More than fortune, more than fame
Or knick-knacks that I keep
More than berry ice cream
More than a life my own
More than anything on earth
I hope my love has shown

He couldn’t read it for the tears
Flowing from his eyes
He said, “Mom you loved me more
Than I ever realized”

Turnaround 8 bars

"And I still love you more

More than cotton candy
More than my marbles too
More than sleddin’ in the snow
More even than ole blue
More than choc'late ice cream
More than my best friend Joe
More than ridin’ my new bike
More than anything I know”

“Now with a son to hold on to
I know I’ll love him more”

the mom and dad songs are so emotional ...thats a great story/song. we are opposite...no Mom, had a Dad..

I have to forgive...its one of the rules I live by,, I changed that lyric, hope that is what your talking about, could have gone two ways

. Id like to thank you both for the faith and surrender
how to trust God's love..and its all that really matters

. Id like to thank you both for God`s love and surrender
how to trust in Him..and its all that really matters .

you know? we assume people will
read like we intended to have them, and I guess you can`t. you have to get them to the water and poke their heads in it...lol
I think I`ve heard that somewhere.

Glad you like it. It is one of those I may try to get Heather to do. She has the voice for it. She did two for me at a Pineyfest way back when and they are great. She has that tender voice with a break in it us country folk love. I also like the change. And yes sometimes ya gotta hit em in the head with it.

Is this song by any chance a tribute to your own parents?

Sometimes the right words may enhance relationships, whether it's a friendship, a love interest or a business relationship.

To John, I am curious to know who Heather is. There is a folk singer named Heather Styka, based near Chicago, who has made quite a name for herself. Her dad actually manages one of the acoustic music series around here.

Love your song Lane both lyrically and the performance. Could tell it was written and sung with emotion. Thanks for sharing your heartfelt song.
