Cath

You told me about that one smile Man at least if you were with someone else that day you may have survived the experience.

You can always work your way back into the genre, but SLOWLY with a thriller like Steven Spielberg's "Duel" then A "Race With The Devil" with Peter Fonda & Warren Oats.

Then to a mellower Steven King like "Children Of The Corn" or "Maximum Overdrive" where vehicles go around trying to run over people smile Very cool! or "Christine" the haunted car...

Then eventually after a few years you can see the chainsaw wielding maniac Leather Face in a Texas Chainsaw Movie or watch a dozen zombies rip somebody apart alive and eat them LOL smile

Hi Ray

Yes scary Sci Fi transcends right to horror very well especially monster & alien flicks. Like "The Thing"

Hitchcock's Psycho is top rate all the way for any genre. Most of his stuff is really a physiological thriller based in a scare situation. Even the "Birds" is very light weight as a horror movie. There is so much dialogue and story and non creepiness.

Most earlier movies have that, even though classics and great movies, but since the 70's the newer approach has left a lasting effect on previous horror flicks and even later some now who depend on effects and constant remakes and recycled ideas and stories...

I loved all versions of "War Of The Worlds" that kind of unreality reality is always SCARY!! smile

Thanks!

This is a really great flick. I can't tell you much about it, but let's just say that it's so much more than you would think that it is.
Loved.

My most favorite has to be the entire Saw franchise because I love all of the movies. Also love Nosferatu (talk about scary creatures trying to scare the bones out of you), aswell as 28 Days Later (and 28 Weeks Later). Also seen Wrong Turn and Wrong Turn 2 (creepy as creepy can be without coming from another planet), and the Alien franchise (aswell as others)

For the non-English variety, yes, I have watched a few non-English horror films, and some of them are gruesome. Most memorable, though, would be Let The Right One In, which is a good movie.

The Japanese are superb at horror movies. I've only seen one - 'The Grudge' - and plan never to see another. eek

Pop Todd, I've heard good things about 'Cabin in the Woods', but still can't quite bring myself to watch it. grin

An excellent series that I've been watching, though, is 'American Horror Story'. The first season was relatively gruesome (but quite bearable), though the second season was more psychological (albeit with a few body parts thrown in). Wonderful characters in both.

One of my favourite all-time thriller movies is 'Don't Look Now', with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. Amazing film.

'The Blair Witch Project' was pretty good as well in terms of suspense and emotional creepiness. The sequel, however, was absolutely terrible. I wish film-makers would leave well enough alone.

UPDATE: Just watched 'The Cabin in the Woods'. Goodness, it wasn't scary at all! laugh

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
