Just wondering if there is anyone on here who has got a guitar that is unique. Would mean that I'm not alone, as I have a 12-string classical guitar that has got all the workings of a classical guitar. I've tried looking for guitars like it online, but have not had any luck because what's on the net has either the classical headstock or a classical tailpiece and what I have has got all of that. Not just that, but the setup, makes it a perfect slide guitar (it originally had nylon strings on but now has steel strings), and, for some reason, I'm led to believe that it could be the only one of it's kind.

I have never heard of a 12-string classical guitar. Must have been a tight fit getting all those fat nylon strings on there. Could well be the only one.

I guess I have one unique guitar since I modified it myself to add a seventh string. It is however patterned after the Martin Roger McGuinn model which works the same way. The seventh string is adjacent to the G-string and is tuned an octave higher. It has a lot of that 12-string sound without the difficulties of playing a 12-string. A solo played exclusively on the G-string sounds the same as a 12-string.

The 12-string that I got was originally owned by someone else, but he wanted to give it away as he'd not played it in somewhat 30 years (was unable to play it). It even came with a 1970s-style capo and guitar tuition book. I'd say it's now as old as Willie Nelson's guitar, as it's been around since before I was born, and if I'm right, it's from Spain. It's a lovely thing, and I must get Joost to record a song on it because he was the one that discovered that it had slide guitar potential. If you don't know who I'm on about, go onto YouTube and search for yobrojoost, and you'll see vids of him.

My guitar is just a standard 1988 Squier Strat, but I have modified it to uniqueness:

• Chandler Hot Rails pickup in the bridge position, with a coil splitter switch.
• Changed out the original bone nut for a graphite nut.
• Blocked the crappy Fender locking term to make it a fixed bridge.

Ain't another one like it. But, I take it that's not the kind of thing that you're talking about. Looking more for stuff like this:

New or old, squeaky clean or battered, if it's unique, then say so.

How's this for unique:

[Linked Image]

It is a guitar I built from scratch around an award I received where they misspelled my name. The whole story is here:

Building The Bellplank Electric Guitar

Last month I finally installed a microphone inside the body under the plate and modified the electronics appropriately, including building a mixer/preamp for blending the microphone and pickup signals. I need to write a follow-up article and record some samples of its sound, when I get some time.

I forgot to mention that now, with the microphone-only sound selected, the Bellplank sounds to me kind off like a cross between an electric guitar, a dobro, and a banjo.

I built an 8 string electric--the normal strings were: Nashville Hi string tuning--added two normal E and A strings to have some bass--a guitar repairmman now has it as one of his favorite AXES!

I built a fretless lap bass--29" short scale with flat wound strings--it is played open tuning with a bar, like a dobro--I still have the bass--

i have a modified Harmony Stratatone, 1957--has one pickup like a Fender Esquire--the pickup is an old D'Armond--has a cool sound in a Fender Champ Tube Amp!

Andy,

I love that guitar. When are you going to bring it out and play it?

Mackie,

Cool stuff. That 8 string is a great idea....probably be a good acoustic if strung that way too. I had an old Harmony with D'Armond pickups. It sounded wonderful - wish I had not sold it.
