Hi Folks: The day my work winded down in May, I got hit with a bug that kicked my rear for five weeks - am still feeling it but am starting to get antsy, which is a good sign. Anyway, back in May, my wife brought this little creature home with her: Her and our friend Ana found him on the street, flea infested and scared. Gwen allowed Ana to name him and she came up with Popeye. Popeye spent one whole day hissing at us but he warmed up to us pretty quickly. We got him checked out at the vet's and all cleaned up and now he's part of the family. I've been teaching two days a week but have been home the rest of the time trying to kick this bug - so I've been stalking Popeye with the camera. Here are some early shots: Here he is with his mouse: And here he is making himself big: The other cats (Oliver and Sammy) have pretty much adjusted to him. Sammy kind of pretends he isn't there but Oliver and Popeye have started playing. Here are some shots of Oliver and Popeye: Of course, all that rough-housing requires a nap Scott

Sorry to hear you were so sick Scott. I hope you kick it completely. Popeye might just be the perfect medicine. She seems sweet, playful and I'm guessing at times alittle fiesty so it's entertainment for all and obviously a playmate for Oliver at this point. Their colors are so similar. Oliver might takeover in a parental type role or atleast a big brother. BTW great shots!! If you take anymore please post them. Enjoy your new 24/7 entertainment. I'm forever truly smitten With the playfulness of kittens Since their antics never cease while at their play Seems they make it their vocation To get into situations That bring everlasting smiles to our day!!! Best of health, Lynn Picture #5 down looks like Popeye wants to shake Oliver's hand (paw)!!!

Thanks Lynn - great verse! Yeah, I can watch kittens playing for hours. Here are a few more. Oliver has really gotten his confidence up - he rules the house now. Here is another of Oliver and Popeye: And a few of Popeye with Sammy. Sammy looks less than thrilled Of course he naps alot too. Here is one of him waking up:

LOL - he sure does, Ben. Though, as I think about it, I'm not yet sure whether he has big ears or a small head. Time will tell Scott

Scott, These are some wonderful pics! Popeye is adorable and it is wonderful that you have given him a loving home. I love sketching, mainly pets, and you have some great ones I may borrow if I get in a mood to pick up my pencils.

Awesome shots, Scott. Popeye is precious and she seems to have blended in well. The black and white kitty's expressions are priceless. So aloof.
My neighbor and I rescued a kitten over the summer. We let it hang out between the houses. Somehow, the kitty's leg got broken. We felt like it was someone being mean to her-not just an accidental incident. Kittens don't just break legs by themselves. So, long story short, we took her to the vet. The vet performed surgery and all is well. The kitten (we never even had a real name for it, we called it "Little Black Kitty" or "LBK" when we were discussing vet bills in mixed company. We never told our husbands where the money came from. LOL.
My house is small and I just couldn't stand the smell of the litter box. I didn't want her to get injured again out here just by being outside. I felt like if someone was mean to her once, they'd do it again. She was very, very sweet. So, Little Black Kitty was "donated" to an ultra-posh kennel and boarding house a mile from here. They say she earns her keep by keeping mice and snakes away. I don't think she really does that. She used to lie around watching Animal Planet all day when she was here but they say she does so I have to believe them. She has her own room with a kitty door so she can run in and out. She's quite the Fat Cat, now.
(The other reason I couldn't keep her was because of Clifford. When he comes to say, he's here awhile and God knows he's the jealous kind. My neighbor couldn't keep her either because she has 4 dogs. Glad it all worked out for LBK.)
Anyway, you're a good person for rescueing Popeye. I just told you my story because I've been sworn to secrecy around here. I feel like I've just gone to confession. Thanks!!! I feel better already.

"Cat Dignity" indeed. LOL! I'm sure cats would appreciate it more than me saying they are "aloof".

What I like about Scott's photography the most is the way he is able to photograph the cat's eyes without that demonic glow. I have a hard time with that on any animal.

What I like about Scott's photography the most is the way he is able to photograph the cat's eyes without that demonic glow. I have a hard time with that on any animal. That's probably just luck because I don't know what causes it. Probably using a flash. I try to avoid using flash unless it's just absolutely necessary. That was very cool of you to rescue that kitten, Tricia. I sympathize about the litterbox. We have a screened in pool and have a pet door between the house and pool area - where we keep the litter box. We get enough of a breeze to dissipate the odor. When we move them inside during pool parties though, whew.... You do make me wonder though how Clifford would react to a kitten Scott

Sammy is just maintaining cat dignity...but I can tell they both like Popeye. That's just one of the many things that fascinate me about cats: They are ultra-concerned about maintaining their dignity yet constantly put themselves into situations where they stand to lose it. Scott
