Hey people,
I was just curious to what the genre demographics are for this site, or just my fellow British users. I'm new here, by about thirty/forty minutes...so if I'm missing something, noobie mistake.

I was also curious to what you guys and girls think about mixing genres to create hybrids. Is it the best way to keep music alive and evolving, or is it a pointless endeavour? What's your opinion, I'd love to know

Kind regards,

Given that every musical genre in existence is already the result of mixing other genres, it would actually be quite difficult to imagine an artist who didn't mix genres.

Ask a person who's played some of my songs, or seen me performing them live, which genre they think my music is, and you will probably get a different answer from the next person you ask. Some people label my material as 'electro' but then others say it's not electro at all. Some say funk, some say punk. And plenty of other descriptions have come up too, including new wave, electropunk, synth-rock, post-punk, protest, etc.

In truth, all are right to some extent and it may depend on the song. But that's not to portray myself as something unusual because almost every artist mixes and mashes styles - it is inevitable and it is how music evolves.

Hi Alex,

Welcome to the JPF. We do have app. 4K UK members on our email list, but probably only a dozen frequent this message board. In general the boards favor songwriters who like to collaborate as most bands and active performers have less time to do the same, or do their co-writing directly with bandmates.

We have all types, and I hope you'll spend some time on the busier boards nearer the top in addition to here. I'd love to have more UK folks chatting and I encourage you to invite anyone who might like to meet a lot of helpful and friendly folks around here.

Glad to be one of the dirty dozen :-)

Welcome too JPF Alex. I'm all about fusion and try to blend as many styles as I can. But sometimes it's best to keep it simple.

Work for hire Acoustic/Electric studio quality guitar tracks. I will also produce and master any old/new work tapes up to demo standards. :-)

Welcome, Alex. I think most of the people here at JPF are into country music. I haven't any proof of that, but it is the perception I've gotten from listening to their music and reading their lyrics. Its also what's mainstream in the US right now, so its not that surprising.

That said, not everyone is into country music, so, if you have other interests, you will find people here who share them. It might take a while though.

Mixing genres is a great idea! If you have any specific ideas, feel free to share. Music in general benefits from every attempt to create something new, successful or not. Again, it might take a little time to find what you are looking for, but this is a great site and I think your search will be worth it.

Again, welcome aboard!

Hi Alex
I'm from Lancashire but write mainly country.Although I 've a lyric at the moment I'm trying to get a collab for which isn't exactly of that genre.
I'm open to most anything really.
Quite a mixyure on this site,It's just having the time to look around the forums, and there's many of them
