Webcam in my dining room. It makes me look left-handed. Billy has died since we wrote this song. He was a treasure. THE HEART OF A HOBO (Kurt Fortmeyer/Billy Phillips)He gave up the way of the whiskey He had no more wanting for the wine He'd never rode the the rails But he'd heard all those tall tales And he'd walked down lonesome highways in his mind (singing) Silver and gold have I none And yes Jesus loves me this I know He'd let the darkness go he was following the sun God gave him the heart of a hobo He offered solace to those who'd suffered sorrow Lent a hand to those whose lives had jumped the track Like the shirt that he was wearing His bread was made for sharing He said that was just his way of giving back (and he'd sing) Silver and gold have I none And yes Jesus loves me this I know He'd let the darkness go he was following the sun God gave him the heart of a hobo He talked about his failure and his falling A homeless man and an organ donor card How someone he never knew helped him make it through And how he came to have that change of heart (and he'd sing) Silver and gold have I none And yes Jesus loves me this I know He'd let the darkness go he was following the sun God gave him the heart of a hobo He'd let the darkness go he was following the sun God gave him the heart of a hobo

Hey Kurt,
Although you do perform this for the camera I don't think anyone would object you posting it in the MP3 section so that you get a few more vies as this is quite a quite forum. There's not much in terms of the video to comment on as it's a simple yet effect form of communication through music.
I like the song. Nice feel and well delivered.

Kurt,
I like it! This phrase especially - lives had jumped the track
A story about a good guy. Nice.

A story about a good guy. Nice. I used that line thinking of a double meaning...

Hi, Kurt, Wow, I didn't know you wrote anything with Billy. He was a good guy, wasn't he? I'm still helping carry on his legacy at the church up in Madison. We do the Monday morning meeting to feed the homeless. If you'd like to come out some Monday, get in touch with Marceia, she's the person in charge of the songwriters. I fill in whenever one of the regular hosts can't make it, so I do it pretty regularly. I'm also committed to doing the fifth Mondays...there are only two more this year...October and December. Good song, I don't think I've ever heard you do a bad one. Well, there is that one song about that dog...lol This one sounds a little different for you. It's got a different feel to it than most of the songs I've heard you do. But that's not a bad thing. Thanks for sharing this.
Come see CowboySlim when he's in your town, and support your LOCAL songwriter!

Five posts disappeared! I was coming back to comment on comments that were here yesterday, but now they are gone. What's up with that?

Kurt, your voice reminds me of a meld of Kristoferson (SP?) and lead singer of The Eagles. Mighty fine melody and strumming. One small suggestion, emphasize the "Bo" more. If you ain't just "Sellin' it" you'd hate me crapola.
BTW I also left a message @ YouTube which I shall do for everyone here, that I get to, who has a YouTube song.

I am totally confused by the sentence If you ain't just "Sellin' it" you'd hate me crapola. I'm guessing it's supposed to mean something, but I can't figure out what it is.

By "Sellin' it" I mean, if you truly believe the religiousness of your song OR are you just, which is a fine idea, going for the money of suckin'-up to the prevailing mythology?
