Hi. Long time listener, first time caller. Having read a lot here and other & etc., I understand that placing songs is x% pipe dream and x% always non-remunerative now, so I'll take the oft-suggested stance of hopeful hobbyist.
As a novice, I'll be mostly questions, but there are a couple of threads I've been reading where I might throw in some ill-advised and unrequested BS.
I will also try to review the mp3 thread postings, but I'm a tough audience. I'm hooked in 10-30 seconds or I'm out, and I'm out more often than I'm in. For example, I read a current piece on the Atlantic website - Summer Music Preview: 29 New Albums to Check Out - not a one hit me - even the Willie Nelson cover on there left me cold.
In contrast, I heard a song in some movie recently that got me right away - an Alabama 3 cover of John Prine's Speed of the Sound of Loneliness. I also love the song Mmmbop, so there's no accounting for taste. I grew up on country music on the jukebox at my dad's VFW in the 1960's, but I like anything that hits me.
Here's my plan: I'm going to SongU and will get some initial evaluation with rough-cut demos. Positive feedback = cut better demos to pitch via their listings of calls. I also want to post a few things here for general impressions.
I don't see a 'meet up' section here on JPF nor threads to that effect, but I'll be in Nashville this summer. I've got a non-industry friend there and have visited a couple of times. I'll be going to the open-mic nights, etc., and if anyone wants to hang out that could be cool. On that note, I should state that I'm 51-years-old, so you may take that into consideration if you want to meet.
Also, I'll be on vacation, so I'll have nothing but free time. I'll add that I'm not a pushy grinder type trying to buttonhole anyone and cram 10 years of networking into a few weeks. I'm really a wallflower and a listener and a one-on-one conversationalist. I'll probably spend more time eating barbecue and pizza than listening to music.
For reviews of my songs: Having read the Harriet Schock thread, I should offer that direct - even harsh - critique, is ok, so please feel free in critiquing. You won't hurt my feelings.
For reviews of others: I'm a non-industry person, so please ignore anything that strikes you wrong.
Thanks.

Thanks. My first impulse was toward Lyric 1. I hope to be posting mostly in the mp3s.

I think most of thelyric writers start on 1 and 2. It's just that they're pretty slow right now.

Hi Alan,
Welcome!
For the "meet up" section, scroll to the bottom of the forum list. There are a bunch of Chapter Message Boards (including Nashville).

An awesome resource I never expected. I've already got places to go hang out. Thanks.
