Despite the woes of the music business, Paul Simon played here last night and the show sold out in 7 minutes at $100 plus per ticket. Definitely not crap! Wish I had been able to go.

Boomers need to recapture that greatness that was the late 50's 60's and 70's. They all will sell! Do Wop, Motown, Classic anything!!! Then, with acts like Simon, McCartney, Elton, Joel, Wonder!? Wow! Will bring in all ages too! Mega sell outs! Stadiums! Big arenas! Paying more than 100 bucks too! Sir Paul got 200 and up! Memories seen and heard live is priceless for many.

Will the teens and 20 something's now be doing that when in their 50's and 60's, for their stars of today? Time will tell. Lady Gaga in her late 60's? Would it play like Left handed bass player Paul, with Beatle clips being shown in the big screen as real visual reminders!? Going to be tough to capture that kind of overwhelming excitement for a lot of kids today,,,,it wold seem. How much will kids stay with their idols, since they grow up and listen to the actual music involved? Will they know the difference? Maybe not. Maybe so. ?? Again,,,time will tell. I don;t know for sure. I can only guess, based on how artist affected the world,,,or not, other than making a few bucks.

Who now will even get the excitement form older fans about Aerosmith? Who is as good as them,,,since a couple of decades even? Tyler?! He knocks the young acts right off the stage at HIS advanced age!!!! I feel the cream of the crop had a great and rare musical era to use their true talents and creativity. The var was raised very high when he had to compete with Joel and Elton, and Queen and Wonder, etc!!!! Oh my,,,,acts HAD to be great just to warm up for all those greats!

Who warms up Lady Gaga?! I like her though, so don't get me wrong. Better than Madonna in my opinion. All around. Piano, voice, creative voices too!

I dunno - I find that the kids today like more of "our" music than we like of theirs smile

Sadly, this is probably because "our" music is not their parent's music but their grandparent's music. grin

Yeah, I think the "new speak" in music has killed the intrest and relevance that gentlemen like Simon and many other classic artists could bring to the table.

I agree a lot with Big Jim. Absolutely no need to shoot the messenger. Voices like BJ's, and the viewpoints he advocates are way too under-represented in the public, IMO.

I think much put out now is too slick, targeted too narrow to specific consumers, overproduced, and lyrics are too conservative and tame.

We need more soul, more improvising, more content and more cowbell :-)

I think we all hold onto the musical influences of or formidable years of adolescence. It's when we were so wide eyed and our hormones were raging, our brains hungry for adventure and those songs are like a time capsule somehow. I know when certain songs come on the box certain memories of where and when and maybe who I was with come rushing in.
Since there are still so many of our generation around our demographic maintains success for these artists. Will the kids of today be going out and paying $100. to see Lady Gaga in thirty years? Probably. What I saw last nigh on the Dick Clark New Years Eve show from her was just short of a circus side show, in my opinion. But alas....I'll be gone by then so......

Of course, a lot of people thought (and maybe still think) that Alice Cooper was just short of a circus side show. That is who was big on the pop charts (among others) when I was in high school.

"Every Generation throws a Hero up the Pop Charts"...(Paul Simon, "Boy in the Bubble")

Which sorta says it all... & Yeah, Ga-Ga's pretty damn Good, too...the kids'll have Their Heros...just like We Did. (& they've sure got More to Choose-From...)
