Hi hi
Sorry I haven't been around or near the computer lately due to health problems, just couldn't sit up for a week straight until now. Wanted to share this pretty song my friend Dennis & I wrote, performed and recorded. It was for a film about a high school reunion with a sadder kind of plot. Very simple very effective..
Funny note, we were stuck on the line "Everything I learned when I look back"
Then my little Jack Russel Terrier who's name is "Jack" lol how original, came running into the studio wagging his tail and jumping all over us. Seconds later I thought of the line - "don't mean Jack!" LOL
Hope you all are well & happy!
Slipaway Caro/Delgaudio ©2005
Sitting inside looking outside This is where it all began without a plan The school seemed bigger and time was longer Everything I learned when I look back Don't mean jack
The friends I met then made me the man I am today If I don't see them their there when I need them Somethings never change
Years roll by wheels keep turning All those colors fade to gray I don't want to let the memories slip away, slip away
Raising glasses to touchdown passes All the games we watch today, we used to play We still got curfews and working man blues Don't try to hard to act your age, it can wait
Reminiscing together laughing, turn the page What was with those hairdo's and that music we got into Thank God some things change Years go by wheels keep turning All those colors fade to gray I don't want to let the memories slip away, slip away
(Penny Whistle Solo)
Years go by wheels keep turning All those colors fade to gray I don't want to let the memories slip away, slip away
All instruments & vocals Dennis & Mike

Hi Mike, I'm so sorry you haven't felt like sitting up. When I hear something like that I get a quick reality check, it certainly does put things in perspective. Almost instantly I realize what is and always has been important. I don’t know how I can forget that even for a minute, but I do it all the time. I love it when you post your songs! I bet you've got a lot more I haven't heard, hint, hint. In all fairness it seems like you should have listed Jack as a writer too, lol. I like songs about reminiscing (guess it comes with age) so I really like this. Everything you say is true. Guys, at least married guys, do still have curfews though I've never thought of it in those words. So was this movie in a film? You’ve probably had a lot of movies in films! Take care of yourself Mike. Dottie

I wish you could flip your health status Mike. I hate to hear you being down, but your music brings me up - so don't stop posting.
This verse touched me and was poisgnant for me: "We still got curfews and working man blues Don't try to hard to act your age, it can wait"

A real aural pleasure. A fine recording, fine playing and terrific singing. A real melodic soft-rock treat. Some electrics would have been a nice addition to the second verse and thereafter, but even with just the acoustics its a killer guitar tune. The lyrics are well-written except it has to be "Thank God some things change" and not "Thank God something's change." Kudos!

Hi thanks guys, yeah sorry for this mis-spell I was rushing. Dottie, yeah it's just that when I sit up I get the tips, dizzy,spin... At the end of my post last night I fell off of my chair. My safe zone as been leaning back or laying down, but now I'm getting the spins there as well. Sometimes I get a surge or zap in the back of my head/neck like the feeling of when you hit your head. Electricity like, zap!!! I know in my heart (as I have for the last six years) my spine has got something to do with the whole problem. Just cant hold my own weight anymore. Used to be hard work bending lifting, brought on bad attacks or episodes. Then walking any long distance did it, then walking at all, then standing, then sitting up... Now? Spinning right now gotta go, thanks MIke

Hey Mike....
I take my little dog very seriously...if she doesn't like anything I write she simply sits and barks at the monitors...if she loves it she rolls on her back like she just ate steak for the first time....Of the two she liked I got one cut the other one might be a bridesmaid but one outta two ain't that bad...lol. Great tune.

Nice spin on those changes, Mike's & Dennis :-) Comes across as a contemporary country song to me.
You should try to pitch it in Nashville. I could hear this for artists leaning up to Keith Urban or Zac Brown Band.
Either way it's a really enjoyable song, and a very effective mix. Solid write, awesome guitars, and the singer sounds great!

Mike,
What an amazing song, love the melody on this! I am always sending you healing thoughts, if all of the wishes that JPF members hold for you could heal you, you would be well right away, but know they keep coming your way...

Gotta love a penny whistle solo. I'm a little confused by the first line. To me, it seems like the singer is looking inside (introspection) rather than outside. I like the melody and groove.

Mike, this was one of the best songs I've heard here at JPF, I haven't been around too long. The melody, lyrics, music, vocals, and arrangement were all very good. The only small nit-pic grammar-wise might be the line where you wrote "somthing's changed" maybe should read "some things changed" - but maybe you were doing that on purpose to give that a "spin" rather than remaining literal to the meaning. I like the "whistle solo" for a commercial TV or move soundtrack, but would rather hear a more conventional solo there as I think a strong instumental solo there would be an asset to the song. This upbeat song by the way with its catchy melody would make a good music theme for a TV show by the way-you might want to pitch it that direction. Nice job, congrats! steady-eddie.

You are really a tremendous songwriter and I absolutely loved everything about this song. The sound, the feel, the lyrics, the emotional content, the spot-on moments where you so succinctly nail a memory that is common to many of us. I'm just really, really impressed. I liked this song better with each additional listen.
I can't remember a song where it's been so hard for me to pick a favorite line or two but the following is a narrow winner:
Raising glasses to touchdown passes All the games we watch today, we used to play We still got curfews and working man blues Don't try to hard to act your age, it can wait
Just really awesome writing here and the final line is, for me, a real knockout.
I was really inspired by this song. In my opinion, it's the reason we do what we do; to try and share common experiences in an uncommon and unique way. Two thumbs way, way, way up.

Hello Mike, I'm new here and it looks to me that you may have a pro level studio. COOL! Hopefuly without stepping on toes here I'll just say listen to the first L in the first "looking out side" and if you hear it fine then you may hear the same thing in more areas of the song, if not never mind... :)it's a bit hot for me as well, I jumped! lol! I would expect the same from you...
I do like the song! sweet!
Peace!

the sad part about this song is that it's so true...life has a way of slippin' away...the further you get from the school days the more you feel it...the melody is very strong on this one..i hear it playin' in my head still after the listen...great sign right! gotta call you soon and catch up with my brother from another mother...peace... moker

Hey Mike...
Just for me after the line..."Thank God some things change" I wanted to hear the Prime Rib burning on the grill...bring it full gate for the next 3 lines and back -off for the Penny Whistle and then just kick it hard and the fade... Just the way I heard it Mike...It's all good.

Hi Mike,
Nice arrangement, and I love the L-R panned dual acoustic guitars, they sound great. I love dadgad tuning, all those great half barred chords, with open top strings!
Were you guys listening to Nick Drake at the time? You might enjoy "Pink Moon" which is just him and guitar and various open tunings. He died soon thereafter, but got this masterpiece done. Your song here reminds me a little of "Place To Be" from that album.
How about a real penny whistle or recorder solo with a tad vibrato?
Beautiful work, Mike C.

What's not to love? Great production/arrangement and the vocal is feckin cool. Love the acoustic that's driving the track it gives so much energy to the track.
It reminds of the type of tune Counting Crows used to write. Totally top class track.
Hope you're feeling a bit better Mike my thoughts are with you.

Hey Sub , So sorry to hear your health issues continue to plague you. I've always admired your fortitude, and appreciate this song all the more, considering what it must have cost you to pull it all together. Circumstances aside, I really enjoyed this one. Who can resist the pull of nostalgia? Loved the way you have it laid out, enjoyed all the internal rhymes, and how you sang it so, well, leisurely I guess, if that makes any sense. As an aside, I don't know whether or not you partake of Facebook...but for me it has become a major Stroll Down Memory Lane. Rediscovering people from Back In The Day...seeing how their lives have progressed in spite of us...it's all very bittersweet. I think you've captured that feeling very well in the song. Thanks for sharing Mike, and hang in there. Beth

Hey Mike,
I noticed in the lyric above you typed "their there" instead of "they're there" in case you want to fix it. Sings the same of course.
Nice work my friend,
