Hey all(: I'm Yanii. Never been on this thread topic, but I figured this would be the right place to ask. I'm registered on OurStage, and they automatically start to put together your EPK and whatnot. My issue is the artist bio. With those, do musicians typically write their own, or is it better to collaborate with an outside source to piece it together? And what information should really go into it? I know one page is the typical length of these. If anyone could help me out on this, that'd be super(:
Much thanks in advance, ~~Yanii M.

Yanii,
Try to figure out 3 interesting facts about yourself and then go out and read the bios of a couple dozen artists and see how they weave (if they're good) interesting facts into their bio. If you can't find any good examples, then post a paragraph with your interesting facts included. If you have no interesting things in your entire life to talk about, let me know and we'll try to find something okay? Bios should be short unless you have had a really interesting career already. So find some interesting or funny facts, a few accurate historical things on top of it and put them into a paragraph. Make people curious who Yanii is and you could start with you have 2 "i"s in your name! = )

Start with something current and exciting to draw people in. Don't make it a chronological life history.
"Yanii is brand new to Ourstage and has just recorded her first album due for release in May. Her fans say she sounds like _____ "
"Yanii will be appearing with her band____ at the Harrisburg _____ in the fall of 2012 and is planning a tour of the Eastern Seaboard in late 2012."
"Yanii was born in Pennsylvania only ___ years ago and has been immersed in music since she was 5 years old. She is classically trained and plays a mean piano/guitar/sousaphone, while singing with the voice of a angel"
